Girl you're so chaotic and I'm here for it all 😂😂....Funny how I put on this episode to loosen my twist and i can tell you I'm going through it😭😭😭I have a beautiful 4b hair but its not easy like the video says cos tell me why I have to sit for more than 3 hours loosening and detangling my hair!!!! I love my hair but I absolutely dislike the take down process, its exhausting!!!😭😭 Mind you I have a really soft hair but the curl pattern is tight I think, overall love love this episode 😌🥰

Regarding the hair topic. My 9 year old daughter wanted to wear her Afro to a birthday party and my parents were so against it. They didn’t think it was “presentable.” I told them not to voice their opinions to her because she loves her Afro/4c hair. She went and all the kids and parents kept telling her she looked like a beautiful Barbie doll. I agree we should be able to show up in our authentic self and be proud of the crown we are blessed with

I neeeded that hair talk. I realized that I went through my whole self love journey from last year with a wig on LOL and this made me ask myself, can I truly go out with confidence in my Afro? I want to so bad but I need more time to work on it 😅 another journey to do 😂

Girl self love l believe is whatever makes you happy, confident, comfortable! Going out in an afro and you don’t even feel good in it then that’s just following the hype/people.

This was so good! I fully though I was gonna be sitting here on double speed or not make it through but I made it all the way to the end and loved every perspective, even if it was different than my own.

That is an interesting conversation. You are so right. As a kid growing up in the West my grandma used to say “don’t embarrass me in front of these white folks”. We were always taught to be seen and not heard. They don’t want people looking at us judging us. I think it’s incredibly concerning. I let my 3 black sons explore their world. They are respectful but my husband and I have always let them have a voice.

The money I have saved not buying $400 wigs and all the over priced hair products is crazy. Shaving my head and presenting myself in the white corporate space was the scariest and best thing I ever done. The one thing I never expected was the attention my head gets now. I don’t think a day has gone by since I shaved my head that someone hasn’t stopped me and complimented me on my boldness and appearance. I gained a whole new acceptance and appreciation for myself

I don't think it's always because we're comparing it to white hair. I can spend up to an hour detangling my hair and that's what makes it hard😢. But I love my afro❤

I am American and was allowed to play in dirt, trees amd just be a kid as were my cousins but when we were at the dr, grocery store, train, bus we were not to be running around so basically it was there was a time and place for everything.

Jah & Jahes love. Thanks for sharing your story. And I would like to add that black and brown children are judged by others, and the CPS would have taken you away from your dear parents had they allowed you to run around. As a matter of fact, black kids who seem out of control are often mistreated and disciplined by white and non-black people. At school and in court, they are often subjected to more intense disciplinary actions and institutionalized at much higher rates than white and Asian kids. In America, parents like the fake image of a perfect child. They dress you a certain way and talk a certain way in public (perfectly behaved). But when you are at home, you act as you are. Black parents care too much about what other people think, and the child has to deal with that fake image you want to force on them. You can teach your child to be well-behaved without forcing them to be something they are not.

True. We have to acknowledge where it comes from.... a history where blk ppl were judged harshly & how others see you could literally lead to your death.

Jah & Jahes love siSTAR. This was a fascinating episode. I loved the first part when you talked about Black women and natural hair. I just wished that you had included folks who wear dreadlocks. I had dreads when I was 18 through 22. At that time, I wanted to change, and I was fascinated with 1960s photos of bald-headed Black women from Kenya. I was bald for a couple of years, and I decided to grow my hair back because it made me feel more feminine. I've had my natty dreads since 1994, and I LOVE them. I will die with my dreads, and I accept myself fully. Blessed love.#1804#Ayiti#ToutMounseMoun#AbolishCPS#AbolishPoverty#DefundFosterCare#ProChoice#RawVeganforLife#HR40NOW#220YearsFREE#FreeAyiti#NoNewOccupationofAyiti#BwaKale#LandBackNOW

Hey Sofi. Great topic. Hair and applying makeup is something that can take 5 minutes or 2 hrs. It’s preference and what ppl have time for.
Love Afrobeats but my 1st exposure was from the UK. Not America. Following Afrobeats about 5 yrs now. Yes Sofi. I understand what you’re saying. The artists are making the music more diverse, hooky, catchy but the African vibes and Flabs is the base. Love Burna Boy, Davido, Rema, Tems, Ayra Star. Can go on and on. Love Amapiano. Look at how American artists Iove the music and dance and trying to incorporate the sound into their music. Beyonce. Justin Bieber. Selena Gomez. Chris Brown & the list goes on.
Wait. There’s no awards to celebrate Afrobeats and the artists in no country in Africa? If so you’re right. Theres many big artists that can invest back into Africa.
    Great kid discussion.
Great podcast in general. See you next week 🤗
