Would like to know how she's doing ... 3 years later in 2020. Did she persist in her new lifestyle. Is she happy still with her decision to live on the road? Thanks.

I just signed the dotted line on a truck camper and a one ton diesel 4 x 4 last week. Well done Christine! I could have done many RV options but agree with your philosophy of being nimble and enjoying a simpler life in nature... yet still having the basic creature comforts! I'm pushing retirement so good for you for doing this earlier! Smart girl!!!
Thanks Bob for sharing inspirational folks like this with us viewers!

the one piece of advice i would want to pass on to christine would be to use the 2-chair 'trick' to make your campsite look like there is more than 1 person. otherwise, i love her set up!! it's really wonderful! good luck to you, christine!

It would’ve been better to buy a travato 59K because by the time you buy the truck and the trailer It’s almost the same price and you have a nice bathroom and you can park anywhere. They are really nice because the bathroom is in the back and nothings obstructing the view along the inside

I gotta tell ya Bob I'm addicted to watching your videos, bc I really really want to do this, live this way, but try telling my husband he doesn't agree.. Even though we are broke after paying 1000.00 month for rent , cable is 280$ , electric bill 260$ , car insurance, car payment 380$ , credit cards ( I have 5 ) , so when two people are disabled, but not in wheelchairs , we both love camping, no joke, after paying just our bills we are not only broke we are constantly overdrawn too.. I'm tired of it , I'm not happy, I have tons of stuff that doesn't make me happy , he just doesn't like change I guess idk what it is with him. our son and his family live in Florida , we never see him maybe once every two years, we live up north , I'm sick of just sitting here day in day out, so hopefully he'll think about it at least..I told him to get on UTUBE and subscribe to your channel , I told him how much he'll love watching the tours of rigs..still waiting.. we'll see, Thanks so much Bob for giving me the choice of not being stuck in life 😎

Tina Scott if you get rid of cable, you can save over $3k a year. If you listen to Dave Ramsey, he can help you with a strategy to pay off your debt and get a plan to have enough money to get you in the road. God bless you and your husband.

We retire in 5 mths just bought a small camper for our short box truck, it's also a lite camper. Come March 2021 we are hitting the road, selling off everything! We have no debt and decent pensions, hope to save for the future, or what comes our way! Getting solar installed another auxiliary battery/isolator.... We had planned on converting a van, but we had the truck and its 4x4. Camper same room as most vans!

Bob thank you. Your filming was really great on this video. The angles and absence of the home owner in the shot for the initial view of the home was refreshing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing them, but it is nice to see the rig unrestricted too. Thanks

  • @ijzerkoekie

This is great - just what I needed. I have been blessed to find in the middle of summer - a Hawk popup for a reasonable price and I can just fit all my necessities in there - clothes, dishes, computer and a few books and got it for the same reasons this great gal did - to be nimble and go places you can't go with other setups. The fact that she is doing what I am getting ready to do is super inspiring. I too want to work out of the camper as a writer. I also have a shower tent - that being the most annoying part of the setup - as I hate to go outside at night to do those necessities, but a class C or a trailer is just not going to work for going onto the back trails! I'm going to see if I can set it up to deal with the cold and stay up North through the cold months.

Talking about fear at the end- smaller is safer for a solo female than an Airstream trailer. Not only do you have more mobility and can get out faster, but you have access to your cab and don't have to risk going outside if push came to shove. I just had my first solo night in my new-to-me RV, and to be honest, even though I was at a sketchy Walmart, I was too tired to be scared! lol

I had a PU super cab with duel gas tanks and a 8 ft bed camper and no toilet with a portable fold up potty with plastic bags. Worked great for me. When I married my X wanted a 5th wheel so reluctantly traded in my PU camper for it and still to this day I wish I had kept it. I loved it so much and was so easy to go anywhere I chose without incident .

Although I am a lil nervous about working the propane, battery, toilet/shower n know very lil about the water system. Im looking for step by step videos for my specific needs but havent found really any. So i take notes on the closest issues i have. Seeing how comfortable, safe n confident this woman was in the video was so helpful. Thx

Bob, when you interview people with truck campers, I wish you would ask how often they separate the camper from the truck. What's more difficult breaking camp to run to town/site see with both, or leave the camper and use the truck by itself?

    • @OldePete
      @OldePete 7 лет назад +6

Thanks for the reply. What you describe is I kinda what I thought. The idea of setting up camp for like a week and separating (then re-connecting) the camper to use the truck separately seems like too much of a hassle to me; not to mention the stability of the camper sitting on the 4? jacks, with someone moving around inside, plus wind... doesn't seem too practical.

"Use 4WD to get UNSTUCK not Stuck" THAT is the best piece of off roading advice I have ever heard on RUclips. When I was a kid, we hunted a lot. My Dad bought a 1969 Ramcharger. I asked him why he didn't put big "mud grip" tires on it. He said "you'll just be 5 miles further from camp when you have to walk back." LOL.

Ever think of the portable five gallon water and self contained toilet with monitor system , easy carry and storable , dump tank very easy , would eliminate the nasty bucket and bag method or those shady restrooms especially at night . Cost factor around one hundred to two hundred dollars , many models to choose from . Nice shower setup , now just get a decent toilet .

I wish 4wheel campers made more of these - really cool! I also want a hard sided truck camper, but I am weight constrained. Not many options out there.

What does she mean, "I have air bags?" I assume not crash bags. She was talking about weight, I think. Love her set up. Plenty for me. Camping potty/shower is great. Plenty for me. As long as one moves around to the warmer climates, I don't see why it wouldn't be good year around. Wish we could have met her. Maybe, eventually. Thanks, Bob.

Suspension bags on rear axle to adjust & offset weight.

Vans sure do appeal to me because you can be stealth if you want/need to. But a bigger part of me wants to be out in deep nature, so 4WD could be a great option to have.
She seems like a cool fun person. Not many women like to backpack with a tarp for shelter.

You should remove the rear seat from cab if you're not toting passengers around = more storage

Your family's worry is just what's going to happen when it's your turn to host Thanksgiving dinner for twelve. lol

An idea for Christine would be to have an outside light (and maybe solar powered) on the side to be used if she has to get up during the night for the bathroom maybe.

So is Christine still in the camper full time?

Great setup. Never would have imagined how much room there is.
