    In Real Scenario, Type 055 would Launch YJ-18 first then YJ-21. So both will arrive in the same time from space (YJ-21) & sea level (YJ-18). YJ-21 also have Maneuvarable warhead, not conventional like potrayed in this simulation 🇨🇳

    The YJ21 is being largely underestimated in the video. According to the V2 in the WWⅡ,V2 re-enter atmosphere speed was 1200 m/s while the speed of hitting the ground was 600 ms/s. The YJ21 has a re-enter atmosphere speed of 10-12 mach and a much more advanced design than V2, it can reach 5-6 mach easily when it hit the target. The momentum is already enough to destory a ship without considering its warhead's penatration blast.

      YJ-21 reportedly has a side optical window for an infrared imaging sensor, combined with its active/passive radar seeker. To cool down the infrared seeker they also developed a special air cooling system which uses high pressure airflow. So when YJ-21 is diving and also decelerating at terminal phase, it will fly a wiring orbit which allows the side infrared imaging sensor to assist or even drive the homing process towards the target. So normal electromagnetic interference won't be effective.

      @timmyhoward6638 Since it is impossible to catch up with hypersonic missiles, it can only attack at preset points. This requires the ability to calculate the precise trajectory of the attacking missile in advance. This is how sm6 and sm2 intercept ballistic missiles. You have to ambush on the opponent's trajectory in advance. You only have one time chance. However, parabolic ballistics are a technology of the 1960s, new hypersonic missiles such as DF17 or YJ21. They use maneuverable ballistics or even unpredictable ballistics, such as Qian Xuesen's water-drifting ballistics. This means that there is currently no means, or even theory, to intercept such missiles.

    That's really really sweet, I've been waiting for the 055 for so long.
    I just got 2 points to make:
    1) I think it would be more accurate to also model the HHQ16 which is a medium range SAM. I don't think a 055 would carry so many long range HHQ9B's, it would be more of a mix between the 2. Also it is said the HHQ16 can be quad packed in the large VLS cells of the 055 like ESSMs.
    2. The Y-18 cruises in subsonic speeds in sea skimming mode and only in the terminal phase it uses a booster to accelarate to about 2-3 mach. Here it looked like it kinda followed a ballistic trajectory and was supersonic the whole time which is inaccurate.

    • @hamstermomoco
      @hamstermomoco Год назад +2

      No, HHQ16 missile will not appear in the VLS of 055 for two reasons,
      1. 055 class destroyer is usually the command core of the entire fleet, it will be located in the center of the air defense network, medium range air defense missiles can not provide effective defense for the entire fleet;
      2. HHQ16 is a semi-active missile, which requires a specific illuminating radar, and this illuminating radar has only been observed on 054A frigates. Even the 052D, which is smaller than the 055, does not have such illuminating radar. Due to the limited number of illumination channels, the number of targets HHQ16 can attack at the same time is also very limited, which is a very big weakness for the 055's ability to resist saturation attack.
      And the evidence is that so far we have never seen the 052D or 055 launch HHQ16 in any of the exercises, quite the contrary, we can only see the more expensive HHQ9 missile launch practice. This is very illogical, if you are more heavily equipped with cheap missiles, you will not practice only with expensive missiles.

    • @hamstermomoco
      @hamstermomoco Год назад

      And as for the second point, you got it wrong yourself. The "supersonic ballistic missile" you see is not the YJ18 you think it is, but the latest anti-ship ballistic missile YJ-21, which is supersonic throughout and is in fact hypersonic. The real YJ-18s only started to show up from 18:08

      China's most latest ASBMs are believed to include daylight/infrared imaging seeker to help the radar seeker, which renders most electronic counter measures useless. As reported their R&D team successfully developed innovative cooling solution to cool down the optical window under super high temperature incurred by the missile's super high flying speed. Aside from supporting both hot and cold launch, a big benefit of CCL is it avoids vent overheating when launching in rapid succession. On Mk-41 there has to be a cooling delay between launching from two cells sharing the same vent, which places a upper limit on firing rate, this limit does not exist with Chinese CCL cells giving it a much faster rate of launch.

      Both of those trajectories would not be different. After completing its last reentry, both of those trajectories are in terminal free fall. The YJ-21s are shot down in the terminal phase. It only makes mid-course interception hard, which is irrelevant for terminal defense.
      In fact, using boost glide bleeds off far more energy, so terminal interception is easier. Gliding increases time under drag, leading to a much lower final velocity, making it easy to pick off with high-energy ESSM interceptors.

      3 YJ21 use Sanger trajectory. not first push then glide that way. For improve the terminal penetration capability, the warhead have power source that could make the warhead at Mach10 in the end. YJ21 that number 2 means two-stage boostery.
      4 To US military. sm6 maybe have the chance to counter YJ21 but the interception success rate is far lower than pac3-er. but not for US Navy.
      5 My personal view is that the computer software and interception control rate of existing air defense system not enough to deal with hypersonic missiles. They all need to upgrade
      6 Till today. The United States does not have any hypersonic missiles that can be used in actual combat. or enter service . The fastest hypersonic missile project is lrhw from the US Army. The CPS program of the US Navy is waiting for the modification of DDG1000 class destroyers and Virginia class nuclear submarines. @@LyuChen94 The software certainly needs to improve because success rate of interception is far too low to win naval engagement, that is certain. My only issue is that the idea of Hypersonic weapons is the simple issue of drag.
      To be clear, I don't believe SM-6 is effective against Hypersonic glide-style weapons because hypersonics have such high total kinetic energy during the boost-glide phase. The SM-6 would need a much higher delta-v and likely, more mass. But I don't see how hypersonic glide weapons even equal the interception difficulty of hyperbolic, free fall ballistic missiles. Assuming Hypersonic aren't as difficult as ballistic missiles, ESSM should be able to intercept.
      As the altitude of the glider decreases, the drag force increases exponentially, and as the missile maneuvers more, it's drag increases. Even if you glide at the most energy conserving trajectory for you're altitude, you're drag is still higher. Hyperbolic ballistic missiles are typically impacting the target at mach 2-3 due to drag. If a Hypersonic weapon is down to Mach 1-2 at terminal phase, I would bet on ESSM.
      I think the Hypersonic have a range that they can't be intercepted because they have a lower flight time that allows a nice, low and fast terminal phase.
      If a missile that has a terminal phase rocket motor that accelerates the missile as it gets closer, I could see that being hard to defeat, but a simple free fall HGV style weapon is little better than normal missiles in the terminal phase.

They are more like aircraft, They can choose to use a tricky angle. And execute the strike with great speed.
      Resistance is need to solve at the stage of weapon model research. When the weapon has been actually developed, resistance will no longer be a problem.
      Both hypesonic missile has One common characteristic is that lift can be used. To some extent. Is also using resistance. It's just that the way of using the lift of the biconical missile is relatively simple, I can tell you that the terminal speed of all type of hypersonic missiles can be maintained above Mach 5. HGV's terminal rocket booster can be added as needed like YJ21. I think maybe DF17 has one. ARRW doesn't have. I'm sure YJ21's terminal speed is Mach10. the PLA has released the information. the middle phase speed is Mach 6. So I don't think the US Navy has the ability to intercept hypersonic missiles now. Not only the software needs to be upgraded. even hardware change a new one and also Interceptor's warhead needs to be change to deairectional blasting warhead with direct force control technology. In the existing equipment of the United States. I think only Pac3-er missile maybe have the chance to intercept the Biconical missile just because the altitude is higher than HCM and HGV. pac3-er is a fast missile with direct force control system, the range of pac3 is not enough. Exactly... The mod uses ballistic trajectory which is so much easier to shoot down

    • @TeoDP7
      @TeoDP7 Год назад +12

      China touts the DF-17 and other of it’s missiles as “highly maneuverable” and being “unable to shoot down.” The missile functions quite similarly to a ballistic missile, where it is boosted into the atmosphere, and then comes down on a target, albeit more maneuverable. However, there are some issues with this. When coming down from atmosphere, it must slow down to avoid burning up. Suddenly, the super-fast projectile is traveling much slower, and is much easier to intercept.
      Another issue brought up is launch. Since the missile goes so fast, it requires a huge engine. What do big engines produce? A LOT of heat. Any launches would quickly be detected by satellites and sensors. In addition, the claim of “plasma stealth” is complete propaganda rubbish. Modern radar easily will see the missile. Plasma sheathing is primarily reflective, meaning that it will actually BLOCK communications and control to the missile, leaving it unguided. We saw the same thing happen when the space shuttle returned to earth and experienced a communication blackout. If Infrared sensors were used on front of the missile, they would simply melt due to the high temperatures from the speed. No signal or communication, no control for the missile. Not so maneuverable anymore. While at higher altitudes the missile can be cooled due to the lower temperatures and thinner atmosphere, when the missile has to “go in” to actually hit the carrier or boat, it won't be able to maneuver due to extreme temperatures.
      Lastly, I’d like to discuss defensive measures against such missiles. The US Navy Arleigh Burke Destroyers as well as Ticonderoga Cruisers are built around aegis fleet defense.
      These boats utilize the AN/SPY-1 Radar for guiding missiles for intercepting missiles and ballistic missiles. The Aegis’s SPY-1D(v) radar “can detect golf ball-sized targets at ranges in excess of 165 km.”
      This statement was made in context with SPY-1D(v)’s ability to detect mortar rounds & artillery shells.
      Golf ball = 0.0025 m^2. For a direct comparison if you scale SPY-1D’s range to 0.4 m^2 target, then it corresponds to 587 km - that’s 2.3 times the range of S-400 (91N6E).
      Simply said, the SPY-1 will be detecting the DF-17 or other hypersonic missile from several hundred if not thousand kilometers away. In a 2014 test, USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) with Aegis Baseline 9 engaged an exo-atmospheric ballistic missile with SM-3 Block IB while engaging 2 low-altitude cruise missiles near-simultaneously. Just one of many times when Aegis demonstrated the extent of diverse targets it can handle simultaneously. The SM-6 Dual I has a range between 370-460 km and is capable of engaging almost any endo-atmospheric target from sea-skimming cruise missiles, tactical aircraft to maneuverable ballistic missiles in their terminal stage. Another advantage of Aegis is the Cooperative Engagement capability (NIFC-CA). SM-6’s two-way datalink allows E-2D or F-35 to provide Over the Horizon targeting capability. The SM-6 have engaged OTH cruise missiles solely relying on targeting data from E-2D and F-35. It’s one thing to share data between airborne and ground radars but a whole lot different to have airborne platforms taking over Targeting.
      Simply put, all the Chinese have is a slightly more agile and controllable ballistic missile. It is nothing new. The defenses that the missile is going up against, as well as all the factors against the missile really prevent it from being the supposed “game changer” that it is. These missiles will not force the US to leave the South China sea. If anything, we are seeing a continued buildup of American forces. If the PLAN does try something foolish, it is assured that the U.S. response will be quite forceful. B-52's, B-2's, B-1's, and whole carrier wings will roll over the missiles China lobs at our carriers.
      Beware the carrier group…

    You might be able to detect the hypersonic missiles launch (from space) - but when they are at their fastest speed the plasma shield formed on the nose of the missile from the sheer speed of them entering the atmosphere will absorb radio waves, therefore the ships under attack will not be able to track them by RADAR, ships with a sideview of the action might have a chance but I don't know if SM-6s can be tracked by another asset and when they get below 20,000 feetish the secondary track will be lost anyway due to the curvature of the earth. In essence there is no chance - none - of intercepting these missiles with other missiles. On the other hand this electromagnetic disturbance phenomenon also makes it immensely difficult to aim hypersonic ballistic missiles accurately.

    The YJ-21 is a hypersonic missile that can change its trajectory mid-flight and anchieve plasma stealth upon entry into the atmosphere, making it literally impossible to intercept in the final stage, which is when it basically becomes a 7 mach stealth missile like the NSM with a twice as big warhead.

  • @chrisdoulou8149
    @chrisdoulou8149 Год назад +7

    The Ticos would have died horribly if this was a real world situation for a few reasons.
    Firstly the YJ-21, being a hypersonic AShBM is pretty much immune to engagement unless it’s in its terminal dive, and with the target location known it wouldn’t begin a shallow dive at 50 miles out, but dive almost vertically onto the Ticos at such a stupid entry speed (Mach 5-10) that the SM-6 would have literally 20-30 seconds to intercept considering the max engagement altitude is 32km-35km and those warheads are coming down at conservatively, 5000km/h.
    Throw in a manoeuvring warhead and you complicate that yet again.
    Now considering the Chinese commander isn’t a certifiable potato he’s going to also calculate the flight time to ensure the missiles do a TOT attack with the YJ-18’s doing their pop up and dive (something not modelled in the simulation) at the same time as the YJ-21 hitting their terminal dive. You’d also not fire the YJ-18 at max range, leaving it 50km short, you’d do this so the lead missiles can take a slightly less direct route, meaning that the entire strike package crosses the radar horizon at the same time, the whole point of the attack being to completely overwhelm the AEGIS system, not allowing it to engage the strike in dribs and drabs.
    You’re now engaging a couple of hundred missiles at the same time, at a range of altitudes and flight profiles, with 30s-1m to shoot down the entire package.
    We can ignore the Phalanx CIWS as it’s only rated to intercept missiles at sub mach 2 and only has a 2km engagement range. It’s now down to the Tico’s chaff and Nulka decoys to defeat the leakers and that’s not enough.

The Type 055 Chinese Destroyer might look scary, but the Arleigh Burke class destroyers and the Ticonderoga-class cruisers are not really good for ballaistic and guided and cruise missile defense and Iam not even joking just look in the internet about it. The real missile destroyer are the British Type 45 Destroyers (And The French, Italian Destroyers) with the Aster 15 and 30 highly manoeuvrable missiles. That missiles can pull a huge amount of G force to intercept incoming supersonic missiles and it will being upgraded to intercept HYPERSONIC missiles and BALLISTIC MISSILES with a hit rate of 90%+ sooo yes... + on top of that the Type 45 Destroyers will being upgraded to use the SEA CEPTOR missiles(Instead of the Aster 15 to allow more space for Aster 30) and a new anti-ship missile. It is named Naval Strike Missile(RGM-184) it is basically a STEALTH Anti ship cruise missile. These upgrades however will take place around 2026 or later.
