I think it's probably best to leave the canning shelves somewhere else. It's best to store home canned goods away from light. Your momma corner is beautiful 😍

I would also vote for putting the canning shelf somewhere else. I said the same thing when the idea was to have open shelves in the current kitchen storage area. They can look beautiful but they can also look cluttered. A lot of sunny days and hot weather and sun on them also a lot of dust and many things to wipe etc. I wouldn't give it up completely but maybe move into the basement kitchen and have a canning art wall down there...Just thoughts

My mother and grandmother always stored their canning in colder, darker areas. I am 71 years old and they started canning back in the 1930’s and I always trusted their advice in that area. For better preservation keep them in the basement. Maybe a wall where you celebrate the current upcoming holiday. You can still have the shelves put up and use them well. The couch in front of the window blocks the view of the yard and the kids. Much better to see the kids.

You could then add a small table to set your tea down, etc. do t block those windows - you’ve set them up beautifully with your plants and stained glass. Also, if you have canning supplies that you love but maybe don’t use as much or antique jars, etc maybe you could add those treasures for a lovely canning wall display? Maybe some antique canning glass or treasures might satisfy that wish. It looks so lovely!

I have a large dark storage area for my canning in my pantry room in my basement. The upstairs canning storage would only be for items we are currently quickly working through. I have friends who have to store their canning in their kitchen because they have no other place to put it and their items are exposed to light. Their long experience has shared that their items are fine as long as they use them within 6 to 9 months. My upstairs canning area would not be for everything, again only for items I’m quickly working through. Thank you so much for watching and I appreciate your thoughts!

I had a bunch of leftover peppers and onions from a big pile I got from a farm. I was able to just dice them all and put in large bins. Once my freeze dryer lineup was finally done, it was easy enough to load up the trays from those frozen bins. They don't really stick together which is super handy.

I can see you getting a lot of enjoyment out of the chair. You could always send the couch back and get another chair just like it. A pair would be so cozy and you could find a vintage pie safe or a cabinet for canned goods to put in between them, or a little coffee table with a shelf underneath and put jars there. You could also buy a large three tier thing to put in the center of your island and keep a selection of your canned goods on it. I have a shelf in the back corner of my counter with usually 6 or 8 jars on it and I sometimes have two or three areas with jars.

You could put the canning shelf in kitchen and put a cover over it to block light, with a zipper closure or something like that. There is some real cute fabric out there or even put some art on it. When I see the couch by the window and you in your beautiful chair (with a small table next to you for your coffee mug or water tumbler) I see you reading to 3 or 4 of your kiddos (Narnia or Secret Garden) or reading the Bible. It’s such a cozy space!!! I see you talking to friends in that space too!!

I think it’s going to look too cluttered in your kitchen if you put canning shelves up. The couch looks best in front of the windows and the chair by the coffee maker. I would put a table in between the couch and chair with a lamp on it and move the floor lamp to the other end of the couch by the door. Just a suggestion.

I really like the idea of the chair, maybe a round rug and a small area for your grand baby to sleep if you’re keeping her while moving around in the kitchen. I feel like the couch kind of overwhelms the area. But I do love the idea of long wooden shelving like 3 rows to have canning on. OR if possible the wooden open shelves closer to the stove area and maybe a smaller couch in the chair area. The possibilities are endless! 🥰

I’ve always thought canning jars are to be stored in darkened storage closet! I like the chair & sofa! Your kitchen is beautiful ❤️🙏🤗

Yes, I have a dark storage area in my basement for my canning. But I want an upstairs area for items I’m currently quickly working through 👍🏻❤️

I like the idea of two pretty chairs. Wouldn't take up as much room. Or a loveseat and your chair. Most people are uncomfortable sitting 3 on a couch anyway.

I love the couch in front of the window with your chair in the corner near the end of the kitchen countertop. Absolutely ❤️ it! I think that will function best for you & your family. Plus, it is such a pretty, cozy view looking over from your kitchen. Plenty of room for kids to sit while you work in the kitchen, more space for other friends to hang out for visits, a perfect spot for your mama chair & you can still sit and see out your window. Also it’s just the most aesthetically pleasing configuration! Wish my kitchen was big enough for that set up! So happy for you!

I think the couch is too big for the area. A matching chair and small table would work better. Love the colour and pattern of chair though. This is too bright of a room for canning shelves.

Return the couch and get another one of those comfy chairs. It’s a nice spot to sit and chat with Travis early mornings or at the end of the day. Add a little table between them. The light from the windows is wonderful. Keep the canning jars in a cool dark place and let the chicken sisters keep an eye on your kitchen!

The sofa and chicken wall hanging look really good on that wall. The window is to beautiful to cover . I like your lamp and have the same one. The print on your Momma's chair looks great facing the chicken wall hanging. Your kitchen is so bright and beautiful.

Jamerill, thanks so much for taking us through the messy, not-yet-done stuff! It makes me feel less crazy when I go through those periods and feel like a failure. Everything’s coming along so so well!
Would you ever think about writing a parenting book? Or do you recommend any? I’m a first time pregnant gal w baby girl on the way! It seems you parent so gently and lovingly and though I definitely want to honor God w how we parent, sometimes I feel Christian parenting books are really harsh. Maybe just what I’ve come across? But I want to love my kids so similar to how it seems you do!

For another thought that cute wooden love seat in the mini kitchen would look great in the new kitchen with your new chair(s). Maybe have it painted in your favorite kitchen color put a beautiful cushion on it. This would still look great on the wall where your canning jar wall will be. Worth the thought I think.

While I understand your trying to please everyone. There's only so much furniture ya can fit in one new room. Two comfy mammy chairs with a small round table might fit. I think it looks grand. The only problem I'd have is moving furniture to clean.

I have plans for a canning jar quilt. That could fit where your dream of canning racks. And..
Travis doesn't have to do woodworking. Lol. If you have quilters in your area, might look into it.
