This is called Power Metal and is usually characterised with more operatic vocals on top of dramatic instrumentation with fantasy/historical lyrics. It's debated whether Iron Maiden counts as Power Metal because, while they hit pretty much every hallmark, they're more known as simply Heavy Metal (to me, that's not a good argument). And if I do recall, you weren't exactly a fan of their song Run To The Hills, probably for the same reason. Dragonforce are essentially Iron Maiden on steroids.
This song became famous primarily through its inclusion on Guitar Hero. The Asian guitarist is Herman Li...and he’s a beast. Super talent for these guys.

I've seen a few people have the same issue you did about the music and vocals not clicking, and it's almost always because they're listening through computer speakers instead of headphones, so you're just hearing the craziness of the music, but not the melodies in the music itself. Maybe give headphones a shot.
I just had the same idea and made a comment about it before I saw your comment! I'd definitely recommend to anyone that they listen on headphones or nice full sized speakers if they're finding the vocals harsh

There's a lot going on in this song so it can be hard to keep up with the vocals and music together. The more you hear the song it becomes easier to filter both. Great song but I feel that DragonForce and a lot of the newer power metal bands are just in competition to see who can play their instruments the fastest. Fun song to play on guitar hero 💪!!!

I get you on the clashing of vocals and the instrumental.
You have basically super complex lyrics/Emotional singing. And then you have the raw symphonic arppagiotic melody with dual key harmonics.
It gets overwhelming on the first listen through. Just give it a chance on its own withouy the reaction setting. And think of it as a story book being turned into a song.
It'll click so hard then trust me brother.

I have an issue with power metal and symphonic metal for the same reason: there’s too much a difference between the vocals and the instrumentation. That’s not to say it’s not good, but it’s just not for me. Unleash the Archers are the only exception, for me.
Reaction suggestion: Meshuggah - Bleed live (or Clockworks Drum cam). It's extremely heavy metal, and considered by many to be the origin of "djent" (though the band themselves don't like the term).
Meshuggah use a lot of polyrhythm in their songs (one instrument counts to 4, another counts to 5, for example). Try and count along while listening, and make sure to have a window with the lyrics open, otherwise it's impossible to understand (for a new listener)
The opera style vocals definitely gets some getting used to but once you get over the weird mixture of the vocals and the instruments you really learn to appreciate the song. Im over my dragonforce faze but there was a few months 2 or 3 years ago where I listened to them nonstop. I didn't like them at first but after listening to them 2 or 3 times I remember just falling in love with their sound. Also, just FYI they cut out like 2 minutes of solos in the music video. The actual song is like 7 minutes long.

As for the vocals, I get what you mean. Zee's voice might not be sitting well in the mix for you. Are you listening on proper speakers? (not laptop ones) Even still, you may just simply not like his vocal sound. I don't either, to be honest. He's gone from the band now, and they have a new guy who in my opinion, is a little too nasal sounding (though he's also a great singer who can really hit the notes)

The song itself is not that good with 80s style hair metal singing. What made the song famous was being the toughest song on Guitar Hero. The speed guitars are fantastic.
