Thanks for posting this brilliant musical interlude of the genius of Eubie Blake and Alberta Hunter. They were stars that will never fade with the passage of time, because of their indelible contributions to music .
Wow. Eubie Blake in his late 90s still had a genuine spark and a graceful feel for the beautiful music he played and often composed. And hats off to Alberta for her touching reading.
Thanks for watching and your observation. Fortunately I bought one of the first video tape machines on the market, a Beta video tape recorder, and I recorded all the jazz and Ragtime I could find on TV.
I had the distinct pleasure to see both of these wonderful artists live before they passed on to that big stage in the sky. :) Memories of both of them.
I was at Alberta Hunter's birthday party for her 8?th birthday at the Cookery; Eubie Blake was there as her guest of honor. I will never forget that he ordered a steak and smoked all night! On one of her album jackets she talks about Eubie Blake, quoting him as having answered the question put to him by a reporter, "To what do you attribute your advanced age?" to which he responded, "I really don't know, but I will tell you this; if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken much better care of myself!"
Wow !! I actually viewed this during the original broadcast... love these wonderful talented treasured artists. Great footsteps for some talented people to fill!!
What a lovely posting! That famous comment was made on an ITV documentary series screened in the late 60's / early 70's, called "All You Need Is Love", which traced the development of popular music from blues to, well, the late 60's or early 70's. I remember watching it with fascination. Wonder if it's available on archive?

This should remind us that everyone was young once and that some age with grace.
Alberta Hunter was a sweetheart, tremendous voice and heart to go along with it. Her and Eubie are two treasures that can never be replicated.
This has really touched me. So glad that I came across this post, and I thank you sincerely for sharing it.

This is a treasure! I love this song and I enjoyed watching his face as Ms. Hunter recited the lyrics.

Eurbie Banks and Alberta Hunter were phenomenal!
Unbelievably wonderful! Can we bring him back? ;)
Wow! Thank you.
touching and a glimpse of the Jazz era and roaring '20s
Words can't describe how beautiful this is
Albert and Eubie are two icons of the best jazz all the time.
I remember, back in the 1970's, Eubie Blake and Alberta Hunter became rather well known TV celebs. Sort of a "second chapter" to their carreers.
I love you jazzgirl 1920's..
Viva Alberta !!
Great! The very music, in this time of "bands"...
So sentiment and beautiful, how he looks at her
The one and only Alberta!
