It’s refreshing to see a guy who doesn’t need to impress with hardcore survival skills. One doesn’t have to punish themselves to enjoy nature. If you’re wanting to broaden your horizons and camp in true untouched prairie, may I suggest the Nebraska national forest outside Halsey, NE. The eastern third is an unnatural, man made forest and is by far the most popular for guests. The western two thirds is relatively untouched prairie in the Nebraska Sandhills. I did a three day hike/camp through there several summers ago. You’ve inspired me to plan another in the future.
@@CampfireandForkenjoy the Sandhills. They’re a different breed of nature but can provide great photography opportunities. Late spring is the best time to visit them in my opinion. Summers can be pretty brown if they’re in a drought. If you hit the national forest in Halsey, I recommend spending a night or two in the western third where it’s truly wild prairie. The only man made structures you’ll see are windmills which are a godsend as water without them is quite limited. Check in with the ranger station and they can give you the lowdown of what you’re getting yourself into.
Thank you! I’ve driven through the Sandhills and I was a little intimidated and thrilled by the prospect to hike there. You’ve given me good advice on how to begin safely.
Excellent video. I like watching camping channels not to far from me. The creek water, when I was a kid I used to walk by a creek close to the farm. Got thirsty? I would take a little drink right out of it. Never caused me any harm. I ca no still remember what the water tastes like.
I’ve just recently have watched a few of your videos. So far I enjoy the way you put them together. I love seeing new areas for possible camping not too far from me and ideas of what and how to cook good food while camping. I’m in Southern IA, not really too far from where your snacks were made and I’m hoping to get out a lot more weekends in 2025. I love camping because nature, no hotel cost, and saving money cooking instead of restaurants; affordable way to go on a “vacation” .
@@CampfireandFork I’ve never heard of it (I’m not originally from Iowa), but I’ll have to look it up. I find it difficult to find places that aren’t geared towards RV’s packed together with no scenery. It seems the state parks that still have primitive camping, the sites are on a major hill that don’t work well for a tent.
Don’t listen to knuckleheads like this. Video was great. Don’t understand why every troll needs to comment when they don’t like something. Keep doing you brother.
Ah man. I was hoping for camping and nature. Seems like a lot of these "outdoors" channels now a days. 40% music soundtrack. 40% cooking channel.10% beer, gear, cigar, or snack review. 10% actual camping...
Loving these videos so far
Thank you!
Great shots at the end, thanks for posting.
Thank you!
Great still photos!
Thank you!
You rock Mr Meyer, thanks
Thank you!
@ you’re very kind

Thank you very much! I’m planning a trip to the Sandhills this summer. I’m happy I inspired you. Your kind note inspires me to keep doing my videos.

Thank you very much! The Loess Hills in Iowa are beautiful! You were a lucky kid to run around there, drinking from the streams.
@@CampfireandFork yes, yes I was, lucky and dumb. Luckly I never got ill.
Great video, keep on getting "Out of the House" ! ! ! !
Thank you!!!

Thank you very much! I love camping in southern Iowa, too! There’s a spot near Braddyville I camp that I adore!

It’s difficult to find good wild camping spots. But don’t give up! They are out there. Maybe a Facebook page where we share our hidden gems is needed.
I am new here and so glad I found you, thanks for letting me tag along.
Thank you! 🙏
Excellent video! Just subscribed. I sure would like to make it to that state park to hike and camp some time.
Thank you. I strongly recommend going there. It’s very beautiful.
Peace! You pitched a fine camp. I just wish you had some sort of oven along to melt and brown the cheese on the Shepherd's Pie.
Thank you and I wish I had a backpack oven too!
Careful,sometimes zombies are around
I’m always vigilant for zombies!
@ atta boy
Amazing work on this video! I loved every part of it. As someone who also shares content, I found this particularly engaging. Sub & 👍

Hi Eric,I just submitted to your channel Happy New year brother and what was you intro music at the very start of your video brother ?
Thank you. I tried looking up the artist. However, the music comes from my editing software and doesn’t offer a description.
Actually I’m more afraid of bears
No bears in Iowa
@ didn’t know that
@ I’m not exactly Einstein
Sorry jeilx. .why have expectations?? Go in either none and relax
Got it!
Loud, jarring, annoying music, I'll pass.
You’re right. I’ll do better.
Could have passed on the rude annoying comment. You trolls are all the same.
Oh and turn your volume down if it is too loud

Yeah just give up, this is trash
Thank you for your honesty. You’re correct, I’m not particularly fond of this video. I’ll do better.
And your felt the need to troll...says slot about who you are. How many subs you have?

I find nowadays "camping" videos are just promotional videos. No real outdoor essence.
Y'all need to chill
Thanks for your honesty. I’ll adjust and do better.
Can you do better? Start your own channel then.
What do you do while camping?
