Why not wind power? Many wind turbines farms are put in the mountains. Now turbines are expensive, but they have mini vertical turbines that can be put on roof tops or a sturdy small platforms that will produce electricity day AND night and would be most efficient in the highlands.

Your home is beautiful, and your way of life generally.🙂👍
I would say for the future, though, ditch the gas. I always had a gas hob and considered it the best way to cook, but now we're more and more aware of the pitfalls of it as a form of energy, and we really need to change our thinking about it. At the time of changing to a smaller (though not tiny!) wooden house here in France, I was very happy to be free of the chore of gas bottles (not much mains gas here outside of bigger towns), and switched to an induction hob, with a heat pump for hot water, and am really glad to have done so. We manage with small efficient electric storage heaters, good insulation, and burn a small quantity of wood pellets, though even these are a bit doubtful now (the burner came with the house).

This is so encouraging! Thank you for sharing your journey! We also envision ourselves living minimal off-grid lives on our own land, and it is exciting to watch someone going through their own journey and sharing similar struggles to follow their dreams. We are excited to have found your channel and look forward to following along!

It is really lovely - well done to you both and the mother (as the mother of adult children some of whom live at home or work from my home regularly is it a huge issue of course and not something every parent wants). I believe in England at least these are classed like a caravan for planning and I think should not be rented out so it can be complex. Also anyone unmarried to a partner do have a written agreement about who owns what % of it and what happens if people decide to part etc.

Wonderful way of life. Good luck with it all. Just the big problem of eventually buying your own land. Surely that would mean getting a mortgage or working lots & lots again for years to save probably around £75,000 for an average small plot in Scotland so you are truly independent of using family/friends garden space which is probably not long term workable & not something many folk could actually have available. Thats probably why most folk who would love this lifestyle just dont have the land available. How does the task of paying for land in the future fit in with your life, work, income situation now. I'm guessing you will be working more in future to pay for it. All the best with your plans and hope it works out.

I love you tiny home. Did you design your floorplan as well, or did you use a pre-designed type of kit?

Surprised that you don’t need planning permission to have that trailer in someone’s garden. Is that because it’s a temporary building? (It’s a beautiful home, by the way)

I read online that it's because it's classed as a caravan and you don't need permission for that
