Apparently part of 2nd phase princes is gone, and maybe more parts of the run I didn't notice? Twitch vod has them though, so if you wanna see parts of the video that are missing from the youtube vod visit: www.twitch.tv/distortion2/v/65933147 Could try re-uploading the video as well I suppose
At 37:25 for all you People asking He spams the Straight Sword like that to heal himself. in the time I said you can see that eorking cuz his lloyds sword ring activates. Also he Quits out doors because its a IGT Run that means he skips the door opening Animation without taking the time for it.
I have a silly question. Why did speedrunners start pausing when there's a loading screen or when they quit the session? I can't remember if people used to do it on previous games, but I find it weird. It feels kind of cheating time specially the quitting while opening a door.
+Aruã Torres Currently Dark Soul 3 runs are gauged by in-game time (not real time). So these tricks when opening doors/death falling allow you to save in game time vs. waiting for long door animations (and other things).
Excellent, excellent run. I'd love to know how you do that Irithyll Dungeon skip at 33:36 because every time I try to quit it just greys out and I die. Any help regarding timing would be appreciated.
+Elias Bloch Only the Spook spell like in the vid. Tried it with the cat ring and that didn't help either. Are you able to perform the skip? How do you do it?
I don't like that you stop the timer when you save, and quit... If you're using it as an exploit the timer should keep going... Take a hint from most other speed runners out there. Definitely a mild annoyance, and adds some illegitimacy to your run I would say.
+fifzeppelin I just watched another speed run in the community, and it seems that is the case. The bulk of other games I've seen speed run do not grant you free time for being out of game... I think the primary reason being that someone could complete half of it save, and quit then complete the WR 2 years later if it's based entirely on in game time. But who am I to comment on the way the speed running community of dark souls (which I am new to) handles their runs. Impressive run regardless.
+Calvin Carter using in game time controls for loading times and framerate issues due to the way dark souls timer works (it literally counts frames outside of loading screens), otherwise better hardware gives an advantage.
+fiddy I was thinking dark souls was similar to other games. Like Cosmos incredible run on Ocarina of time any %. It seems as though if you are using the save, and quit method as an exploit... You should certainly not be able to bypass gaining time as well.. Somewhat hard to take the run serious for me.
So is the standard for DS runs to stop the timer if you quit and reload? Or would they keep the timer going 100% after it starts? Looks like it can greatly affect time, and actual time to complete the run from the first instance of player movement would include the time from reloading. I don't know jack shite about what speedrunning time standards are for Dark Souls.
It's because it's a IGT speedrun. In game timer. So when you quit it stops counting because your game doesn't count when you are not in it. It is also there to help people that don't have as fast of PCs. So it's also automatic.
+Samus001 It's supposed to heal 2hp overtime in a couple of seconds but in this case everytime he equips and unequips it he gets his health back way faster.
I feel like these shouldn't count, with the constant stopping of the timer. I realize most speeed runs have a quick save/quick load process to speed it up. but if you have to stop the timer to log out and back in, it shouldn't be valid...
I dont mean to sound mean and if Im wrong just ignore this but shouldnt you be counting the time the entire time the game is running (eg: when you switch to the home menu)? Just curious because in all the speedruns I have watched, the clock dont stop until the very end of the game. If you are just doing this for fun and all go right ahead and play how you are but I do believe that if you wanted to try for like a world record status you wouldnt be allowed to stop the clock between exiting the game and restarting it so that you can open doors "quicker." Like I said at the start just ignore this if I am wrong because I unfortuneatly dont know all
+Melacsirrah There's an in-game timer. Plus the clock is stopped because obviously not everyone can load the game at the same speed so it compensates for everyone else's load times etc. Which is why in-game timer is used also.
+Melacsirrah real time is not a good way to time this speedrun because the the loading times can differ dramatically between 2 players. Therefore loading times should not be accounted for so that a person with a high end PC does not have an unfair advantage over another player running this game. The only other viable method of timing is therefore the in game clock, the in game clock only accounts for actual play time without the loading and without quitout. That the quitout time is not accounted for is not a detriment to the timing as much as loading time difference is. Also: quitout time being not accounted for does not change the strategy for this speedrun. Quitouts are done whether or not you count the time of the quitout because it is faster regardless. This of course doesn't mean that this method of timing is perfect but it is fairer than real time and it is the method the community agreed upon. Timing, especially in past souls games has always been a complex topic of discussion and there are many things that make certain aspects of timing good or bad.
It's like a passive of the sword where it gives like 2hp in I dont know how many ticks. And it resets everytime he reequips the sword so he gets more life regen.
Guys I have a question about bleed. Aside from the dragonslayer armor, are there any other bosses who are completely immune to bleed? Also any hard enemies that are immune to it as well? I wanna make a PvE bleed build, and I wanna know if it is worth the trouble.
+Jim Canterak Curserotted Great Wood is immune, as is Vordt....but that's it! I reckon bleed is a viable strategy in PvE, invest a few points in "luck" so the bleed effect actually procs....
Bleed/Dex is extremely strong, especially in NG+ because bleed does percentile damage. Just DONT go bleed infusion. Get hollow with carthus curved sword, warden twinblades, or onikira and ubadachi, use carthus rouge on them and go hogwild with bleeds
i think DS3 is the first game ive ever seen speedrun where the timer is paused during loading screens. im interested to see how people run this at AGDQ since they do not stop the timer until game is done.
+Distortion2 I watch your videos to learn how to speedrun. My fastest is 2:33, nothing fantastic, but I'm getting better. I hit Soul of Cinder at 1:40 but he took me a long time... ahhhhhhhhh- Anyway, you're a cool guy. And whether you mean to make them or not, your videos are quite informative. So thanks man, I plan to watch your Twitch soon so expect a random subscriber. :)
Awesome speedrun... We may use different rules about couple of things. Using quit-game method to return all enemies non-hostile and avoiding like that almost every critical conflict... well, that's just my opinion. Also stopping timer every time saved many minutes and allowed skipping door openings and stuff.
+blaze Anri's Sword scales with luck, meaning it does more damage the higher your Luck stat is. Switch his weapon on and off while running doesn't really do anything.
The sword he is equipping and unequipping heals you for 2 HP every few seconds. It heals right when you equip it and if you spam equip it, it makes it heal every time he equips it. So he healing faster than just having it equipped.
Why does he push the timer back by half a second whenever he goes to the main menu? Also i feel like pausing the timer when you main menu to skip the cutscenes is a bit illegitimate.
That's why he labeled the video "IGT," which stands for In Game Time. Its a different category of speed run. It just counts the time it took him to beat the game while actually playing as opposed to the total time with load screens and other stuff.
A lot of the "meme runs" (specific weapon all bosses runs) on Distortion2's channel don't quit out for doors, if that's what you want. There are occasional quit outs for enemy repositioning, but otherwise the runs are closer to what you mean.
Princes..... that wasnt on the list..and then appear :D forgot about it or what??? and when did u write it on the list?? i cant understand...nice speedrun though
+5imp1e Anri's sword is a blessed weapon. On equip it gives like 2 hp for 45 seconds (Around that anyways). He spams it just to keep the buff at max time.
+kankuro6666 Anri's sword is blessed and restores HP. Normally it restores one point every four seconds, however swapping in and out resets that timer.
It makes sense since quit and reloads are necessary in speedruns and menu loading times can be different in every PC. IGT, that means in game time, was made to just calculate the gaming time so that speedrunners with worse PCs would have the same chances and possibilities to do great times like this one.
+makaachop To gain some in-game time. Opening a door takes 3 or 4 seconds. If you quit out right after opening the door, it will skip the animations once you go back. So it saves 3 or 4 seconds per door. Meaning that if there's... Let's say... 20 doors in the game to open, then you'll save 1 whole minute in the in-game timer at the end.
Bosses:
1:12 - Iudex
6:20 - Vordt
17:32 - Abyss Watchers
27:26 - Deacons
35:00 - Yhorm
37:25 - Dancer
41:46 - Pontiff
46:15 - Aldritch
48:52 - Dragonslayer Armour
53:52 - Princes
57:20 - Soul of Cinder
You missed two bosses dude :-)
You missed two bosses dude :-)
+Mr Sparkaru he didn't fight them all. Technically he missed 8.
+MTG cardlook He meant Wolnir & Crystal Sage...

+Distortion2 You should re-upload the WR, yes, we demand an impeccable VOD and stuff CuteDog
that jump to your death quit and save shit no longer works
fuck your shortcuts
I might also try a speed run of this with the DLC included
At 37:25 for all you People asking
He spams the Straight Sword like that to heal himself.
in the time I said you can see that eorking cuz his lloyds sword ring activates.
Also he Quits out doors because its a IGT Run that means he skips the door opening Animation without taking the time for it.
So this is the WR right now, yeah? That's awesome man, love your runs. Haven't seen one better than this. Cheers.
+Aruã Torres there are even games with both as a category fastest in ingame time and fastest in real time like Super Metroid
+Seppiro Interesting. I always thought speedruns were all about IRL time so I found it weird when I started watching DS3 speedruns.
+Aruã Torres Quitting out also resets mob positioning, which lets speed runners cheese out of getting hit by mobs.
You got a pastebin with the route? I saw you have it for all bosses but i want to get any% down first
It takes me an hour to defeat one boss by myself yet you beat the game in under an hour. Good job!
good run dude!! i loved it;))))
Excellent, excellent run.

+Calvin Carter But its an Any% and it says in the title it's IGT (in game time)
+Calvin Carter Nobody gives a fuck about out of game time for Dark Souls.
+fifzeppelin I just watched another speed run in the community, and it seems that is the case. The bulk of other games I've seen speed run do not grant you free time for being out of game... What's with the equipping and unequipping the sword in really fast succession?
+Chris Francis because he gets a hp regen, i think like 2hp every time he does it.
+Chris Francis yeah i didnt understand that one too
+Chris Francis He's restoring his hp, that's what that does
What's the point of un-equipping and re-equipping your sword?
Whats with the weapon equipping and unequipping its making me crazy
+Samus001 the anris sword heals 2 damage every time you equip it
Lol what kind of a strange effect is that
+Samus001 It's supposed to heal 2hp overtime in a couple of seconds but in this case everytime he equips and unequips it he gets his health back way faster.
In PS4 , you start with 00:09 seconds IGT , so it's almost imposible to do a WR if you're playing on console.
I feel like these shouldn't count, with the constant stopping of the timer. I realize most speeed runs have a quick save/quick load process to speed it up. but if you have to stop the timer to log out and back in, it shouldn't be valid...
It stops automatically so say you have a faster computer so it loads faster you don't get better times.
speed runners go by in game time anyways, the timer is just for convenience
what happened at 54:40? BTW awesome run
+Erick TG I was thinking the exact same thing
Looks liek a loss of about 10 to 15 seconds
Good job man!

Why swap shields for parrying pontiff? Does it have better frames or something
small shields have better windows for parrying.
What is the reason for some of the pauses? Some seem to be random or to put enemies in a position to his advantage?
+Nick McNair yup, reset mobs to starting positions when theyre chasing him / or hes using it to skip long animations like door openings
why does the timer keep going down by .3 seconds every time you quit and load?
Anri: "Horace, let's gank this mother!"
What was that thing he was doing in the menu with the sword?
It's like a passive of the sword where it gives like 2hp in I dont know how many ticks. And it resets everytime he reequips the sword so he gets more life regen.
Does boss damage that you deal increase/decrease with soul level?
+Genesis Angel Nice one, cheers mate
What did he use before Anri's?¿ also why didnt the crystal sage teleport?
+KadizKovers He used the Astora Straight Sword, infused with Raw.
Really nice sage and yhorm fights :) gj
does opening the menu and selecting that sword over and over make him move faster?
The T in Aldrich triggers the fuck outta me
^this
+AlexH089 What T?
+skysands2008 in the splits, he spells Aldrich as Aldritch
Life According to an Introspective Melancholic Isn't this how you pronounce it?
+skysands2008 it's spelt Aldrich. he misspelled it as Aldritch.
why equip and unequip the weapon repeatedly when running ?
+陈天明 to regenerate hp really fast
thanks for answer !
only for anris sword cmiiw
The first speedrun I seen, but what's with all the quitting inbetween?
why do you always quit the game and reload when you go through a door?
+deinemtuuer It resets enemy positions and skips the door opening animation.
+deinemtuuer Was wondering this too. Only thing I can think of is because it saves a couple seconds while the door opens since the timer stops

They'll use a different timeimg version.
He uses IGT (In-Game Time)
They can keep the timer in loading screens etc.
+Distortion2 I watch your videos to learn how to speedrun.
My fastest is 2:33, nothing fantastic, but I'm getting better.

It says IGT in the title, which means "in-game time".
Why did you pick up estus shards and lit bonfires?
46mn37 to 46mn57...? What happened ? :)
+That Crippled Fluffeh If you want to see the video without the skip see: www.twitch.tv/distortion2/v/65933147
Distortion2 Thanks :)
+That Crippled Fluffeh gtfo bitch
+That Crippled Fluffeh Yes but, the video at Twitch has no skips at all. So it counts. You would be right if both sources were like that.
No way!!! I haven't watched this video yet but this is insane even with Estoc spam (probably)
Pausing the timer between resets? Is that something that all runners do?
yes, the category counts in-game time, the timer on the right is not even necessary
Why do you equip/unequip a weapon when running?
When you equip the Anris sword it heals 2 damage.
Why did he quit game so many times? is it faster? I just dont see any diference or point
Can someone tell me why he exits to title screen? I'm an idiot.
can i ask why he switches his weapon off and on while running and why he skills "luck"? im new to the series and still need to git gud
Who else was here after that really good all boss run. So close man👌🏼.

How does he keep running even when he is in the menu without quiting out of the menu? Or am I being stupid? D:
+sakul971 Hold down B in menu. Eazy
Hold down B before opening the menu. And keep holding B.
dang, 4 minutes faster than the last one?
Ikr
why do you keep going back to main menu?
why the anris equip spam?
Why doesn't the Crystal Sage teleport after the first few hits
why dose his timer go slightly backwards when he quits the game?
i think its accounting for the small amount of time it counts going into the menu screen
This is really impressive and all, but are there any runs that don't restart the game 50 times?
+Lord Bravery doubt it, people go for even the smallest time saves like quitting out mid door opening
A lot of the "meme runs" (specific weapon all bosses runs) on Distortion2's channel don't quit out for doors, if that's what you want. There are occasional quit outs for enemy repositioning, but otherwise the runs are closer to what you mean.
Sub 1 hype!!! Oh wait... :(
Princes..... that wasnt on the list..and then appear :D forgot about it or what??? and when did u write it on the list?? i cant understand...nice speedrun though
ohh nevermind..i get it :)
I spend like 3 hours on one boss and this guy does it all in less than an hour. Fuck outta here, man.
Christopher Meyer I had to teleport two people in to kill the second boss.
i might have missed the explanation of this in the video, but why does he need the luck?
Why the cut at 54:42?
Stream fail
I'm doing a speed run too. 28 hours and counting....
I'm practicing as well... almost 3 hours in and the Twin Princes are giving me a hard time. I only want a sub 1-hour run and I'll be happy.
Dear sir, how is this an ALL boss run if you don't do the ancient wyvern, cursed great-wood, and nameless king?
Would a ng+ be faster?
Do you infuse Anri's with anything?
What's the "equip-unequip-repeat" all about?
Anri's Short Sword restores 2 HP per second while it's on. It triggers right away when you equip it, so each click is 2HP back.
Ooooh nice
I'm guessing this isn't current patch?
soo what's the point of spamming anri's sword like that ?
less time
+gibsongs23 oh okay
+Martijn Dewyn anris does more regen ticks if u unequipt and reequpit it. so he is basically healing himself
+Ad Venture Oooh thanks . neat trick !
Ad Venture wtf??? I didnt know that
I know u are not a ANY% run fan; but i'd like to see a sub 50 run or at least a couple of try on twitch!
can anyone tell me, why he starts the game new so often?
I'm glad to see no teleporting dogs ruined this run!
why is he quiting and continuing game again?
+Noor X its an exploit in the game that will reset the npcs and let you spawn in other areas just before you die
Also skips long animations like opening doors.
Where he went in 7 min i don't went in 2 Hours..... He is a God of Playing...
why do u keep equiping and unequiping your weapon
+5imp1e Anri's sword is a blessed weapon. On equip it gives like 2 hp for 45 seconds (Around that anyways). He spams it just to keep the buff at max time.
Pretty sure I saw him restarting more than actual gameplay.
the jump-die-reload move in profane capital was bs. up until that point it was awesome.
why does he keep swapping weapons while running?
+kankuro6666 Anri's sword is blessed and restores HP. Normally it restores one point every four seconds, however swapping in and out resets that timer.
am i the only one who thinks it makes no sense that you get to stop the clock for deliberate quit outs?
It makes sense since quit and reloads are necessary in speedruns and menu loading times can be different in every PC. IGT, that means in game time, was made to just calculate the gaming time so that speedrunners with worse PCs would have the same chances and possibilities to do great times like this one.
Why do you keep quitting out of the game?
+Morrison Blud skips door opening to save more time and he uses it for skipping parts of the area.
Why he always equip and took off the sword very fast?
To heal. Anri's SS gives hp.
Has anyone else realized that lots of speed runners are disturbingly stoic?
Why doesn't he two hand his sword during the battles where he doesn't need his shield?
***** Didn't think of the blood resin, good to know.
+NINJA BOT Gotta love Dark Souls 3 logic
It took me over 30 hours
To beat this game my first game. Wow this makes
The game look so short.
why dous he quit game and restart?
impressive
Why grab an ashen Estes and waste a second doing that?
why he quits and put his sword while running
Why do you need to kill Anri in the any% run?
+Dark Titan To get Anri's Sword, which seems to be a bit more useful than his previous run's weapon, the Astora Straight Sword.
Alright, I thought that's how it went but seemed almost unnecessary at a glance
I'm early ! let me make a joke.....infinite warfare
waw The skill
Why do he restart the game after opening some door ?
+makaachop for win some time u noob
+makaachop To gain some in-game time. Opening a door takes 3 or 4 seconds. If you quit out right after opening the door, it will skip the animations once you go back. So it saves 3 or 4 seconds per door. Meaning that if there's... Let's say... 20 doors in the game to open, then you'll save 1 whole minute in the in-game timer at the end.
Crazy.
why he quit the game when he opens a door?
What is Anris?
+Kory Graphic When he level up the arnirs' weapon
Zues is black smith now??? :))) well played , well played :)))
Idk, from my point of view you did 51:09 not 51:11
I can't do the falling glitch that he does in the donjons
Are you financially recouped for playing?
Well, this makes me look like a shit player lol
it makes everyone look like shit haha
Im so sick of how people cut out the most important parts, like at the ends, the final thoughts. like wtf?
how does he take no damage when he falls tho
He's got a spell called spook, bro.
So Cool !!!
