Someone living a quiet life in natural beauty is doing a great service to all humanity and to the earth. The earth is grateful, we’re all grateful to glimpse this, if only fleetingly but to hold in the heart. ❤
Thank you for a lovely look at Scotland’s highlands. I do live on an island in the Pacific Northwest USA close to Canada. I live in town now on San Juan Island but have lived more remotely at different times. I love island life. My grandparents came from Beauly in Scotland
I lived on Sanday, one of the Northern Orkney isles for many years and now live in the Highlands. Surprisingly, we had better access to facilities on the island than we do here regarding shops, swimming pool, gym etc. I still miss living on the island even with occasional 120 mph winds and the longest darkest winters with horizontal sleet driving into your face. Life is ruled by the weather and shortages of coal, heating oil and petrol can be caused by the tankers not getting out when the boats don’t run. Relationships can be tricky too as you are all living in a very small community that changes its dynamics as people come in and move out. But, the sight of snow laden clouds streaming above the ocean and the sound of the haunting song of the seals will never leave me.
I understand where you're coming from ... sometimes in small communities the facilities can be more generous and available than in larger communities. I lived in the Falkland Islands and that was definitely my experience. Also, you say about the extremities of weather and the occasional shortages of supplies ... but, those edges are where we feel the most excitement, where we feel the ease and tension of relationships with our neighbours. And, then you mention the almost calming and seductive sensations of being with nature and that, somehow, eases everything. A great post, thank you x
Wow! It is absolutely stunning! When I was younger I was an extravert and loved being in a city (I am not talking as big as New York). Now, I live rather secluded in the mountains and love it. I love we are surrounded my forest. I love being in nature. My circle is very small. I love being secluded. I am happy for you that you recognized this same need sooner than I did.
to answer the question you posed - absolutely, in a heartbeat. when my wife retires in a few years, if I'm lucky enough to still be here then we'll be exploring the possibility
I grew up on the Isle of Arran with family who live there, I have moved overseas a number of years ago and miss the island so much. seeing your videos is so wonderful and I thank you so much for them. Arran is so precise and beautiful and so full of history, I do miss its wildness, storms and the people. would love to return one day. there is so much to say about the Island, when I returned for a holiday I felt so at ease and at home, It was so hard to leave. one day I hope to return for good where my family remains.
Oh my goodness Molly, what an utterly beautiful vlog, it radiates throughout your reasoning for calling where you live home. I recently read your piece on coming off Instagram, I truly believe your heart definitely lies in your RUclips channel and I absolutely adore it, I always look forward to your updates, thank you for being you. Xx
Hi Molly we live in the USA and my husband and I would love to live on an island away from people. We love peace and quiet. When we want to be around people then we would go to town. Thanks for sharing 💚
Stunningly Beautiful ! Magnificient ! The surroundings speak to the Soul and the inner quiet of our beings ! Thank you so much for sharing with us this marvellous existence ! We wish you Love and Peace and many wonderful days ahead ! The Tranquility and Harmony of Nature balances the Soul in a midst such this ! Just watching your Videos is blissful and pure Joy ! Love every Video you share !Thank you ! 👍👍❤❤
I grew up on a farm in the Snowy Mountains of Australia so I also feel that my childhood of freedom, nature and farm life made me who I am. That is why I love rambling, hiking and observing nature so much and have to be outside every day. There were some downsides, yes, and that did mean going to a larger city for high school and university and being away for long periods of time. But the connection is so strong and the land itself speaks to my heart in a way that never fails to calm or heal me, even at age 50 when I return. Winter was not fun but my Mum turfed us outside anyway, just had more layers on! Another great video Molly.
Hi Molly 😃 I've just recently subbed to your channel as I'm really a fan of these 'slow living' videos after stumbling across The Cottage Fairy's channel and falling in love with these beautifully innate and relaxing-style vlogs. It might not come as a total shocker to you if I tell you that I am also an introvert and as someone who once lived in a very over-populated (and not very nice) part of South East Essex for many years, now that I live in Shropshire, I feel like I'm truly 'spoilt' because where I am is the perfect mixture of rural and townie. I have to say that I'd like to possibly visit where you film in these videos as I've never been to Scotland (or Ireland) but as a keen walker, I know there are some stunning locations to visit! I hope you're having a lovely Bank Holiday weekend and keep up the great content 🙂👌
@@hippyhighlandliving Thank you, I absolutely ADORE living here in The 'Shire, it feels like I should have been born here instead of back dahhhhn sarrrrrf where I never really felt at home or that I fit in! It probably helps that I'm 48 years old so for me, this more 'relaxed' pace of living is absolutely perfect AND essential for me 😎👌
😍 Been chillin to some fantastic Molly content again, definitely feelin the love for the Isle of Arran🥰. Excited to see all your future island vlogs. Would your folks be open to the idea of you interviewing them to share their memories of what it was like for them moving to a remote island and raising a young family there, highlighting the joys and challenges of that experience! Also, as an enthusiast for “small space living” you mentioned about self-build, buying land etc, it would be so interesting to watch you interview someone who has gone down that route in recent times and embraced self sufficiency, sustainablility and made it work for them financially.
I live in the US on my family's farm. It is a small area, and like my alone time. Your videos are informative and quite relaxing. It is rewarding to be able to live the life we enjoy.
Such beautiful scenery I had to watch it twice! I would love to live in such a place, or the highlands of Scotland; unfortunately, my husband has only agreed to live as far north as the Snowdonia area of Wales. More nature, less humans, is always a happier place for me… books, dogs, a garden… (good vegan food); really doesn’t get any better than that. :)
Snowdonia is 😍 I live in Shropshire and have been there a few times with walking groups. Wales has some beautiful places and I'm sorry to admit that as an ex-Southerner, I was blithely ignorant to just how stunning it is having never been there before and just thinking it would be all sheep and hills and nothing else! 😁
I was lucky enough to live on Arran a few years ago, in Kilmory. Almost every day after work i'd be either down on the beach with the dogs or up walking through the forest paths past Glenashdale and down to the Coffee Pot in Whiting Bay. Beautiful in the summer months, but often quiet in the winter (not that it bothered me :) ). The last time I visited I was down on the beach at Kildonan and I met a stranger who knew the guy I used to work for, he said I could call in at his place anytime - if he wasn't in I was told to just make myself at home, there'd be plenty of tea to drink and books to read, he said. That still makes me smile, how people can be so welcoming. I could sit and talk all day about this place to anyone :) I often find myself daydreaming about it when my mind switches off and goes into screen saver mode. Thank you for sharing this video!
I was born and brought up on Mull and I know all about ferry stress. I still have dreams about catching the ferry! I now live in s w Portugal but miss Scotland a lot.
Hello Molly from Italy, I enjoy watching your videos, its convey calm and peace to me. Altough I grew up in a capital city Budapest, I prefer living close to nature. I've lived in Toscany for many years before moving to Northeast Italy. A special " grazie" for sharing and introduce us to amazing and remote places.🌻
If there was space for me to grow my own food then I'd love this type of lifestyle. Can't see it ever happening though because I don't have the funds to make it happen, although I would imagine it would be great for my youtube channel. All the best.
Hello Molly, I just found your channel, very grateful. I will be watching more of your videos. I always thought I would like to live on an island but have never tried it. I am from the USA and would love to escape, wouldn't we all. I have traveled to Scotland for vacation many times and love it. It is a very special place. Thank you for your channel. Appreciate all the work you put into it. All the best to you.
It´s very rare to find people who also talk about the downsides of living remotely and/or rurally instead of only showing the picture-perfectly-edited side of things. Thanks for sharing your honest opinions along with these beautiful images! xx
This is so beautiful, but it's something about these nature scenes that scream magic/otherwordly. Some of the places you walked through have so much spiritual energy, it radiates even through video.
In May 2020 I was to move from Canada to the Isle of Lewis. Then came the pandemic and a number of other losses, and I decide to stay in Canada for now. Not sure when I will make my move now. Wait and see.
I just stumbled across your channel... and I'd love to one day move to one of the Hebrides islands. I visit them often enough, so the next step would be to move. But, realistically, I'm not too sure how to go about it. Land may be cheaper on the more remote islands, but it would be really hard to keep up a steady income (especially during winter). On the inner Hebrides, there's a fairly steady source of income with tourist trade... but you need to win the lotto to be able to afford even a tiny house on those islands. So, for now, it's a dream. And hopefully I'll figure out the practicalities one day 😁
I would live on Mull in a heart beat. We've been visiting Mull yearly for nearly 20 years, but we've noticed it's getting busier with more tourists, campervans motorhomes ...certainly because of cheaper ferries, staycations... Paradise is being on a Scottish Island beach with not another soul in sight... I totally get why you've made it your home.
I am visiting Arran the first week off Arran. What can I expect. A lot off the places I would like to see a photo seam very hard to get to. Goat Fell King's Cave. I’ve lived on islands for short time periods. I believe island living changes people mostly due to the geographical, social, and sometimes sustainable limitations. I’d suggest that anyone interested in living on an island try it first. Maybe on vacations. Maybe in different seasons. Try to get a feel for it before packing up and moving everything there. Also, being a water and watercraft person could strengthen an island lifestyle.
