So... My (little) experience with amps has taught me that the term "crunch" is supposed to mean the slightest driven tone said amp can reproduce. Now, everybody uses tons of gain and call it "crunch" instead... Even Mesa Boogie amps have a "crunch" channel, which if I'm not mistaken gives more gain than a simple crunch channel anyway... So, what's all this about?
Correct my friend, the terminology seems to be congruent; yet, ambiguous and undefined... I mean, if I want ballz out Crunch or MAX Chug... what's really going to be the deciding factor in making my purchasing decisions?! Thankfully, we can rest assured in the free technology in the modern era that allows for easy Dual, Quad or even OctaTracking & some voodoo "EQ Magic" {;o)
@@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS Hi man, haven't seen you in a while! Yeah, you're right, I guess I'm too used to my Marshall Valvestate amp, in which the crunch mode is just a variation of the clean channel (they even share the same EQ) and it's only a bit more driven. If you want the "serious gain" you need to use the "boost channel", split into OD1 (Plexi inspired tones in a nutshell) and OD2 (the highest distorted tone that amp's got, you could get anything from Motorhead to thrash and of course, stuff the late mr. Schuldiner would love). And that's it. So no idea what everybody's idea of crunch is quite frankly.
Well, Petrucci talks about 3 types of tones: clean, crunch, lead. His "crunch" is heavy as shit, like Metallica. I guess "crunch" in heavy metal can mean heavy, but tight.
It might even really be the crunchiest tone ever. I hear Ride the lightning and Justice tones in there. Nice
The chugging sounds like Death Magnetic, which I love
i hear RTL AJFA DM and RiP
That begs for some Pantera
A New Level.

@@Cthulhu_Awaken I know what you mean... like sometimes "Gain" adds volume, sometimes distorison?! /w\/w\
@@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS Yeah totally.
Anyway, my question still remains unanswered. ☺️
