I keep my sponges dish and sink sponges in my dishwasher, they're never visible unless I wash a pot or I'm cleaning my sink.
OK that is brilliant! Lots of people wash & drain their dishes that way as well. Great tip.
@@ninak8506
Thank you!
That's an awesome and simple tip! Thank you!
That’s the BEST idea EVER! Stealing it!
Brilliant!!!!!!!!
Getting all the dishes and kitchen gadgets in a cohesive colour really helps too
I bought an OXO suction cup sponge holder that I’ve suctioned on the inside front of the sink so that you cannot see it when looking directly at the kitchen. It’s easily accessible to use and there are hole for drainage. I bought it on Amazon and I’m very happy with it. The ruggables are great. The liner stays on the floor and the rug itself can be laundered when dirty. Excellent investment. Great video and suggestions!
Me too
I have so many large serving items but I found I need them during the holidays & special occasions. But they cluttered up my kitchen, so I packed up what I didn’t use on a daily basis and now I store it in the basement. I bring it up when I need it for the holidays or parties then it gets washed, packed & returned to storage in the basement until I need it again.
Refrigerator magnets! We renovated our kitchen 12 years ago, after living in our house for 24 years. When we bought new stainless appliances I let my husband believe they were the kind that weren't magnetic because I was so tired of the visual clutter he kept adding to on the fridge. He still doesn't know, and I am so happy having at least that one part of my kitchen uncluttered!
🤣😂
🤣🤣 Genius!
I keep my dish soap and sponge in a rectangular shaped flower pot that has an attached bottom for any extra water to drain into. I use small bottles so the cant be see from across the room. Been a year plus and I still love it.
Now that’s a great idea
Thank you for your tips. One thing my mom taught me was that cleaning details matter. Keeping our sinks, faucets, counters, stove tops, etc polished including the corners, has a huge impact. If a faucet can't be replaced at least keep it shiny all around the edges. I've seen nice houses look marginal because the sink had built up grime. Just my two cents.
I wipe dry my sink and polish my faucet everyday!
This practice keeps my faucet and sink looking like new.
...very much agree
My great grandmother said you could tell if a house was clean by checking places that aren't easily seen. Particularly the underside of pedestal sinks 🤔😂
@@heathernunn495 Thank You for all the great ideas
I thought I was crazy and the only one in the world who thought this far into the details of their home, and the things they buy.. at least every person throughout my life has made me feel as so.. it fills my heart to see another woman as passionate about details as I. Thank you for being brave and speaking out against the ugly sponges.
:)
You're not the only one, Ashley and I've always felt the same way! On my kitchen counters are beautiful things-3 modern style glass candlestick holders (made for the fat candles). I designed a custom home and made sure it was exactly what I wanted. I've been called "obsessive" -I'm not; I just like to be surrounded an aesthetically pleasing space, even if it's a pantry. I put thought into my home because it's where I spend so much time.
@@amiblack8294 well said Ami!
Yes, we all know that sponges are ugly. They should be stored under the sink in the cabinet. Do you know anyone who has beautiful sponges on their counters for show? I don't. Sponges are made to clean up messes and NOT to be used as decorative objects.................
@@amiblack8294 Do you have a museum rope at the entrance to your "show" kitchen? Really?
@@silvanarusso1232 Wow, that comment isn't very nice.
I agree that some of these brand names are out of many people's budget. And I hate cleaning kitchen dust off clear glass light shades.
So all's not perfect for everyone. But I still like to surround myself with pretty things and I spend a lot of time in my kitchen.
Dozens of items on display mean that none of them are special. No museum ropes necessary but little trinkets, sponges, and paper towels are not on display in my kitchen either.
I agree with most of your points, but most people cannot afford a full kitchen remodel. Please talk more about how to refinish existing surfaces for a more modern look
I refinished the wooden cabinet doors in my kitchen, I used cream color with a brown stain. It came out really nice. Once in awhile we should do some updates.
Although I’m a design fanatic, I’m ultimately a function over form person - especially in the kitchen. While bowls of produce look artful on the first few days, fruit flies and over-ripe fruit or having to change out the display with newly purchased fruit seems like a lot of effort. Same for live cuttings - one has to make sure that pests don’t accompany the cuttings, wash, trim, change the water daily, etc.. Really, it’s a lot, unless one uses faux. I also don’t mind the original hand/dish soap bottles in the kitchen - they are what they are. I go through them so frequently that reporting them into different dispensers seems like a lot as well. However, I do agree that buying large refill containers rather than smaller bottles reduces plastic waste so for that reason, it would be worth the effort.
Wow, I so agree. And moving the toaster after use, ugh. Waiting for it to cool off, and cleaning the crumb tray and wrapping the cord after one use are enough for me to give the toaster permanent counter space.
Totally agree, I tried the fruit thing, but I was just not able to use that many lemons or even apples to prevent them from decaying, and throwing away fruit is ridiculously wasteful. Not remotely funny though. Same with greenery or even flowers, I used to bring fresh hibiscus flowers from outside, we have plenty of these in FL, and green leaves, but as you said, there are pests that are often small and hiding quite in them well. Not a good idea. All of the sudden we had flying insects all over the place. And having a bowl of fake fruit for decoration is completely unappealing and as far from classy as it gets.
Yes, beautiful house it’s a hard work
My favorite small appliance is a crome with copper accents/push buttons, etc. toaster in the shape of a loaf of bread 🍞 . Cute with total class ... I love it!
I can't tell you how helpful your practical tips are for everyone. I can watch one of your videos and go immediately and fix something in my home and it looks so much better. You really do make a difference in our homes. Thank you. I'm a Georgia girl, too. About an hour away north of Atlanta.
I have a basket mounted on the inside of my under kitchen cabinet door that I keep sponges & dish brushes in. On the other door I have a couple of command hooks that I hang dish rags & towels on. (the basket is a command hook basket too). I also put those heavy duty magnet clips (available at the dollar store) on the side wall under my kitchen sink to hold different types of cleaning rags (microfiber, stainless, glass, etc). Using a high sided lazy susan under your sink is handy for cleaning products. I used those high side lazy susans everywhere (I really like them for my spices)!
I use black and grey bar mop cloths. A fresh one is put out everyday and they get washed. No sponges.
I cut up and serge the edges of old bath towels and keep them in a bucket under the sink. I never use them twice before tossing them in the laundry. And if something is so nasty I don't even want to was it, I took it. I think I buy a roll of paper towels a year this way and it doesn't add to the number of laundry loads either.
Agreed. Sponges are gross. I use a fresh wash cloth every time
@@danaonlineable I do the same. My last roll of paper towels lasted almost 4 years... not kidding.
Same. I throw out a sponge if I use one at all.
Again thank you for talking about affordable ways to change a space. Most can’t afford to do a whole kitchen Reno with new cabinets etc. but these small changes can help.
..and in the Great scheme of life does if really matter ?
Cleanliness is the most important to me
The toaster thing is the bane of my existence. For years my husband and I fought over the toaster being left on the counter, I would put it in a pantry or cabinet, he would want it out, convenient. He died...wasn't toaster related. I am now alone raising our 5 children who use the toaster daily, but it can't be a good one because they've broken 4 expensive ones so far in their lives. I have accepted that will have a cheap toaster on my counter for a few more years.
Yeah, utility is more important than a perfect kitchen. The dining area can be perfect with all that decor!
"Wasn't toaster related"... now I have to clean coffee off my laptop!! So sorry for your loss, luv; and LOVE your sense of humor!!
@@gretchenjackman7086 so sorry yes sometimes we put up with husbands and children…maybe do a pretty cloth cover over it or look at thrifty stores for some cute ones. My Mom has a toaster with a pretty cover and that serves her well and looks attractive.
I spray painted mine copper rose gold to match my other appliances now it doesn’t look bad if I don’t put it back in the cabinet one morning. It also helped it had a shiny metal frame to start with
Here in Finland, we have breakfast cabinets... they store the toaster, kettle, etc.. so you can just open the cabinet and use them without taking them out. So convenient and keeps the countertop clear. I wonder why they haven't implemented this genius concept in North America. 🤔And then we have the dish drying rack right inside a cabinet above the sink... don't know how I lived without this in Canada for so many years! 🤭
I also bought a glass cake stand and lid where I keep my baked goods (cookies, cupcakes etc) and have a small beautiful tray I occasionally use for fruit or cheeses along with a handmade small fruit bowl. When these items are not bearing used I display them on small wrought iron plate stands I got at hobby lobby which can be folded and tucked neatly away in a drawer.
Val, I have to share a secret with you. I still have my hello Kitty toaster, that makes the toasted face of the cat on the bread. It would.be so NOT Valentina approved 🤣 but I promise, it's very well hidden 😉 thanks for the video, as always. Hugs fron Prague 🥰
I have one too
@@lillispad6780 Nice! I bet it makes the cutest toasts ;) my daughter loves it :)
I usually don't like trendy, kitchy stuff except I'll make an exception of this lol I was a HK fan and I always wanted the toaster lol
@@Ms.MD7 I bought it about 15+ years ago when I was living in Vienna. I don't know if it would be easy to find here now (Prague). If it was in good shape I would send it to you, but it's quite rough already, it has been very well loved 🙈
Ahhh my sister has one and I absolutely love it!! Who needs boring similar personality-less houses -- gives it character! 😍👌🏽
So helpful when you give these inexpensive tips that I would never think of doing. Im on it! Thank you 🙂
Love this, perfect timing!!! I just realized last week how “undecorated” my kitchen was last week, and I’ve been fixing it up these past few days. Thanks for the tips V ❤️
I have a tip out tray storage that I store sponges in and I have an in sink soap dispenser. I love my inside soap dispenser because it's one that has a tube that goes into into huge jug of soap so I hardly ever have to change my soap out.
Updating faucets is pretty expensive when you have a plumber install them. You have to not only purchase the faucet but schedule a plumber & pay his bill too! That runs into plenty of money! Same with lighting fixtures, there’s the electrician’s bill also! Easier said than done!decluttering is an excellent thing to do & I need to do that badly, however I had been very ill & hospitalized & still haven’t been up to decluttering the kitchen & other areas for that matter! It is what it is because of illnesses!
Hoping a quick, full recovery for you. I know how frustrating it feels to want to gain some control over the the state of one’s home after an illness but not having the energy, especially since being ill means you don’t ever get out of the house!!
Yes unless you do it yourself, it is not so cheap when you have to hire someone to do it for you.
A handyman can change out faucets and light fixtures at much less cost.
Faucets are very very easy to replace yourself. Tons of advice online and in books available at the library.
@@kathleenodonohue9526 Trust me, a lot of people shouldn't be doing any kind of DIY whatsoever. They are a danger to themselves, to others and to property.
Great tips and reminders! Not a single one of these would break the bank, and none of them insult personal decor. Makes me want to go polish up my kitchen!
Go for it!
It depends on how much your bank account is. I'm not going to be going out and buying high-end appliances just to make my tiny little apartment kitchen look nicer.
Lovely decor ideas. For wealthy people. Who all have big islands.
I was pretty surprised when she said "Even Home Depot has good options". LOL.
Hey hey hey… I take the ideas and find the high end stuff ALL of the time at Ross, Tjmaxx, home goods… even the super markets…. Clutter makes anything look cheap… simplicity and placement makes things look important… even in floral depts sale items… like an in season 20$ vase on sale for 5$ when given as a gift with fresh flowers in it gets ooohs and awes as a more pricy gift… there is a mind set to wealth … it doesn’t need a lot of money.
I find cool stuff at Good Will and other thrift stores :)
The reason that most sponges are in Neon yellow or brighter less neutral colors are for functional purposes as they are much easier to find when buried in a sea of dirty plates (same thing with power tools).
How do your power tools get mixed up with your dirty plates?
My one disagreement is the rug. I have never understood why anyone would put rugs in an area where spills are practically guaranteed to occur (same for dining rooms). I do think one very important item was left off. Where possible, keep your garbage bin out of site. Put it in the pantry or inside a cabinet but it should not be out for your guests to see.
Yes!!! Garbage cans always get left out and make a kitchen look gross
When one gets elderly, the therapists tell you not the have rugs anywhere. TRIP and FALL. Broken collarbones, hips and ankles aren't fun!!!!.
I personally agree on your rug-point but my brilliant DIL just got Beautiful washable rugs for her kitchen and bathrooms. They sit atop of a rubber like padding, keeping them flat and secure, yet easily lifted to be laundered in her washer!
A rug adds comfort for your feet when standing for long periods of time. I’m aging & I’ve never tripped on a rug.
I have to say I hard disagree about the trash can because trying to discretely Russian-roulette find a hidden trash can is such an enormous pain in the butt. At least set it out when you host, or be sure to point it out to your guests
Great tips and easy fixes! Ruggables have amazing styles! Grove also carries neat coconut sponges!
I have replaced all of my soap dispensers at both houses, thanks to you. I had very good ones however you made me realize that they were no longer fresh and clean looking.
Some were chipped, even rusting. Thank You. Additionally perfect timing I had just decided to do some black accent walls. Also in my den from the 1700’s with original cooking fireplace I recently refinished the wood floor. It had been natural oak. Jumped out of the box. Used a clear blue stain. It is wonderful. Just a slight tinge. Entering the room it is more evident. I recently decided to use a high gloss navy to some extent. Therefore your advice today was most welcome. Incidentally I am a very new follower. Additionally I would like you to know that I did not leave projects incomplete, don’t do that. Plan plan plan. I just stopped and went to the Beach for the season. Looking most forward to following you going forward.
You have not only lovely but also sensible taste and design principles. Thank You 🌹
Great content!! If you are looking for more video ideas, I would love one on the right types of light fixtures for different rooms.
Yes, I’d like this too. Specifically, I always hear that boob lights are a NO!, but I don’t know what to use instead. My ceilings are not super high so options seem limited.
It’s so nice to hear someone talk about nice soaps by the sink. I have been doing it forever. If all I have is dawn, it’s going under the sink! I usually get willliams Sonoma soaps. I used to love cucina-Same with the yucky sponges-under the sink! Thank you Valentina!
I have no problem storing sponges and dish soap under the cabinet, and I don’t consider it too much effort to reach down there and get it when I do the dishes!
I wash dishes all day
My tools stay where I use them
I’m in kitchen hrs daily
Same. I much prefer reaching a few inches to having all that clutter at the sink.
Hello Valentina, I will mention an eco friendly option and still beautiful kitchen sponge to look at is the Kuhn Rikon Stay Clean Black Silicone scrubber. You mentioned a while back that you liked the knifes they make. That's how I discovered the brand.
Going crazy watching all your videos right now as I am re- doing lots of things and putting special touches throughout my home since my divorce- reclaiming my space.
Love that you just did this video as I am about to tackle a few problems in my kitchen and I was just thinking “I need a rug in it”. Thank you for confirming my instincts! 🤣
I upgraded to a touchless faucet with pull down spray from Home Depot and got rid of Sprayer on counter too and put in a top mount air disposal switch where sprayer was. Love it and it was on sale at an amazing price. Under $250 . Easy install as well. Also the builder grade faucet we replaced splashed water all over counter top because it was too high for our sink depth so I made sure faucet curved just an inch or so lower. What a difference in looks and utility.
"Those little things that you add into what you've been given"---perfect! Just the right way to look at everything!!!!
In my beautiful new black kitchen, complete with huge butler's sink. I had the joiner fabricate below the sink double doors. Inside the doors is a pullout drawer. Its a weird shape due to plumbing and water filter. It houses all the cleaning supplies, all the brushes scrub and sponges.also a garbage can and bags, dishwasher tablets and rinse. Its perfect. I couldn't believe it all went in. I'm so thrilled with this, it makes life easy, knowing where it all is. easily accessible too
Suzi Smith--
I so wish I could see a picture of this!
Love the soothing music, definitely sets the mood! You are amazing, Love to watch you!
Dear Valentina, Thank you for the great information, tips & tricks. My husband & I tune in because your elegant, easy styling appeals to both of us (no easy feat). Just subscribed and look forward to learning more as we need to decorate our new water front home.
Best regards from Foster City, CA.
I totally agree on changing the tap/ faucet. And pretty dish washing liquid and hand soap dispenser 👍👍👍
So many simple updates or refreshes! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thank You
love your channel! 👍 I would love to see an updated tour of your beautiful home to get some ideas 😉
Love this. I have a Persian rug in my kitchen. It’s amazing. I send to clean every 7 years. Love it!
Do you find it shows grime or looks bad by the time you send it in for cleaning? I want to get a Persian runner but am afraid I will make it look a hot mess faster than I can put a pot on the stove
I have Persian rug/runner in my kitchen in a multi colored pattern and its the answer to hiding things. Never looks dirty, alway classy and the only pattern in the room. Keep it well vacuumed and only clean every couple of years. Just love it!
If you want it to last it should be cleaned every year at min, every 6months optimally, otherwise the dirt will break up and cut up the fibers.
I like the white sponges you showed..I had no idea..I hate the blue one I use in my kitchen..
Thank you for the input. I do have a very nice soap dispenser..😉
You always have great ideas.
These are great tips. I like the idea of looking for beautiful everyday appliances
Love these tips! Guilty of the green sponge, but they are always hidden. Others are tchotchkes/plants, really anything on top of cabinets, magnets all over the frig, big lettered signs that say, "KITCHEN", "LA CUCINA" (if you mistake your kitchen for another room, you have bigger problems 😉 ). Calendars on the wall, ugly trash cans, paper towels on top of the kitchen counters.
My favorite comment! I feel that way with the “blessed” and “grateful” signs. If I have to keep reminding myself....🤔😬😂
I agonized for weeks finding the perfect trash can, but it was worth it !
Yes, agree. I’m guilty of paper towels on a dispenser on the counter. What do you do instead?
@@leannatimmerman9922 I have a paper towel holder mounted on the inside of the cabinet door beneath the sink. Alternatively, I have seen them mounted directly under a cabinet near the sink. Do some googling. Also, I think it's a personal preference and a matter of space. I don't have tons of space around my sink, and I'm a little OCD about too many things on my counter. Honestly, I don't think it's tacky or anything. I think it's if you do too many of these things. 😉.
😍 I remember following you since you did the video about gift wrapping ideas and you had maybe
I placed a beautiful clear glass pedestal glass cake plate next to my sink to hold my pretty soap dispenser, clear blue spray bottle and sponge.
I have very small home with no dishwasher to tuck away my sponge. This works for me as the pretty bottle/dispenser & display detracts from my little blue sponge;)
I just decluttered my kitchen by moving my knives off the counter with an in-drawer bamboo knife block. I also got a real bamboo flatware drawer organizer and finally retired the the Walmart vintage mesh organizer from my first apartment 23 years ago. Lastly, had an appliance cabinet installed (as a part of a partial cabinet upgrade) with sliding drawers to strictly house my appliances (most are very nice looking if I do leave them on the counter). This breathed life into my kitchen. I also have a beautiful red Viking mixer that I used have on display. I just don't use enough to keep it out. I do leave my Haaden toaster on the counter. Not only do I use it daily, this is such a beautiful looking retro toaster that I am very tempted to get its partner tea kettle. For now, I'll just continue to hide my current ugly $15 Walmart vintage tea kettle in the appliance pantry between uses. Next up, my pantry.
I do all of this and glad you mentioned it.
I have an appliance cupboard with a roll down door. My toaster, kettle, sandwich press, mixer and any other small appliance are in there. It has 4 shelves as well as the bench top, so there is plenty of room for everything.
You always have such great tips, thank you! 🤗
Very much appreciate your taking the time to show the links to suggested products --it makes it easier as a subscriber if there is something shown I would like to follow up on.
CONGRATULATIONS on 150K !! So happy for you! xoxo
I finally got rid of the knife block on my counter… Im a new woman! 😁
Great ideas-thank you. I love your non-judgmental approach to pointing these things out.
I laughed so hard at those "Daddy" sponges and your entire conversation about sponges! Hilarious!! I've never heard nor seen any Daddy sponges but OMG! What a riot!! Thanks for the advice and the good laugh!!
Thank You I got some updating to do in my kitchen 🙋🏽♀️
I am taking that toaster off the counter today! The kids will want toaster waffles for a bit but then they get sick of them. We hardly ever make toast. No need to have it on display like it is art. It’s not. It’s just a boring and plain looking toaster that I am constantly cleaning. When it gets splattered from my cooking.
I have a beautiful glass table in my kitchen with dark brown base and yes a rug under it and a bark wood floor.
I have a wooden handled scrub brush that I keep by the sink just for looks 😜. The ugly scrub brush I actually use is under the sink
Love this! Agree with every point!
Ruggable in the kitchen is my friend. Invested in second “topper” for my runner so I get to change the look every week when I wash the dirty one. Thinking of getting a “holiday” topper for this year. I use my air fryer EVERY day, but it is huge and so obvious. It’s a love-hate relationship.
I bought a pretty indoor-outdoor rug for my kitchen, and I just take it out to the driveway twice a year to pressure wash it. Works like a charm. It's rather firm and stiff, so it's not a trip or slip hazard, it protects my hardwood floors, and it adds a nice touch to the room's appearance. My kitchen is very small, so I left my cabinets naked, no hardware at all; that way, my clothes don't snag and tear on knobs as I walk past them (top drawers are ALWAYS exactly the same height as my pockets!), and my narrow passageways are just a little bit wider.
Loved all your ideas!Anxiously waiting for your fall decor video 🤗
I've never been so early!! YAY! Valentina! Your home is my total inspiration! Everything you suggest...I will follow! LOL!
Thanks so much!
Perfect ideas! Thank you, Valentina!
For seniors like myself, the ‘Edison’ light bulbs that are popular now, I find so glaring and annoying! I walk into a kitchen/dining room with them and want to put on my sunglasses!😞
The sponges and the handsoap and dishwashing liquid. That never occurred to me and now I can't UNSEE it. I am definitely changing that up pronto! That's why I need people who have that eye for design. Thanks, great video.
First time i've watched you videos. Tomorrow morning right after breakfast I am ordering new white sponges, a Williams and Sonoma dish soap catty and clearing off my beautiful black granite countertops and only leaving out breautiful Expresso Machine, and Fruit Bowl. I will also place flowers in the middle of the island counter. Thank you so much Valentina. Now on to watching more of your videos.
Congrats on your growing channel! Much deserved!🏆
I installed a Rev-a-Shelf to hold my Kitchen Aid mixer. It hides away behind the lower cabinet door but pulls up on a platform when in use. Best thing ever!
Rugs are horrible if you or someone you love are in a wheelchair or using crutches or walker ... don’t forget to make your home a place that invites the ones you love in and feel welcome in your home. You will feel more enriched for making that change in your life and personal space.
Love all the tips!❤️
Great video that even applies to small apartment kitchens. What is your opinion on canisters?
I painted my cabinets white, in my small kitchen it looks more modern and clean, but I'm not really in to everthing in the 2020 decade, I noticed every time a place gets remodeled it looks very sterile and uninviting, from my library to the local barnes and noble
I agree! If you watch the new homes show from Atlanta metro, all the houses and condos seem to have the exact same ideas-very sterile, gray, uninspiring. I love functionality, but it also needs style and warmth.
Thanks for giving some cost effective solutions for updating.
Yes I’m guilty of all of these, but I’m making improvements. I was thinking painting the walls & cabinets.
If you do plan on a kitchen remodel, a big thing that we LOVE was the refrigerator build out. I know counter depth is very in, but we did the build out for a deeper fridge because not only do I get a TON more storage in my fridge, you get this awesome deep above fridge cabinet. It’s deep enough to store our big counter top appliances like our air fryer and toaster. We also love to sous vides, so I can fit my vacuum sealer and oversized water tub so I don’t clutter my counter top.
I recently redid my kitchen during the pandemic. I’m still waiting on my refrigerator that I ordered in July of last year. Both my fridge & dishwater broke down during the renovation. It’s been rough, but I have great white cabinets & a fresh granite counter. Getting ready to lay the flooring. I hung a great crystal pendant over the sink, it makes me so happy
It seems like you haven’t tried the scrub daddy sponges, lol. I care more about how good they do the job than their color. My house doesn’t need to be perfect. Thanks for the tips anyway
I know what you mean. I love my scrub daddy. Lol! Especially when it starts to break down and I find it making funny looking faces. 😂 Plus they rarely get that funky smell like other sponges do. And they dry faster.
Scrub daddy is a game changer!!
E-Cloth has a gray scrubbing sponge that is nice looking (for a sponge) and it can be washed.
When it comes to the small appliances I absolutely agree on having the most attractive ones out on the counter, and the most used, but something else to remember is to make sure they're clean and GUNK FREE. There's nothing more heinous than having grease, crumbs said greasy finger prints or water spots on the appliances.
Couldn’t agree more
Nope, no small appliances on the counter for me.
@@loriclark553 , that's best! 👍🏆
Not necessarily on topic, but related. I know you love marble counters. What do you think of the marble-esque look of quartzite counters? They are natural stone, unlike quartz plus they are harder than granite. I always worry about marble staining because it's a softer stone.
Thumbs up or down on quartzite counters for the kitchen?
IMPO, Marble should Never be used on work surfaces!! I don't care how many times it's sealed, it is so soft & porous, it takes 1 juice/red wine glass to make a permanent stain!! Uggggh! Never again- & it was SOOOOO Expensive!
Great tips! Keep them coming.
Thanks for your kitchen upgrades.
I wish you had more ideas for a small galley kitchen, which I have in my co-op.
When I cook, there’s hardly any room for another person in the kitchen.
I never have soap containers out or anything extra by my sink but I do have a built in soap dispenser and a button for my disposal. Also add pictures from our travels that I can change along with a small green plant, sometimes a bowl of fresh vegetables or fruit, nothing fussy. I don’t know who started the shelf thing in kitchens that’s just a lot of extra cleaning and upkeep. I never leave the house without my kitchen and bathrooms clean. If I walk into someone’s kitchen and it’s not clean or picked up I would not be able to eat there. Just sayin’ How about the inside of the refrigerator?
I love my built in soap dispenser! My sink faces a large rectangle window and i get a lot of light so i have little succulents in little pots on the rim. The only challenge is keeping the window spot free especially after my husband washes dishes because he likes to splash around.
I just love your sense of humor especially paired up with Jack. Your design ideas are amazing too. You also sold me on a Nespresso machine.it is amazing. Thank you for all the advice
I have a vintage oriental runner in my kitchen. Nothing expensive, but it really takes the look up a notch and if it needs cleaning I can hose it off in the yard.
When you have a smaller house and smaller kitchen you don’t have enough storage space to put your small appliances in so some of them have to sit in counter tops
I couldn't afford a full kitchen professional remodel so acted as my own contractor and found sources for wholesale cabinets, countertop, and we did our own new wood floor install with family who had experience installing. Sure it took much longer to do, but I saved TONS of $$$.
I am not surprised you have done so well with subscribers. I refrenced you in a NKBA event with lots of designers.
You are my favorite lady, V! Keep up the great work!
Yes Valentina I agree. I'm a renter n I've changed most of them. 😘👍
That’s an easy way to change the feel of the entire kitchen.
I moved into a new house a little over a year ago and asked the builder to not install any cabinet hardware. When I moved in, I spent two weeks installing cabinet hardware, changing door hardware (I wanted black and the closest they had was antique bronze), replacing faucets including the kitchen faucet to match the cabinet hardware, changing out lighting fixtures light switches (switched to decora style z-wave), wall plates, etc.
For the kitchen, I went to Sur La Table (when they still existed in Atlanta) and told them, "I want your most expensive toaster" as I was tired of cheap toasters that looked crappy. They responded, "No problem, we have a Wolf toaster for $800." Naturally, I immediately responded, "I want your second-most expensive toaster." (which ended up being a Breville - very nice). So yeah, you can get a little carried away.
Are we talking about staging a kitchen for sale or actually living in it? Because I need more than green apples on my countertop!
So on point!
I forgot about soap caddies! Time to go shopping!
Oof, you called me out with the Scrub Daddy lmao I love that thing! I’ll just hide it 😂
I needed this! Time to update my kitchen, starting with de-cluttering :-)
Hi Val. Love your vlogs! Remodeling kitchen for the first time in my life!! Yahoo!! Its VERY small, will be black and white with tangerine, lime and turquoise accents. Very Moroccan. What type and color of lighting do you recommend? There wont be an island or table but will be a coffee bar and reclaimed barn wood shelf (from our barn).❤
