- Meet my Argentine, black and white Tegu monitor lizard in today’s Creature Feature! (Salvator merianae).
Hey Creatures!
Today you get to meet Terry. Terry is a rescued, black and white, Argentine Tegu. He was dumped at a pet shop with severe disabilities. A colleague of mine and I picked him at from that pet shop years ago and he used to live at home with me. He now lives at my workplace in a nice, big habitat.
Terry is now retired from doing educational shows, because he’s an old man, but I thought I’d share him with you!

Daniel Jordan it is very evident that Terry trusts her and adoes her. I love how he closes his eyes in bliss.
That’s amazing how that lizard really loves you. It shows on his face and how he closes his eyes and smiles when you cuddle him. I have never seen a reptile with such personality . Neat!
this is actually very common among Tegus...so much that poeple call them the "puppydogs of reptiles" these lizards will come when they are called and actually go out of thier way to be handled.
They dont really love you, its very confusing but they display affection in a very different way
Poor Terri. I'm glad he is able to live out the rest of his life in dignity and comfort.

Tegus are the BEST. I feel so bad whenever I have to dig my big male out of the burrow that he's sleeping in haha

If your tegu burrows on the dirt maybe he was trying to hibernate, if you don't let your tegu hibernate for at least 3 months (they can easily stay 7 months without eating anything) then the tegu would live for less years than it should live, next time just leave it there on his hole if it's truly hungry it will came out of it naturally when he's hungry.

@@kromantik9589 No es una plaga, pero no son animales domésticos, son animales salvajes, y merecen estar en su habitat natural donde pertenecen. Esta bien, la chica del video tiene uno que fue rescatado, pero hay casos en que simplemente son extraídos del lugar del que corresponden para llevarlos a hogares como si fuesen gatos, y no lo son.

He is adorable....he is well loved and he loves his head rubs and he tastes the air but when he was in the cat round....I also loved watching him enjoying his egg....his eyes would kind close he seemed to enjoy it....and he seemed like a long furless kitten....he is cool

Ahhh I always loved them!! The title of the video caught my attention since Im from Argentina and discovering new things about the fauna is cool and stuff. But I didnt recognize this little fella by the name, I feel awful :P ! In here, at least in my family circle, we tend to call them ''lagarto overo''. Never knew why, tho! I cant find an translation for it on english haha. Anyways, your content is really interesting and the way you narrate everything is cool
Because they eat eggs maybe?. Huevos in Spanish, ovos in Portuguese. We have them in the majority of Brazil's territory and maybe that's why haha

I'm happy terry's previous family realized they werent caring properly for him, hes a beautiful creature and looks super happy.

Oh, I do believe I feel flutters in my chest, looking into the face of such a handsome gentleman! When my kids were young, we used to spend a lot of time at my best friend's home, "R" was more of a kid than my own kids sometimes and he had actually closed in his dining room and turned it into a Lizard's Dream Home, with trees, native plants..when he did something like that he went ALL out! He had 2 of these gorgeous critters and the last time we were there, the older one was bigger than Terry. He also had 2 exotic birds..I can't remember exactly what they were (unfortunately I was never much of a bird-lady), but he was unable to care for them adequately and donated them to the rescue/rehab/retirement park I worked at for a few years.
I'd love to have a Terry...and Leela needs a "pet" other than the mice she keeps befriending, feeding and bringing into our bed. She didn't get the memo about cats & mice. 😭🙄

A few weeks ago we went to a reptile rescue and they told us that they had a tegu a few years ago that died shortly after they took him in because he had been eating FRIED CHICKEN all his life and had really fatty, oversized liver 😭😭
