HAWAIIAN AIRLINES FLIGHT REVIEW 2020 (Flying During the Pandemic, LAX - HNL, Extra Comfort Seat)

  • UPDATED NOTE: Have just flown back from HNL to LAX in Nov 2020 and things have changed a bit. Looks like Hawaiian Airlines now tries to social distance where possible (not guaranteed). Was informed by Hawaiian Airlines starting Dec 1, 2020, social distancing will no longer be in practice. Something to note when flying moving forward!
    --------------------------------------------------
    In Sept 2020, I flew Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330 from Los Angeles to Honolulu in Extra Comfort. I thought to film a review of what it was like to fly Hawaiian Airlines in 2020 during the pandemic. Just a disclaimer, my aim isn’t to promote traveling during the pandemic. Yet, in case you need to fly or decide to, I wanted to give an honest review of what it’s like to fly Hawaiian Airlines in 2020.
    Let me know in the comments if you have any questions about what the flight was like or Hawaii in general. Totally happy to help! Stay safe and travel safe. xxx

      Hi Brittany, so happy that you found me & commented bc I just flew back to LA last night! So...it looks like now they are starting to phase out social distancing bc there was someone next to me when I boarded! My anxiety levels shot up! I spoke to a flight attendant who was quick to act & moved me to an empty middle row. They told me starting Dec 1, they're stopping social distancing. Oh my! My tip is to sit in an aisle seat in the middle row so hopefully no one is next to you & you have the aisle. I will be posting a Hawaii video soon - social distancing edition! Def look out for that video! If you haven't already, pls don't forget to subscribe :) I am going back to HI in Dec so more videos to come! xxx

      Thanks for that! They did hand out sandwiches basically almost right after we had reached causing altitude. I feel the drink service was more limited but I had brought my own water so I didn't really need much else. How is the pre-travel COVID testing? Is it a risky hassle or is it a smooth process?

    • @SophiesTravelSecrets
      @SophiesTravelSecrets  3 года назад

      Hi Ian, not sure of this yet. I flew before pre-travel testing rolled out. One thing to note is that you show your results when you land in Hawaii so I think there is a gap there in their thinking process. I think it should be no test no fly but that is not the case. I would still take all the safety measures like I did in this video (mask, wipe, try not to eat if you can). The safer you are on the flight, hopefully the more you'll be able to enjoy your time in Hawaii! I will be putting out a video on "What to do in Hawaii - Social Distancing Edition" video soon! Make sure to look out for it. When are you planning on going? I am deciding whether I am going to home for Xmas.

      @@SophiesTravelSecrets We're actually going in May so it's quite a ways out and things could definitely change but I booked first class tickets with Hawaiin airlines and made reservations at the Andaz in Maui so I'm just a little concerned about the timing of testing. It seems a little time consuming and not whole lot of time to complete the process.

    • @SophiesTravelSecrets
      @SophiesTravelSecrets  3 года назад +1

      @@ianstephens333 Oh you're good then as you have sometime until May. If flights are still flexible in May, you should be able to get the test done within the 72 hour time frame. I know Hawaiian Airlines are offering mail to order kits so I would do that. I wouldn't be too put off by the pre-travel testing. If you're test results don't come back in time, then I would say the airlines would allow you to change your flight but best to ask. Andaz Maui is great. I've stayed there before. Love Wailea. You should check out my Maui video. Hawaiian Airlines first class is good too. You'll have a great time in Maui. Def go to Mama's Fish House!

    Thanks for the seat tip! I actually booked 11A because of you for my trip in 2 weeks. :) But question, if there is no place for your smaller carry on in front of you, where did you put it? Ah! This made my night! Nice score! Yep, I put my carry on suitcase and travel bag up top and put smaller items (like my phone, headphones, sanitizer, wipes, etc) in the little net pocket right in the front. This is such a good seat. If I have a connecting flight in LAX from HNL do I need to get tested in Hawaii in order to take a flight in LAX? I just didn't know if you needed to be tested in order to get on a flight that is not your final destination

    • @SophiesTravelSecrets
      @SophiesTravelSecrets  3 года назад

      Hi Jeanine, thanks for reaching out. I would recommend contacting the airlines to make sure we are up to date with current practices, but what I do believe is that you only need to take the pre-travel test when entering the state of Hawaii to avoid the 10 day quarantine. You don't show your test results until you land in Hawaii, thus you could be on a plane with some travelers who may have not chose or didn't have time to take a pre-travel test 72 hours prior to their flight. It would be up to each state (California) or your final destination if you need to take a covid test before entering. At this time, California does not require this but always best to check each state's travel requirements surrounding covid. When is your trip to Hawaii?

      Thought also to mention that starting Dec 15 Hawaiian Airlines announced they were stopping to block middle seats. If you are traveling with someone else that will be seated next to you, you should be fine as the plane is a 2-4-2 layout
