Thank you for listening to one of the best unknown band out there. They have an excellent catalog - thirty year's worth! Margo Timmins has a singular voice. The violinist is not a regular par of the band. Michael Timmins is the guitarist - her brother. Her other brother is the drummer (Pete Timmins). Alan Anton is their amazing bass player.
Harri, welcome to the Cowboy Junkies. Great group, criminally overlooked. I highly recommend their song "Misguided Angel" - Margo's voice will give you goosebumps. You'll be thanking me and all others who convince you to give it a listen. I enjoy your reactions very much - your maturity and understanding are much appreciated.
This Canadian band "Cowboy Junkies" first album "Trinity Session" was recorded within the "Toronto 's Church of the Holy Trinity" on College Street, their whole album is epic, a must for record/album collections.
Their first?! Trinity is third maybe 4th. Whites of earth now The caution horses Then the Trinity session. I think I've forgotten one but, of course you only know the popular velvets cover.
"Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning", "'Cause Cheap Is How I Feel", Misguided Angel", "Sweet Jane", "My Little Basquiat", and many, many, many more. They're whole catalogue is outstanding.
Harri, you are reacting to one of my favourite bands, Cowboy Junkies are basically Margot Timmins and her brothers Michael and Peter, with Alan Anton. Margot has a voice to make me tear up every time, if you can listen to Mining for Gold without tearing up you are made of stone, other beauties are Sweet Jane (yes the Velvet Underground cover), Sun Comes Up it's Tuesday Morning, Misguided Angel and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.
Cowboy Junkies are super cool and laid back. Love her voice and there musicianship. Not a lot of radio play so you had to look for them. Thanks Hari. It's a Beautiful Day and Cowboy Junkies on back to back days. Your digging deep my friend. Keep up the great work!
Another great and honest reaction by Harri Best, excellent !! Since you have taken interest in some of the great Canadian writers (Lightfoot, Peart, Young, Mitchell, Commins/Bachman combination, Bryan Adams & etc.) I was wondering if you have ever heard of an another great Canadian writer by the name of Andy Kim(The Archies). "Rock Me Gently" and "Sugar Sugar" were # ones on American chart and many more "Baby I Love You" "So Good Together" " How'd We Ever Get This Way." and so many more hits.
I have followed the Cowboy Junkies for many, many years ( sometimes from concert to concert in my motorhome). Fabulous, brilliant band but I consider their old music as the best. For example, consider the albums "Lay it Down", "Back-eyed Man", "Pale Sun, Crescent Moon". "Trinity Sessions" etc. Play some more!
A wonderful song by a great Canadian songwriter covered by one of Canada's most-underrated bands. I was lucky to hear the Junkies live at one of our local festivals. My luck intensified as Margot hugged me while I was getting her to autograph one of their CDs.
Neil Young is my favourite artist, seen him live many times, rarely does anyone do a better version of one of his songs, but this absolutely nails it, fabulous.
Another great Canadian Band, covering another Canadian. Cowboys Junkies produced many beautiful tunes in the 80's. Beautiful vocals. My favourite, "Where are you tonight?" Great reaction. Thanks Harri abd Frank. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
What a haunting take, the ambience in a sense just explodes the senses in one's brain. We are proud of the Cowboy Junkies in Canada, every single song they do is worth listening to. Cheers from Canada
This is one of my faves. Both the song and the group doing it. You must listen to "Sweet Jane" by this band. There must be something in the Canadian environment that produces these great musicians (Neil Young and Cowboy Junkies).
@@BoudiciaDark You are right. I discovered it before I read your comment, and added another post here. I will leave it, so maybe Harri will be more likely to react to this fabulous song. One of the most amazing things I have ever heard. Margo is a Goddess.
If you have the chance to see them live, do it. They are just tremendous to see live. Her voice is so smooth, they cohesion of the band is great. I've met them and they are as gracious to their fans as they are talented
Great song. Great version of the song. My understanding is that Neil Young wrote this song for Ronnie Van Zant. I’ve always wondered how it would have sounded if Ronnie and Lynyrd Skynyrd would have lived to record it.
Once again you pick a massive favourite band of mine. The version of Bowie's 'Five Years' from this same session is also a stunning version. I have had decades of pure joy from these legends.
Gruppo straordinario, difficile restare indifferenti al loro suono e alla splendida voce di Margo. Di grande spessore anche le cover che hanno interpretato. Grazie, sperando di vederli in Italia.
I just heard Cowboy Junkies do a version of Jerry Garcia's "To Lay Me Down", and it totally blew me away. Harri, you must react to that one. It may be the saddest, most beautiful song I have ever heard.
She was just born to sing - haunting voice and real sensitivity in the delivery. I would recommend going to Blue Moon Revisited or Misguided Angel as well
Now that you have discovered COWBOY JUNKIES you MUST see, hear and react to them doing MURDER TONIGHT IN THE TRAILER PARK, the live version from Newport Music Festival.
Good one, Harri! ...For Cowboy Junkies, I recommend the song "Far From My Home" It's got some really smart lyrics, and it's a perfect blend of energy and mellow contemplation.
Hi Harri-I'm so glad you listened to, and liked this song, and this band. I hope you're feeling better by now. I just listened to your reaction to Powderfinger again, and have a thought or two to share. I believe that there isn't any need to apologize for playing a cover, when it's a great cover of a great song. One sign of a great song is how many really good covers has it engendered. It takes a talented artist or band to make a cover of a really great song that stands alone, and/or makes it their own. A really great song can shine on as multiple different versions. I see from your past reactions that you've heard a bit of Van Morrison. I enthusiastically agree with others who've spoken positively about Sweet Jane and the album The Trinity Sessions. It's a must have album, easily in my top 20. For 3 days, I've been trying to come up with a Van the Man song to recommend. Currently, at this point in my life, I find myself seeking out performers and bands that are indisputably sui generis. I mean, when is the last time you ever heard anybody say that so-and-so sounds like Van Morrison? Never, right? (Same for Cowboy Junkies, too). To me, one who has been listening to Van since he was the lead singer of Them in 1964, he's one of the most talented performers of my generation, or any other generation, for that matter. For you, Harri, Van could be a gold mine. You could spend multiple years reacting to different songs, from different performances, and never repeat a single video. This man has a body of work, and many, many live performances. I'm the same age Van is, and it's often bittersweet for me to watch performances from 50 years ago, because that 50 years feels like about 15 years when I look back on it. (All you Besties be advised, Tempis Fugit is the Truth! Van sings about "the eternal now" on the song "Take Me Back" ruclips.net/video/jBCG8SXD0NY0/видео.html believe me, the earlier in your life that you realize how true that is, the sooner you'll look for "the eternal now" in your own daily life)...great song, btw, end of sermon. Having said all that, and planning on suggesting other favorites of mine in the future, today I'm suggesting a 2015 live performance in Belfast of "On Hyndford Street" that will make your heart full, I think. ruclips.net/video/Mk8d8GtIZkQ/видео.html I hope you and everybody else will enjoy a living legend, deliver a true, memorable life message. Incidently, listen to the elderly, sometimes we know what we're talking about (you still get to decide), sometimes not. You'll be surprised how having 90+% of your life behind you tends to concentrate the mind. Peace, all. Over and out, Frank Stillson (spare time amateur philosopher)

Lovingly reffered to by fans as country music on quaaludes. ❤ Margo Timmons does not have a strong voice but it great tonal resonance and her signature sound comes from that fluid tone and slightly overmicing.
Neil and the junkies are all Canadians, so maybe maybe. Also, the junkies first album was all blues covers + 2 original songs. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you already like what they did with Neil. However, they are most famous for their cover of TVU sweet Jean
whatever frills cowboy junkies ever had, they lost them really early on. They do wonderful songs of their own but I just love the reverence they treat covers with. Lou reed hailed their super slow version of sweet Jane; they really brought the lyrics to life in a way the original kind of sped past. Lou had a verse for 100 women and he sings them almost as throwaways, but Mary lovingly cradles each word to the mic.
You need to listen to more by the Cowboy Junkies. Margo Timmins could sing the phone book for me and I would still be entranced. Got to see them in Warwick UK lat year. Check out.. Cold Evening Wind and many others.
Margo Timmins is the lead singer and is one of the best singers Canada has ever given the world. Their covers are magnificent but Margo's brother writes most of their originals. Mlm
First of your videos I have seen. Liked and subscribed in hopes that you will be intrigued enough to listen to some more of The Cowboy Junkies. The Caution Horses is one of those damn near perfect albums. I strongly suggest it.
I’ve been following both Neil Young and Cowboy Junkies for as long as they perform. I have listened intensely to both of their version. Neil is an amazing songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. However, I feel Margo’s version has more emotion. Haunting! It “hits” me more than Neil’s version - without trying to take anything away from Neil!
Hey HB, A suggestion. 'Bring it on Home ' Sonny Williamson. It seems older but there was no year posted. Thanks California blonde. 😂 Also Sonny Williamson, 'Bye Bye Bird'. Just harmonica and voice.
As I first heard The Cowboy Junkies I`ve bought the vinyl record "Trinity Sessions" and all songs were great but my favorite was "Sweet Jane" a song from Lou Reed. Here is a very cool vid: ruclips.net/video/RleJ0xUSBtU/видео.html&ab_channel=theneighborsdog . Lou Reed himself said the C.J. makes the best version I`ve ever heard and that's right, I think ! Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany) and many thanks for sharing this fucking good stuff ;-))
Great reaction to a fantastic song. Now , somebody request Surfs Up by the Beach Boys. Spoiler alert. THIS SONG IS NOT WHAT YOU ARE EXPECTING!. Have a listen, it will dumbfound you that it is the Beach Boys.
Beautiful and nuanced voice. Too bad the Sound Engineer amped up the guitar. The guitar player has talent, it's just somebody is much too proud of it. There is a time and place for a guitar solo, but it is not the entire song. Somebody commented that there is a bass player and drummer in this band. You couldn't prove it by this song.

They also did an excellent cover of the Lou Reed song "Sweet Jane"
Everything she sings is haunting and beautiful.
The Cowboy Junkies like Blue Rodeo are an excellent Canadian country rock folk band. Lovely haunting song.

"Sun Comes Up, It's Tuesday Morning", "'Cause Cheap Is How I Feel", Misguided Angel", "Sweet Jane", "My Little Basquiat", and many, many, many more. They're whole catalogue is outstanding.
Their "Sweet Jane" is a sentimental favorite. "Blue Moon" too. Mellifluous voice.

"Dreaming my dreams with you" is a great title and a lovely song of theirs.

In case you haven't covered it (I'll look after this is over), Cowboy Junkies' Misguided Angel is gorgeous and will also haunt you.
