This is one of the most REMARKABLE and BEAUTIFUL videos I've ever seen: The beginning of a violent storm, the storm in progress, and then the aftermath, a natural blessing!! I lived in Central FL for two years, and I've seen the violent storms and the breathtaking rainbows following them. I hated living in FL, but the storms and rainbows were unlike anything I've ever seen!
Thanks so much, Nathan!!! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. The camera is definitely amazing... and is proving its versatility more and more, each time I use it.
Thanks Evan! Glad you like it. I'm using the Sony HDR-FX1000, which employs their new "G" series professional lensing. I'm also using Hoya Pro-Digital filters on the camera.
Thanks, James! I definitely want to try and do more time-lapse scenes showing more of the complete life-cycle of a typical South Florida 'airmass' thunderstorm. I want to get something showing the development and progression of the precip core, like in your recent clip.
I love watching these storms in the summertime. I get an adrenaline rush when I see these storms develop. That's the one cool thing about south florida summers
Hi, Chayne. Thanks so much! The rainbow really was incredibly vivid... the best I've seen in a long time. And yeah, if there's a good intercept opportunity this season, maybe we can meet up.
Wow, I thought the rotation at :22 was also time lapse but clearly it isn't. Awesome as always. I saw this storm to the south of me as I was driving up to Orlando and I knew I was gonna miss out.
@TheAviator8 Thank you so much! This particular storm was severe warned, and did exhibit some characteristics typical of a mesocyclone. The broad area of rotation (with a few smaller areas of circulation), persisted for quite awhile... although it never produced anything tornadic.
Hi Noah. There was some fairly decent rotation with this cell (especially for South Florida), but it never produced a funnel. There was some rather ominous, and very low, scud rising rapidly towards the base (between 1:35 - 1:50) ... which looks "funnel like", but is completely harmless.

Considering I moved away from the South Florida, these are the things i miss most, thunderstorms, perfect for a afternoon nap, and as always the bright rainbow after a lazy afternoon nap, just like in the video.
Hi Jim. The rotation with this cell was definitely incredible, but it pales in comparison to what the June 5th storm looked like at it's peak! I really wish I had been better prepared to film that monster.
No, because raindrops disperse light under specific angles. Each wavelength of light has it's own dispersion angle. It's not a matter of altitude, it's a matter of dispersion angles. It takes too much text to explain this in a single comment, so just look it up in wikipedia or something. Search for dispersion (optics).
Damn, those dark clouds look just the same as some that struck my town here in England (Minus, the rotation). It was truly scary, I had never seen anything like it and I ran all the way home, and at hat time, running for me was quite hard to run down a street, because I was so unhealthy. But this is an amazing video! The rainbows right at the end are absolutely amazing!
thats my first view of Florida!! my boyfriends down there, and he was telling me about that rainbow in this vid. its absolutley beautiful...i wish we got rainbows like that here in Illinois!
I can't believe people think this is fake -.- They should teach some more optics and meteorology in schools. Impressive capture, keep up the good work!
That’s very interesting that one rainbow has a blue stripe at the top and the other rainbow has a red stripe at the top. I thought rainbows always had red stripes at the top and the blue-purple stripes were always at the bottom. You learn something new every day. 🌈
@green2lean No... there are no modifications to the colors in this clip. The only enhancing element was the Hoya polarizing filter that I was using on the lens, which gives the shots a bit more contrast.
Aren't you ever frightened by these powerful storms? I'm terrified of thunderstorms, so I never really saw their beauty until now :) Thank you for the videos!
I saw a double rainbow and thunderstorm clouds just about two days ago in Florida i was on my way to the store and as i got to the parking lot i saw that theere were two different rainbows it was an awsome and yet strange thing to see, thanks for the video whe this happens agian i will try to post some video or picture, also there's been heavy chemtrail in Florida since before Isaac and way after, i took a picture of the moon today i saw it yesturday about 9am and today close to 10am.
Yes, the first 20 seconds of this video are a timelapse of the developing pulse thunderstorms to the east and southeast of my location on the day of this severe thunderstorm. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Almost all rainbow is double.. The upper rainbow usually is hard to be seen .. (But this one is obvious) Truly awesome video.. Sorry for my bad English grammar.

Hi Forrest. The base price for the Sony FX1000 is right around $3200 (through B&H), though there may be more deals out there now.

That is a gorgeous rainbow!
@digitalwarfares This was shot on a Sony FX1000 with a Hoya 'pro-digital' polarizing filter.

Oh I know! Florida was my second home when I would be out of school for summer break. :) I had good times down there with my dad when he was alive.
What video camera was used to capture this footage? It is very good quality...
Great footage -the bass from the car passing gives it a nice haunted feel.

Great Storm, Michael! .. pannus that almost reaches the floor, wow!, and this rainbow is the spectrum that has seen more explicit :o

it’s cool how there’s 5 different colors going across the sky
wow, amazing footage! if you don't mind my asking, how much does this camera usually go for?
@31u Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Yes
Excellent video. Looks like you may have had a wall cloud going there for a bit.
the reason the clouds are lower here is because we generally have a higher dew points and humidity allowing clouds to form at a lower altitude
@green2lean No... there are no modifications to the colors in this clip. The only enhancing element was the Hoya polarizing filter that I was using on the lens, which gives the shots a bit more contrast.
very nice vib .......the clouds look very scary....very nice footage....topped up by the double rainbow......the colours shows up beautifully......
Awesome shots! We got caught on 836 during this thing. The airport disappeared for a moment there when the rain fell the hardest!
