  • Our perfect bottom bouncer rod and reel preference for catching walleye this summer. Bottom bouncers and either plain snells or spinners catch so many walleyes for us through the summer.
We go over the preferred rod action and why we choose this specific rod action when using bottom bouncers. An ideal rod action is a seven foot medium extra fast action that has enough power to hook fish in the rod holder and power out of snags. Too soft or moderate of a rod will often snag up more.
We also show why we prefer a low profile bait casting reel and why a line counter is useful with bottom bouncers. Our ideal bottom bouncer reel has a flipping switch for adjusting depth with one hand and also a right and left handed option for holding two rods.

Rod should not have the segmented butt end, that’s a casting rod, makes it difficult to get out of the rod holder

@@everettconway6171 suppose it depends on the rod holders. I haven’t had any issues sliding them out.

@@pb-ki3nx I often use 10 lb. Fireline but I do have some friends that prefer 10 lb. mono with a more moderate rod.

Random question but do you know of any rods that have larger guides to reduce freezing? I winter shore fish in MN quite a bit and always battle the guides icing up. Usually pitching 1/8- 1/4 oz jigs w plastics. Thanks for any info.

@@pb-ki3nx I have dealt with that as well. Crazy as it sounds go with a cheaper rod. Most cheap rods have larger and heavier guides. Also start using almost strictly monofilament. A cheaper rod with mono is not going to be as sensitive and some anglers have a problem with that. There is something to be said however for developing a sense of touch or feel. You don’t need a sensitive rod if you are dialed into the right touch.

I tried the links for the rod and reel you were using but it did not take me to the exact black rod and the reel link did not work. Can you put in a model number and specs for reel and rod at scheels thanks.
