New Ground, ‘an outgoing, light quartet’, is based on a famous old ground: that used by Johann Pachelbel in his well-known Canon (used ‘just not to disappoint anyone,’ according to PGH).
Pachelbel’s ground isn’t spelt-out verbatim; PGH gives it an extra bar and a little chromatic detour on its way home.
Apart from that, the technique is every bit baroque: above the consistently looping ground, the discourse becomes ever more complicated and outlandish, and, in this case, fractious, flailing, scared and animalistic.

Sounds like first graders trying to play Pachelbel's canon and failing miserably. The composer is so very clever.

je suis passionné de musique moderne telle que berio , nono , xenakis , georges crumb, schnittke , jacinto scelsi , k A hartmann, ,berndt alois zimmerman , pierre boulez , , olivier messiean , ect mais cette oeuvre ne m'inspire aucun des bonheurs que me procurent les créations d'un schoenberg , un webern , berg , prokoviev, scriabine , bartok , rachmaninov , stravinsky , mais j'ai appris qu'il faut parfois du temps de la concentration , réécouter les oeuvres pour apprécier un compositeur pourtant moderne qui comme le dit un auditeur nous livre là un pâle succédané de pachelbel , de webern, ou artvo part ,, et ce afin de rester dans le cadre de bienséante politesse , merci

OMG.... Listening to this isn't even slightly rewarding. Shame Pachelbel isn't still alive to sue the composer for plagiarism. Utter nonsense and of no value whatsoever.
