The municipality of Sonsbeck with the associated villages of Sonsbeck, Hamb and Labbeck is located on the lower Lower Rhine far away from mass tourism. The municipality has around 8,600 inhabitants and is also known as the "Green Pearl of the Lower Rhine". The municipality is located on the western border between the district of Wesel and the district of Kleve, 8 km south-west of Xanten, 11 km north-east of Geldern and 17 km south-west of the district town of Wesel. The first settlement of Suangochesboch was established near a residential castle. Sonsbeck soon developed into a place of pilgrimage. According to legend, the priest Gerebernus was the tutor of an Irish king's daughter Dymphna at his court in the 6th/7th century.
