The aniseed taste is fennel seed, very traditional spice that goes with pork in all its forms. Calabrians eat a lot of chilli ,so Calabrese is going to be spicy.

I was vegetarian for years and can't stand the "artisan" bullshit vegetarian pizzas. Vegetarian pizza is so easy to get right; Cheese pizza, Mushroom pizza, Italian style eggplant pizza, tomato and olive pizza, and so many options that actually taste good. You can even make it all vegan by just removing the cheese or using a fake cheese substitute (some of them actually taste pretty good these days).
When they do all the potato and pumpkin with seed crumb bullshit they ALWAYS fuck it up.
Yeah agreed, the basic veg pizzas are way better than the gourmet veg BS.
However, I did like an old pizza place that did a truffle potato pizza that they called Mr. Potato Head. But I love potato. Might be the old Irish blood in me. ;)

Definitely need to check out Westwood pizza in Newtown again if you're doing a pt3, the garlic and honey is one of the most insane pizzas ive had - and thats coming from someone who loves meat.

I think this might be the first time I've ever seen Spanian actually flipping out over how good the food is. Very rare to see him actually praise something, and usually it's just "yum" without much else.
Love your channel! If you do pizza again you have to go to Rosso Pomodoro in Balmain. As an Italian, by far the closest to a pizza in Italy I’ve had.

Apart from the second one in Enmore, all the bases (dough) were the traditional Naples style where Pizza started but all of them were American style with the type and amount of topping used. For Novocastrians, there are only two places i know in Newcastle that do Naples style bases which are the Oriential (Ori) Hotel in Cooks Hill and Sevens Seas Hotel in Carrington.
That last pizza store bit was so funny lol,it looks like something you would take on a ghost hunt lol lol

For anyone in Brisbane who’s looking for an awesome pizza, similar to the first one Spanian had, I’d highly recommend “Pizzalunga da Carlo” located at Nundah. In my opinion they are the best authentic Italian pizzas in Brisbane, they are second to none, especially their Margherita D.O.P pizza they sell. We drive 30km from where we live to buy their food it’s that good. I’m not related or friends with the owner, chef or any of the staff. I just used to work near there and had lunch there and became immediately hooked on their amazing pizzas!
