In 1972 Parliament Funkadelic was touring Maggot Brain. I was at an outdoor show with the Funkadelic’s headliners. A dude came up to me sitting on a blanket waiting for the first band and said little buddy wanna roll some for us. He threw me a huge gallon size bag and said I’ll be back rollem up and pass them on. I rolled on a frisbee and passed them on. Through out the day George and Eddie would come around and and get what I had rolled and commend me on a fine job. When the PFunk came on I looked and it was George and Eddie, I had had no idea who they were before then. George opens by saying you probably know us by our fingers because we have been passing dope all day thanks to a little buddy that has been rolling all day. I couldn’t believe it. They were over the top. To this day I wonder if George remembers that day. I sure do.

You’ve already reacted to Ween’s “A Tear For Eddie.” Now you’re finally doing Maggot Brain. The circle is complete. Eddie Hazel, Kidd Funkadelic, and Dean Ween are all guys that don’t get there props from the guitar community.

@@OmateYayami Hendrix and Page .... Lol there is a huge difference between those 2 first off Jimmy Page isn't that great of a guitarist.. he's a decent thief who was at the right place at the right time... Jimi blows him away in almost every aspect.. definitely sound way different tonally too.. SRV is a reincarnated Jimi who practiced alot more.. maybe check him out

The one guitar solo that inspired me like no other. I spent days playing over that chord progression. That one bended note, that somehow tries to reach the e but never really gets there (at least that's how it feels to me), is probably the note that I played more than any other in my life.

Michael I have become obsessed with your video's. I love your passion for the P! I have seen them about 50 times over the years including one memorable gig in Fort Lauderdale in the 90's when they took everyone to church for 4 hours of relentless uncut funk! I have also seen them when they are sloppy as hell but there are always moments of genuis. Thank you for turning the world on to Pfunk my bro!

There are three guitar players on stage which was normal for PFunk. The mix wasn’t shit, it’s not a board mix so whoever videotaped, was in front of Mike’s amp and Eddie’s was on the other side of the stage. Onstage, Eddie and Mike can obviously hear each other. Rodney “Skeet” Curtis and Dennis Chambers were a team. The intro is a D bending up to E but the E is hit on the E string, 12th fret. I spoke to Eddie’s mom before she passed away and Eddie sat down with me one day when we were at a show in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Other amazing guitar works/solos by Eddie Hazel imo: California Dreaming, Physical Love, Smedley Smorganoff, I'll Stay, Red Hot Mama, What About It, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge. The long outro solo on standing on the verge is probably one of the best video to watch Eddie playing without interruption. Great performance but the video quality isn't great.

How serendipitous that I recently got stuck on this song, and now you're reacting to it. Not that I haven't heard it before. It was featured in a House M.D. episode years ago for one, and now as I'm typing this I'm hearing that you've obviously heard this one before, still worth your reaction; the song is that S tier, you could have heard it a million times.

Eddie Hazel is the secret guitar god who unfortunately never gets his true due ( along with all The PF masters and music) The P and the constituent members have and continue to influence huge portion of music, pop culture and live concert presentation_across multiple musical periods and genres and are still a driving force in pop music today ( uptown funk anyone?). The P Funk DNA is in everything and most people even music heads don't even know from hip hop to dance music girl POP and good old blazing rock and roll all have been touched by the power of the P. EH, Micheal Hampton, Blackbird, Glen Goins, Catfish Collins - Gary Sheider alone are mindblowing rythym players. Find the clip of Red Hot Mama live with Micheal Hampton, Eddie ( in the background) Gary sheider and Billy Bass Nelson grinding and grooving with the amazing drummer Tyrone Lampson pure funk face melt. Great reaction Michael but don't fanboy out too hard on the amazing and iconic Dennis Chambers. All the PFunk drummers were exceptional.
Tiki Fulwood and Jerome Brailey (among others) left thier signature footprints and musical DNA all over the PFunk catalogue. Dennis is over-the-top good but I always liked watching Jerome play live back in the 70's. Of course, been following P-Funk around for the last five decades and have seen and hung out with them countless times over the years.
