You are an innovative man John Walker! I really appreciate your creativity in tackling these challenges. Thank you again for sharing (and thanks for inventing the Hinge Tamer - love mine!).

This is brilliant in its simplicity. Was looking for a way to be able to quickly swap an awning back and forth between 2 vehicles, but still have it be secure. Bet this will cost me less than $20 including stainless steel carabiners for the top 🎉

Just what I was looking for. Way more economical compared to $100+ for the ironman mounts. I'll probably use flat steel over aluminum for my backer and cut some tubing as spacers.

It will be a lot easier to find steel of the right dimension and the tubing while being more work will make a better end result. The only real advantage over the steel is weight.

Where did you get the mount itself? (The one that's wrapped in heat shrinking tubing) Did you make that yourself or did it come with your awning? If you made it, what type of metal did you use? Steel? Home Depot?

It’s an Ursa Minor awning mount. I got it with the top.

Well done John. I may try this with my new top before I go for a set of the Ironman mounts. Question: How thick is the aluminum strap you used? Hard to tell if they are 1/8 or 1/4 thick.

They were 1/8” as I recall but I’ll sure check the next time I can and pm you.
