What do you guys think? Will this auction make a big splash for CGC? Do these auction results matter at all for your perceptions of CGC grading? Does the "First ever graded game" thing matter? Oh, also, next time you are going to purchase something on ebay, remember to click this link first in order to directly help support the channel🎉: ebay.us/S0DWtC
I think CGC could become the market leader for a couple reasons. They have established a positive reputation in the card industry which already boosts the confidence of people that may want to consider them for game grading. WATA kind of screwed themselves when they were starting to gain traction and a portion of the community has lost trust in them. Even if WATA regains the majority of trust in the coming years, I think CGC has a one up on them pending a stellar auction turnout(s). Also agree with your comparison to VGA, they just don't market nearly enough. Even though myself and quite a few other collectors prefer VGA ascetically and their honest grading system, many games go for cheaper than you'd expect their crossed over WATA/CGC version to go for.
As we enter 2024, I just wish VGA would introduce some better pricing! At this point, I find it very hard to justify using them for anything except oversized/custom stuff... And it's a shame because VGA is very good at what they good and the case looks great. But those prices man.... Ugh.
THIS ridiculous! The Legend of Zelda contains a Lithium battery in the cart ! Did it ever occur those batteries could leak onto the PCB pass their expiration (5 years) ? Zelda is over 30 years !!!!
Who's to say it hasn't happened already? If any kind of internal damage is never evident to the outside of the box, it will forever be an unknown variable. It's possible the manual is completely creased inside, too. If that's enough for you to never consider buying certain sealed games, fair enough.
As of right now I think CGC is leading the race. Best customer service, price, turn around time and clean case. WATA has become more to the expensive side, a single copy with cleaning service will average above $100.00. I will not even mention VGA, that's not even on the competition any more, in my opinion.
Seeing different games in them the CGC cases are growing on me. I still don't own graded games and prefer the VGA esthetic, but CGC case labels look less "in the way" than I initially thought. In the end I think we'll have VGA for classic collectors, WATA for the investors, and CGC as middle ground and for those who have other items graded by them. New design WATA cases when? I honestly don't think "first game X" _should_ be enough to yell provenance, but that's just me. I'd rather want an actual first print stated on the label, or that a game was bought at a specific date, like Final Fantasy from 1990, and maybe even from a specific location (must be proven with receipt I guess). THAT is provenance to me. Imagine owning your fav game, from your old local media store, in your hometown which you miss so much. That would be something special :)
How it worked with the 1st ever graded is. CGC finds a collector in the community who is a known collector and gives him/her the privilege to pick whatever game they chose for that console to be sent in as the first ever graded. And it gets the label. It might had been 1 single person by the look at the coincidence all the 1st graded for various consoles show up. I know this because I was fortunate enough to be approached by them for a TCG and to be able to pick whatever card I want for that TCG as 1st graded Love your vids. New to game collecting here
I've got some CGC comics. My only issue is they've had issues historically of people getting grades from "friends" that work there a bit higher than what should have been given. Not alot, but it happened.
Even then, you shouldn't dismiss them as a buyer, as there is nothing to stop you cracking them open and sending them off to PSA. If the card is valuable enough to be worth it. Assuming their grades have a track record of being comparable to PSA.
Generally they are sent automatically to anyone who has bid or consigned in one of the auctions, but I think you can reach out and ask to be placed on the mailing list!
Hopefully others have had a better experience than me, CGC is taking forever, my games have been sitting in encapsulation/QC for over a month now, no movement. They also double charged my card for my submission and didn't apply the credit I should have received for their membership...all of this has been taken care of now and wasn't much of a hassle to get it done, just an annoyance really. Also I will add I only sent modern sealed games so things that really shouldn't take a ton of time to get back to me
Is there a good way to find prices for sold listings on other platforms that sell graded games? I have a 9.6++ Super Luigi U and wondering if I should change my approach since ebay has no sales.
Unfortunately, you kind of have to manually go to each platform right now and search their archives. Goldin and Heritage Auctions are the biggest right now. CertifiedLink also might have some. New tools are coming (soonish) though which will aggregate all of the sources!
Does a big yellow sale sticker in the middle of the games front effect the price in a bad way? I found a zelda game high grade but there's a huge yellow sale sticker right smack day in the middle of the game covering up some of the cover. Does this effect the price in a bad way?
It would affect the price only to the degree that it would affect the grade. What's the actual grade of the item? At times, a sticker removal can increase the grade which would increase the value, but sometimes the grade won't change regardless of the sticker. It sounds like your sticker is quite large, so it is almost assuredly affecting the grade of the game. Eye appeal of sticker vs no sticker could also be argued.
@@GetTheGreg hey thanks for the reply. I decided not to go for that one. And instead got a 9.4 with A+ seal of driver you are the wheel man instead, for the ps1. They could buy their own games or bid them up for a few hundres thousand and make millions and millions later on from the reputation. Graded gams is a really shady bubble.
I'm cynical about all this. Seems like it is beyond mere coincidence that CGC just *happened* to have all these bangers across systems land in their lap to be the first ones graded. First of all why were collectors sitting on these pristine mint sealed sought after games for all these years?!? Or did collectors decide to send in already top graded game Wata or VGA game to CGC to re-grade? That seems unlikely unless CGC promised them a top tier grade and 'first graded' designation on box to boost the value. Having said that I still hope CGC succeeds in longer term, but they seem to be doing the same grade inflation that both VGA and Wata were accused of as they fought to gain traction. I guess it's smart move though by collectors to send in games to CGC right now to take advantage of any potential grade inflation being handed out. Though the collecting world might well put these early graded games in a different valuation category similar to how collectors *may* well value Wata items pre-Los Angeles move (Jan 2022) compared to post Los Angeles move
