If you have JJ vs an agressive big stack that opens light and a small stack shoving for 4,5 bigs. ( you have 23 BIGS) then make it 6,5 big and you can easy fold with 15 bigs left to a 4 bet.
CrossBreed played incredibly well in the HU. But for example in 2:32:17 you want to just call there pre rather than raise with QQ. He made that mistake a few times during the HU.
I mean he did spike a 6 outer twice in HUGE pots when it was 5 handed and less. Didn't play either of those KQ hands really well and was just lucky. And then the KQ vs KT vs masterryan when again the king hits on the turn and gives him a great spot.
quite amazing that a player with a 1 year old account and almost no heads up experience played fairly precise and never got out of line. almost like he was being backseated
I’m not sure if that’s true, but I will say: Around the 500k Blind level (hours before Day 2 breaked); he won like a 12M pot vs “themasteryan” with AQo vs 1010 getting a Q on the river. I’m a total “fish” who just recently committed to watching/listening poker content (and utilizing a HUD), but my ONLY big cash ever ($700 for 2nd); I only got to the final table by winning AQo vs KK (Ace on the Turn) -- I went into the FT 7/9 and navigated my way HU and got it in for 2/3rd of chips with like 44 vs 1010. The “hard” part is constantly winning and getting a big stack. (IMO***) once you reach the final table…you just play ABC poker and try to make Final 3 and split a deal
I didn’t watch this whole thing, but I know people pointed out he got lucky multiple times -- I’m thinking he “ran good” like that on Day 1 and 2 as well; whereas “normal” people like me NEVER “run good” -- losing 90%+ hands, and Ace high literally holding every 60-40…
Yeah honestly IDK what I’d do if I lost a HUGE pot in a Tourney I’d likely never run deep in again… I usually don’t tilt (and I can do well with a short stack utilizing basic shove-or-fold ranges), but it would definitely suck. Mind you I will say: I’ve only recently started watching Online/in-person content, and I might start playing 2-4 weekends a month while getting acquainted with my HUDs, and be the best version of a Micros “grinder” that I can be. I only have the “88” badge to show for Years of very casual playing, but I think immersing myself in poker content and playing consistently on weekends could see my next several Years be more productive instead of Passive for so long
Back on topic, though: I do get what you’re saying. Supposedly “CrossBreed17” is a semi-pro (?), but he definitely seemed more astute in such a MASSIVE situation. As a Canadian; I was rooting for “themasteryan” ever since he lost 12M and was cut down to 2M in the AQo>1010 River Q hand, but 4th is quite good (BUT him and others kinda played as you’d expect (?), so maybe Cross had some back-seat drivers real-time coaching him lmao…)

it could be fine. it is +cev by a lot, you are not jamming into cev calling ranges. dunno how it works, it honestly seems good as the clear shortest stack. I think most players get too scared by the big stack being left to act, and not focus on how the 20bb stacks have to call super tight.

I find it hard to believe that no one at PokerStars plays like this, taking home the biggest prizes in tournaments, maybe not the first place so as not to attract attention, but places with good prizes, and I'm not saying this by chance. I've seen chip leaders play, paying absurd hands and, curiously, taking home pots without any logic. Anyone in that position would take advantage and do it, easy money... it would be stupid not to.
