Ignore the people warning you about Japan. I'm half-japanese, and have family in Tokyo whom I visit every other year. It's a truly amazing country, so beautiful and rich in culture. Who cares if it's more western influenced, it's still SOOOOO different. It is a place everyone should visit at least once in their lives. Also, you'll be treated like a foreigner wherever you go that's not your country so who gives a fack lol, if it makes you happy then that's all that matters. Good luck :]

Im flying to Kyoto, Japan next year :) im 16 and it will be the first time i fly and the first time leaving the country as well. But im really excited for the trip though :)
Thanks! I recently went to Japan for a study abroad program, and I'm going to make a promo for it and I really need some music. I want to use this and your other video Traditional Japanese Music 1.
No, there are not more than a song. This is the original version of the song "Sakura Sakura", the traditional version. The other versions are different. Search on youtube "Sakura Japanese folk music" or "sakura traditional song."
Well ... Sakura is the Japanese cherry tree, a symbol of Japan. This instrumental is a traditional song sung in the Hanami festival every year. Sakura is also a very traditional female name in Japan among women. Maybe she is called Sakura because her hair is pink as the Sakura tree.
My friend is in Japan right now, and she told me the name of this song was called, "Sakura". This is very popular in Japanese video game. You probably heard it in Mike Tyson's Punch Out on the nes when you we're fighting Piston Honda. Haha! Or even in Shogun 2 Total War. You can here that song as well. It is very popular in traditionnal music in Japan.
So I looked up Japanese scales to practice on guitar and found that I really enjoyed them. Now maybe I'm wrong and I'm completely tone-deaf, but this sounds as though it is utilizing the Hirajoshi scale in the key of D. I only say this because I was playing along to this music (in the key of D) and found that I could consistently harmonize by playing on this scale. I don't know why I'm even mentioning it, but it felt quite magnificent to say the least. haha..
hirajoshi scale confuses me cause ive seen three different versions of it i foundn all you need to do to sound japanese is play a pantatonic minor scale while the other scales just change to a lowered 2nd/5th/7th
Judson Seeley It's easy to understand how one can become confused. The Hirajoshi consists of five modes whose names and intervals vary from region to region; not to mention the fact that some of these modes are also incorporated into completely different scale-forms from all around Japan (and all around the world for that matter). I approached my study of Japanese scales by first comparing them to more commonly used Western scale-forms and modes like the Locrian and Phrygian. While there were some similarities, there were also a number of big differences that I felt made the more traditional Japanese scales interesting. I was playing in D-Standard at the time (DGCFAD) which is why I chose to play in the key of D. Starting at the 12th fret I moved the entire scale up one whole-step (because my reference was in C), and found that the lower-end of the scale coincided almost perfectly with roughly the first 5 minutes of this video. If you are in E-Standard you can just as easily play starting at the 10th fret, but you would no longer be able to incorporate open-notes within the scale (or at least not as many). I like having open-note alternatives to any given scale so as to have variety, but that's my personal style. Here's my initial reference if you want it. It's only just where I started, but the Hirajoshi scale shown on this web page is nearly identical to what I played with this video; in the key of D however, not C, as I mentioned before. www.guitarcommand.com/japanese-scales/
+moebius Ive started to teach myself how to play some traditional japanese-esk tones on the piano, its really interesting... although sadly i dont have the mind to be able to read music so i mostly play by thought and ear
No, it comes from the cherry blossom tree named "Sakura". Sakura is a popular name, and if an anime character has pink hair there's a big chance her name is Sakura, that due to the color of the cherry flowers.
I plan on treading the path of the ancient shinobi. I will first become bilingual in the Japanese language, then learn the various forms of ninjutsu and weapons jutsu martial arts after moving to the outskirts of Mt. Fuji.
Well actually, sakura is the japanese word for cherry blossom, and this musicpiece is named after that blossom. And likely that character from naruto is named after it to, considering her pink hair; sakura is pink too.
I’ve been searching for them for years and can’t find any actual music by them. Listings on music services, but no actual music. I’m beginning to think they’re made up by the internet.
Try having someone who actually speaks japanese (no google translator or non japanese people) do a search for you, it worked for me when I was looking for a German movie called "Like Rabbits". Apparently some stuff in the internet is only reachable if you look for them using the right language.
@Bloodia16 unfortuneatly I can't recall there names, and i lost the files after i transfered to my new computer, all three songs are well known traditional japanese songs, so im sure you could find someone who knows them. Sorry i cant be of any help there.
I am pretty sure that is Mount Fuji in the background. You know, the famous Japanese mountain, the tallest in Japan, and according to tradition and antiquity the home of the Gods.
That song at 4:14 is so beautiful!! I love it! Unfortunatelly it is nowhere else to find nore to buy, neither in spotify. Can anyone help? I know that it is called "Moonlight Dance" and performed by the Osaka Clear Youth Orchestra...
