that looks like a really nice city to me, very nice, well kept, the people have pride and take care of their stuff mostly, I like it. thanks for the tour!
My thoughts exactly. And you know the overall morale of the residents is much higher than blight blasted cities like Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, LA, etc...
Oh yeah.... That guy right there with his little barbecue stand on eastern..... Some of the best barbecue in town. Every time I see him out there, I stop and grab something. Nice guy. Excellent food.
@@jasonpitts8395Don’t you think he reaches out to someone in advance before he goes to interview?? 😂 I doubt he went to Southside Chicago and randomly pulled up on the block to interview people 😂
Years ago I flew to Detroit and drove past empty strip malls, vacant houses, etc. It was nothing but miles and miles of nothing. How does such a once great and vibrant city, a powerhouse auto maker city, turn into what it is today?
Over on Baxter and Bemis. That’s not even the hood like it was. I’d say you gotta Go back about 20 years and your ass wouldn’t be driving through that part of town. My grandma lived right on Logan and fuller and there was drive bys all the time. It definitely isn’t what it used to be to be now that sector has been bought out and being gentrified. Thanks to the rich and privileged. Now they walk around in a neighborhood they would have never even thought of going through before 😂
Not really much to see as far as "hoods". Grand rapids is probably the cleanest larger city in the state. There's some really grimey parts you missed but not much of them at all. Was much more hoods back in the early 00's but gentrification has been going really strong for a while now.
I grew up on the south side Grand Rapids Metro politan area between 131 division 44th & 54th 41 years & a lot has changed since the 80s yes im old enough to remember when the amway grand hotel was the tallest building in the city & lucky enough to have riden the monorail at herpelsymers (ill never be able to spell that name right) which sadly is now the 🚓 station.
I used to work for WOOD TV. You didn't go to the worst parts. GR hood isn't as bad as some cities its size, but it definitely has its elements; believe me, I got sent to them plenty. But overall, it's a pretty well kept city. Last year I worked there, Kalamazoo actually had more homicides despite being a third the size.
Lived in GR during the 1960s riots and subst taught in every school at the time lived on the Southside and eastown when there was a number of murders right around my house, those were interesting times for sure
I was born, raised and worked in GR for over 40 years. In the last 15 years or so, crime has gotten worse in the neighborhood being shown, because of people moving in from the Detroit/Flint area's. There are still quite a few nice area's in the city, which haven't been affected, yet. I retired and moved to my rural Northern Michigan acreage, where crime is almost nonexistent. Some of the worst crime area's in GR, to name a few, are called: The Black Hills, Burton Heights, South East Community, Roosevelt Park, and West Grand.
@@lookatme919 you wanna tell me where? I (a white guy) have no problem walking to chicken coop at hall/division on a Friday night at 2am. There ain’t a hood, every single inch of GR is friendly AF

I’m from Grand Rapids it is a beautiful city this is the hood area but as you see it’s well maintained
My thoughts exactly. And you know the overall morale of the residents is much higher than blight blasted cities like Detroit, Baltimore, Philadelphia, LA, etc...
most of the iconic early 90s hoods actually don't look bad, if you watch videos of people driving thru Compton and Inglewood they look pretty nice too
Don't mind the high number of homicides that come from this nice looking hood, nothing to see here.

Crime rate steadily increasing at least like 4-5 separate shootings a day not as much homicides as shootings

This video should be titled "well run conservative city". It was not always this way. I grew up here and the 70s 80s and 90s were very different.
