When Forbes claimed there are 19 Billionaires in Africa, I just laughed so hard. If you count the billionaires in dollars in Nigeria, 19 is just scratching the surface. Dangote may not even be on the list of the top 3. Some of them lay low because they do not want to be known for some reason

There are many Nigerians with English / non-Nigerian surnames. Some of them are descendants of once enslaved people that returned to Nigeria after they regained their freedom while others just decided to change their surname for reasons best known to them.
The richest people in Nigeria are Nigerians not foreigners like in some other African countries. The west blackmail us with bad press simply because we don't bow to control, we simply have to build our economy by ourselves. Nigeria is a country with minimal foreign interferences - and it's good. We are getting somewhere, and it's good for Africa!
If you want to see more of the European/Christian names, you'll find them more in the Niger Delta region, especially in states like Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and to an extent in Lagos state as well. The majority of the families in the video are either Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa, besides the Briggs family that is Ijaw and the Igbinedion that are Benin(Aka Edo). In the area where the Briggs are from(Niger Delta region) you will hear more of British sounding surnames.
I’m from Rivers state, Nigeria and English surnames are very common here. My last name is Roberts and I have friends with surnames like Pepple, Bruce and Jumbo. My dad says we got our name because our ancestor was enslaved by a man named Robert. Hence, Roberts as in Robert’s, property of Robert.

The reason why some old families have English names is cause some of them were given those name by their Colonial masters, most times because the colonialist couldn't pronounce the native names. In Cross River and Akwa Ibom for example, some natives names have taken on different pronunciations and spellings because the colonial masters pronounced them that way.... Abasi for example became Bassey. Sometimes slaves bore their owners names... Horsfall, Briggs, etc. Other times they were given by their masters or in honour of their masters. This doesn't count for all though
A lot of Nigerians have English and Spanish names, they are mostly freed enslaved people that returned to Nigeria. The order of this least is not correct, many of those family are not top 100 anymore but still quite rich. @@TheDemouchetsREACT Most of the freed slaves settled in Lagos and the regions of the minority tribes of the Niger Delta. Besides the ones that settled in Lagos the other ones in the areas of the minority tribes are not really talked about. Nigeria is structured in a way that, once you are not a member of the big three tribes (Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo), its difficult for you to be popular. During the late 1800s after the abolition of slavery, many former slaves who still remembered their tribes and had saved enough money found their way back home to West Africa, some who did not know their origins settled in freetown Sierra-leone, Monrovia Liberia etc . However due to the fact that more slaves were taken from the present day southern Nigeria, mostly the Igbo and Yoruba and these tribes especially the Yoruba took their customs into slavery, it was easy for these two tribes to have more returnees as they were called. There are no 25 richest people in Nigeria, they are the ones measured by the West and as they keep the story going it helps them with their scam charity organizations. Drop the poor and rich foundings, and think about Nigerians as people who love to be happy. If you are happy, you are rich, if you have your own and can provide for your family, you are rich, if you can take care of your parents at old age, you are rich. Again wealth is not measured in Nigeria like the West, if you goto Nigeria with mindset that they are poor, they will agree with you and ask you for money. Nigeria do not have richest or poorest, everyone see each other as the same. In Nigeria, you got to be careful how you treat people or you will get the whole Nigeria coming for you. The West tried to impose their wealth mindset on Nigeria but they are whom they are. Don't call or see a Nigeria poor, you will regret it. West and Nigeria are not the same, the world is not the same and God did not create the world to be the same.
fun fact the head of the Tinubu family, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the current president of Nigeria
hope this helps
Illegitimate president who robbed Nigerian people's mandate in a broad daylight. He's a civilian coupist. Nigerians didn't vote for him. He captured the country by buying the corrupt government instuitions.
So, sit this one out.
