So sad. My dad was a Jersey city fire captain. And as a small child you never know about the dangers of his job. No one ever talks about it. My dad was lucky and made it to retirement. All fireman are my hero’s. And my dad especially. I miss my dad so much.
May perpetual light shine upon all their souls.

May those brave men be at peace it's never easy when brother and sister fire fighters or even cops when they lose one of their own it's hard I'm no new Yorker but if I was I'd thank each and every man and woman serving that department for their service it means the world to first responders when they get thanked and loved on by the public they deserve it they have intense training but it's well worth it I've had some fire department training but nothing compared to what New York or Chicago fire departments train their fire fighters

Thank you for sharing this documentary. A lesson learned for all firemen....take note of building construction in and around your district.

I remember when this happened. I was a firefighter at Independent Engine Company #93 in Red Bank, NJ, at the time. I also recall being in a house in FDNY. Saw pieces of this structure and was told these were pieces of the supermarket where the 6 firefighters died. It was being investigated as a arson case so I was told.😢😢😢 RIP in piece my brothers.

I only got through half of this and was already getting frustrated. Here's the deal. 1. The officers in every city have to no the basic structures of the buildings in their cities, no matter the size. 2. You do NOT fight structure fires from the roof. You do not vent buildings from the roof. 3. You stay off the roofs of burning buildings. 4. If they knew about the structure of those building, which they should have through routine inspections, they would have known this was a death trap, and being inside or on top of it was a bad idea. 5. I would bet my life they were using straight streams to apply water, which do not cover enough material to stop combustion like a fog pattern would. 6. That means while they were in and on this structure, they were allowing it to burn and spread. That's, USA firefighting for you.

Once again JB who has never been inside a fire has chimed in to give his professional advice, maybe he should just give advice about what it feels like to buy an old firehouse to live in or what matching bracelets feel like !

      1. This was 197fucking8 ya noodge, things were a lot different back then. For one thing, the practice of venting from the roof wasn't ceased until after the Hackensack Ford Dealership fire in 19EIGHTY8. 2. You're a noodge. 3.
