K J Yesudas the legend, got his last national award 6 years back. He is aged 77 years in 2017 at the time of award. You cannot see many people able to sing at that age
P Susheela, S Janaki, K S Chitra ..... jewels from Southern Part of India (like many, they too are multi-lingual singers) Minsara Kanavu is the Movie you should check out (Both male and female singers won national award for their tracks) and it features Prabhu Deva as both actor and dancer.
S. Janaki and Chitra won national award for the same song in different language "Inji idupalagi" from Thevar Magan (tamil) and Virasat (hindi), this would be great to compare....All the singers are legends in their own way
Actually KJ yesudas himself told to National Award jury that he don't want awards, because he is getting awards continuously and other singers not getting them because of KJYesudas😂❤.What a Legend KJ yesudas 👏🙏.
K J Yesudas would have had mny more national awards. There was some controversial response by him saying awards do not matter to him much or something. After that, he wasn't named for a long time, you can see the gap between awards, during when there were actually so many of his masterpieces
Spb ,janaki amma, p.suseela pride of AP Ks.chitra, yesudas pride of kerala Vani jayaram -tamil nadu pride Latha ji- pride of M.P Shankar mahadevan - pride of MR Udit narayan - pride of Bihar Shreya ghoshal - pride of bengal Perhaps all being from different states but united by one country India....They all are pride of india....
Shreya Ghoshal won the National Award in 2009 for two different songs in two different languages (Jao Pakhi bolo- Bengali and Jeev Rangla- Marathi) Since you've already reacted to Jao Pakhi, I would highly suggest you jeev rangla from Jogwa by Ajay-Atul. It is so beautifully arranged and sung!
Need to keep in mind that by the time these awards had started, many singers were already in their mid 30’s or 40’s. So it’s logical that older singers have less number of awards. Also it was Lata Mangeshkar who made them start giving awards to the singers otherwise singers were not on the list of awards.
SPB🥰 Did you just said S Janaki a new name?.. So u were listening to Indian music without her!! Come on gyz u shouldn't skip the queen of dynamics and expression. 6:04 yh correct she was a baby, like in the age of 15 u can call her that 😄. Bt she won National film award for best actress for that film still holding that record.
The thing is, mostly, these people would sing the entire song in one go without any retakes. Otherwise, people like S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and P. Susheela wouldn't have sung more than 40,000 songs in multiple songs for which they hold Guinness records too.
Now you know what / who you have been ignoring so far. Just as you were not aware of Indian music few years ago - now you are in that stage for South Indian singers (did not know any top except KS Chitra and a little bit of KJ Yesudas). The trio of S Janaki, SPB and Ilaiyaraaja (composer) ruled the south film industry for decades.
'Jao pakhi bolo' this song is a bengali song and yea you're right here. It sounds sweet coz the language of this song is bengali. Most sweetest language in India ever. And shreya mam also belongs to this mother language. And arijit sir too. ❤🙏😊
SPB is a great singer, no doubt. But he is more like a mimicry artist in singing. He imitates many actors voice through his singing style. That never means he is the best singer that India has ever seen. There are many talented and versetile singers in our country.

Guys the names that you were new to are from South India. Most of those songs are evergreen classics in telugu and tamil. I just hope you guys don't ignore telugu from now on. Would recommend checking out songs from: 1. Shankarabharanam 2. Swathi kiranam 3. Siri siri muvva 😊
You can notice the majority of singers are from South only because South Indian languages whether you talk about Malyalam, Tamil, Telugu and kannada are ancient languages which have deep classical touch to it. We indians love classics whether it's dance, acting or singing. As you can see in the video mostly people were engaged in classical dance and drama.
A gentle to reply to many friends who comment about SPB being not trained in classical music, S Janaki being not trained etc - 1. Many singers, particularly these two, are talented to that extend that they have the ability to reproduce any tune, at any pitch the way the particular composer wants it. This ability does not require classical music training. 2. Singers like Yesudas, Chithra etc are trained. They have the advantage of performing classical music easily. For e.g. if SPB cannot wake up from bed and sing any keerthana that is demanded, because he might have to learn it first, whereas Yesudas probably knows all the Keerthanas from his teens and can sing it without a learning session. Thats the only difference 3. My point is - not being trained and winning awards does not add much to its greatness. They are awarded for their performance with that song, not because they were or were not trained. RIP SPB
Not to take anything from any other singer but Lata ji (maa) was a star name even before these awards were established (1967) ; they ( Lata Ji and Asha ji ) also publicly stated that they won’t accept awards ; she was the only playback and the second vocalist till date to be awarded the highest civilian honour - Bharat Ratna
Beauty of Balasubramanyam sir is he adapts his tone and way of singing differently for different heros based on how it best suites them. He is very versatile. That is the beauty of him.

Susheela is most underrated, we heard all these great singers voice before going to school in radio some songs gives us tense, bevause that somg is last song on radio while we are walking and heard from someone house. We run. What an amazing era of singers we have as childhood.
Surely there is no debate about the best singer of this generation as someone with 5 national award shouldn't be compared with anyone. Of course I'm talking about Shreya.
The actress in P. Susheela’s song is Jaya Prada. One of the most beautiful actresses of all times. Oscar winning director, Satyajit Ray once described her as “the most beautiful face to ever appear on Indian screen.” You should actually react to her song, such as - Dafli wale - De de Pyaar de - Mujhe Nau lakha mangade - Intehaan hogyi intzaar ki - Parbat ke us paar - Aa janeman Aaj tujhe And more… FYI, she was the biggest rival of Sridevi in 80s (their prime time).
