You can use any arduino board, no specific reason for using Uno

if you set the pinMode to A0, why did you even create an int value for x_pin? it's pointless

You can use variable also.
When you are having lengthier code with lot of pins, declaring pin using name helps. If any pin to be changed, just u can edit in declaration section.
