Dude! Alex! It’s looking sharp! I’m super jealous. The only thing I would do is put the trainer on the other side of the garage and add a window that you can access on your left. But hats off to you, it’s coming out smashing!!!
Form a 30 year veteran mechanic, FWIW: tool boards, if you're not in a commercial workshop (and want to show off your tool bling, which is a bit phallic anyway), are a rubbish idea. Things fall off them (onto your bike, your head and hands), moisture lands on the tools and rusts them, and people can see them to steal. Well-insulated and weatherised (lockable) tool drawers are a much better idea, and much easier to organise, and re-organise when the inventory changes (and don't look so sad when your broken/stolen tools leave gaps or look crap). Also, whilst Park Tool make the best bike-specific tools on the planet (apart from maybe Pedros), you are being seriously ripped off if you buy their general purpose tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, spanners, sockets (except for specific ones), knives, scissors . . . . Park get them made in a big Taiwanese factory, like everyone else (except most German & a few US brands). Find a good local brand that car mechanics buy and get those. Teng Tool, Kincrome, Sidchrome are brands local to me that cost less and are the same or better quality than what Park puts their name on. Then you've got more $ for the bike-specific tools that they make, such as presses, truing stands, work stands . . .
No idea how you had enough patience to leave that Wahoo stuff completely boxed up till the end of that day! That would have opened instantly in my garage haha. Top build Alex 👍
Truly agree Mark! Shook my head I soon as I saw it. I build shelves for a many of clients and they always wanted to know how strong the top shelf. I said it's as strong as the lower shelves but it not the shelf that you want to store your bowling balls! Common sense is not very common. :D !!!
Looks designed for YT video rather than real world use. Are you going to clean your bike on the trainer? Or on the other side of the garage or outside? Shelf and hangers would be better near the garage entrance IMO.
great pain cave! But I must point out one glaring issue The muc-off shelf with all their liquid products is located just above a tv. There is a reason why most industrial companies store their chemicals and liquids on the bottom shelf and not above anything of value. In case of spillage, you would probably damage your TV as the vents are likely on top of the TV and it would be able to leak directly into the electronics of said TV. I would seriously consider relocating the shelf or the TV. Otherwise, great pain cave as said before.
Nice build! But I do not advise mounting wood directly to the wall. That’s dangerous for mold buildup. You especially don’t want that in a room where you will breath heavy often -> when working out
It might not be an issue if the garage is reasonably ventilated. I do similar in my shed which is built similar and have no issues. The doors open, and there are some gaps around doors and fresh air circulates and keeps the moisture levels down. It would be an issue if the room was tightly sealed up. Would be nice to hear how well ventilated the garage is perhaps in a future video. Also any plans for heating and or aircon. My shed is way too hot in summertime for turbo sessions. Perfect over winter though.
Guys I hear your sensible advice for Alex but to his credit for ventilation he can open garage door and there looked like a lot of block wall dust when hovering up AND he also used wall plugs!!!! All in all I’m just jealous of his setup 😃
Loving it Alex. I have my own man cave and have spent many hours in there over the last 20 years. You have done a sterling job so far and can't wait for the next installment
I'm not sure how thick your OSB walls are, but I think you would have been better to use sheet metal screws rather than those plastic anchors for you bike holders. Nevertheless, an enviable shop.
Sweet setup Alex......your a lucky man......working from home is just gone to a whole new level 😃 I’m jealous and the whole of GCN must be too......🤔😂😂😂 also I do get a sense there was some product placement here too😜
I really enjoyed this series. Yes, I might have furred and insulated the exterior walls here in mid-America, but this project was done in 4 days by a weekend warrior, not four weeks by someone in construction. And of course there's product placement and tool bling. That's the point of a hobby!
You wanted comments on what people think you should add next to your cave, I would say get a sofa. You might have a friend around when you're fixing your bike or you might need to sit down after a hard session on the turbo, or many other reasons why someone might need to sit down. So I would definitely get a sofa and make sure it's located within an arms length of the fridge that is holding all your drinks.
I'm sorry but I hated this episode... all it achieved was making me jealous of all those cool new products most of us can't afford!!! hahaha great job Alex, keep it up!
you need to fit the bottom guides for the Topeak Racks itherise your bikes will flop when you swing them... ;-) I use them and they are great, but instead of staggering the height I just hang one up one down to avoid bar clashes.
when Alex was stood on the steps and hammering the rawl plug in to the wall he gave me the impression of being GCN's version of Fred Dibnah (for anyone who doesn't know - Fred was a steeplejack. You'll find videos of him on youtube)
@@billinhouston3291 Their cold is a damp cold, so although the numbers aren't as extreme, it can still feel pretty chilly. I hope that you came through it okay.
Personally would have put the MucOff shelf near the garage door and not above the TV. Less distance to walk when your washing your bikes and less likely to get liquids split in your TV.
Haven't you seen his video on just the set up. He's got a Wahoo fan and a water spray unit for cooling and "simulating rain" er.... Not sure I'd want that but you're right with its placement he'll need it for cooling.

I'd add insulation and a breather space behind those osb sheets

A multi material upgrade for the 3d-printer. ;)
Completely jealous! I have 700sq ft in NY to share with wife...not much room for a pain cave. I ride in the living room/kitchen....but I ride!
Need some nice prints on the walls. Pretty sure Ollie knows some to put up

This is a very interesting comment and as an apprentice I was told to never buy chrome spanners as they are the first ones to get stolen.
so we now know how to build the paincave? how about show us how to get all this stuff for free lol

Heads up to all future burglars: that Park Tools wall costs more than the bike
tools are expensive but not that much
Yeah same
Great muc off Shelf. But puting liquid's above a TV is that a good idea 🤔
is the same "good" idea to hang your bikes so close to your trainerplace
