@@buddatreenight of the end is a great episode but I don’t think it comes close to the same kind of tension that midnight sun or children of the forest evoke given that we know at that stage that these characters will all come together, in season 3 the tension of the choice is outstanding and in this ep the tension is crazy throughout and then crescendos as eren and Floch walk in
If anyone is interested in my personal takeaway from this episode: The knife itself represents the ‘knife’ that’s passed around in the cycle of hatred. It’s something you CHOOSE to pick up and is also something that you can make the choice to put down. Sasha chose to shoot the Marleyan soldiers as retaliation for Paradis. In turn, Gabi picked up the rifle to avenge her home and killed Sasha. Out of grief over losing Sasha, Niccolo picks up the knife to exact revenge on Gabi and offers it to Mr. Blaus. However, Sasha’s father doesn’t *want* to continue the cycle of hatred so when the knife came into his hands, his wisdom helps him make the deliberate choice to put it down. The entire episode shows that the cycle of hatred is something that is spurred on by choice. If an adult makes the decision to put the knife down and break the cycle, communication and peace, however slim, becomes a possibility. In a way Eren’s “If you don’t fight, you can’t win” and Armin’s “Those who can’t sacrifice anything, can’t change anything” philosophies both apply here. If neither side can step forward and make the first attempt at communication, the possibility for peace will remain exactly as it is: nonexistent. Similarly, those who can’t bring themselves to sacrifice their pride, personal vengeance and grievances, ambitions, etc. and put down the knife, won’t ever be able to break the perpetual cycle either. That last scene with Kaya shows the importance of ‘keeping the kids out of the forest’ because you are shown firsthand just how easily children are pulled into the cycle of violence and how easily a cycle that is broken, can be kicked off again. The knife that was finally put down, is immediately picked up again in an act of violence because a child has a much easier time understanding her hurt feelings from her loss, over the consequences of her actions. That’s why it’s the responsibility of adults to make sure children won’t have to find themselves in situations where they feel as though they need to pick up a knife, and to teach them that even if they are presented with one, picking it up would be a fruitless endeavor that ultimately does more harm than good.
8:35 had me so dead. in the middle of all the commotion, jeff randomly goes "i dropped my glasses back there". i literally could not breathe i was laughing that hard
The intensity of emotion from this episode makes it one of my top episodes of AoT. The fact that everyone watching knew all the connections to Sasha. Sasha is gone, but her character is still paying massive dividends to the show. This is why AoT is my only S tier show.
It's a great episode. Tied a lot together and got most of the main cast in the same location effortlessly. Good job catching on to the win and how prominent it became.
I never thought about it this way before, but it's one of my favorite theories, because it was a bit quirky for me to hear Sasha say 'meat' as the last thing.
It's a fun little myth, but that's all it really is. Something about the Japanese, but in the manga the word used is "meat". The form of it, Kanji, apparently denoted a full word, meaning no continuation to it. Otherwise, it would have been used in a different form instead of Kanji and likely with an ellipsis after it. All to say she really was just saying meat.
Though I like that theory, still have to say it just doesn't work in Japanese. Just as other comments said, the manga used kanji(肉) here. If Isayama-san was trying to create some ambiguity here, he would have used kana instead of kanji. But even in kana, niku(meat) and nico is still written in different forms(にくand 二コ).
I’ve been binging these reactions for a week and now I’m sad because I caught up and have to wait for more! 😭 You two are so entertaining but also deep with the thoughts and emotions. I’m definitely subscribing and going to watch other reactions you’ve done. So glad I found this channel!
Such a great episode, this is where they all start to realize that the idea of us vs them is objectively inhumane and illogical, that everyone hurts and everyone loses people and everyone suffers regardless of race or beliefs or ideologies. A lesson Gabi really needed to learn, hope you guys enjoy her arc from here on out. Excited to see the rest of the reactions.
Guys you are not ready for what comes just telling ya 😂 love your reactions and i love how confused you are sometimes(most of the times) i was too but in a few episodes you will be even more confused this is the best show ever made and guys please in future when you really got nothing to do watch this show one more time. Only then you will understand everything(or most of the things). Sorry for bad english. Love from Romania ❤
I've been looking forward to your reactions to this episode! There are many exciting episodes of AOT after this, but I love “Children of forest” the most. Everyone must have felt like they were on an intense emotional roller coaster. We will continue to support you from Japan!
This episode is one of the most important of season 4. Mr. bruas states plainly the message of the whole show right there: unless we stop killing each other the cycle of violence will never ends. We need to stop or we'll juat pass on the hatred to the kids. It shows how you can see former enemies as human and find love there. Of course Armin comparing Gabi to Eren: "Kill this, kill that. You remind me if aomeone I know." Eren, since he was a kid just solves everything with "Kill, kill, kill". That solves nothing. It just perpetuates the cycle of violence.
Mr. Braus’s allegory about the forest will be used as a visual symbol pretty heavily as the season progresses. Keep it in the back of your mind as you see forests used as a setting, because season 4 has a lot of it.
Your reactions are always nice😂 the way the guy with glasses jumped and screamed at every unexpected moment is hilarious 🤣🤣 and the other guy got his eyes wide is also nice. Be ready to jump and scream with terror and joy for the other episodes😂😂😂
I love your reaction so much guys, you are my first and favorite reaction youtuber! Remember when i said i started watching aot because of you, because i'm addicted to your reaction after weak hero and binge watching to everything and still want more😆 and i'm not regretting it! Can't wait for you to react to the rest episode of aot :) sending you guys much love!❤
Finally children of the forest. When you've reached s4, i was more exciter w/ this episide reaction than the declaration of war and assault. And that was greaaaaaaatt. Your reaction is so damn like we all reliving the same experience for the first time. But still, as they always say, you are not ready w/ moreee.
I think this is my favorite of your AoT reactions and possibly my favorite reaction to this particular episode!! You guys are great ❤ I end up rewatching it all the time. 😊
what a rollercoaster of an episode. the Kaya x Gabi arc is prolly my favorite thing about the show. this is def 1 of the best episodes of the show for sure. #InErenWeTrust
Eren and Gabi are too completely different characters, eren is fighting for freedom, Gabi is fighting for the system that keep oppressing her people. One of there common trait is that they both have big fit of angry.
@@aledimas1980 when eren was gabi age, he didn't have any reason to become the best version of himself, he doesn't spent years of training to help his captives. All he wanted from a young age was freedom. And eren wasn't brainwashed into hating anyone. While Gabi is highly train soldier that is supporting her captives.
So may things to talk about this episode, sasha father , Zeke telling Levi he's not popular, floch character, and the best of it how Armin was telling Gabi about killing and Eren came in my god this episode is too much
The strongest thing about this anime is that as viewers we also question ourselves in relation to the feelings we might have had towards Falco and Gaby
They really good at making me hate Gabi so much. She keeps calling Eldian, witch, devils, demons even after what Kaya and her talk back at Kaya's village? Also glad Armin point it out after saying killing is all u talk about. Am glad Niccolo punch her. The satisfaction i felt.
Do you think Gabi forget that she also share the same blood as those Devils. And I have to disagree with you, Gabi deserve more than just a punch to the face.
@@j_castle9893 you say that, only because Isayama managed to get you to emotionally connect with Sasha. Which is the point. You only regard someone as your enemy when someone you care about gets killed by that person, not realising that on the other side of the wall, it's more or less the same thing. Especially when it involves a conflict involving victimised people. Which parallels to the real world as well. It's not normal that a child like Gabi gets brainwashed into hateful thoughts like that. But you won't be able to eliminate the cycle of hateif you choose to act violently on that hate. Revenge does not get you anywhere, except that one day, people might kill you out of vengeance as well. That's the point of Attack On Titan. Thus, Gabi doesn't deserve more than just a punch to the face. She, just as any child, deserves to be in an environment of love and forgiveness. We must let the children escape from the forest. And if you don't understand that Sasha's father's message is essentially Isayama's hopeful message, then I'm sorry, you didn't understand the show fully.
@@daniaaal damn i was not expecting two paragraph of why I'm wrong. I wouldn't say that Gabi k*lling sasha don't play a part in why I don't like Gabi. But Gabi is fighting so hard for the system that keep oppressing her people, she can prove to everyone that she is a good eldians but wouldn't change how other eldians are being treated. She is viewed as the strongest and smarter but can't seem to understand, that they all people. You are right about aot messages but if the world was more open to forgive they wouldn't have created eren. And if your going to get vengeance make sure to k*ll everyone attached to your target. And when I said a punch is not enough I meant it, but I did not say she deserve to be k*lled. She could get hurt a lot more or stayed in jail.

Nicolo's voice actor is amazing.
His pain and sadness are conveyed very well.
the restaurant scene always gives me goosebumps.. had myself watch niccolo's speech again with eng dub and it's just as beautiful and chilling..
This episode and Midnight Sun are probably my favorite episodes in this show. So tense and thought provoking
I gotta throw Night of The End in that mix, for those reasons precisely

Midnight Sun is peak. IMO the best episode of any show ever
I prefer s4 episode 20.

Sometime kid do horrible thing that we cant understand,
And when we know , so many bad thing happen after
Wow
@@xuanhiepluong4798 yes! I forgot to mention that adults and children can *definitely* exchange places in the cycle of hatred.
Makes the lyrics "All I ever wanted to do was save your life

Kaya's cry breaks me everytime 🥺
her grief never stops 😞
