On the road shots you could use the Finnish army trick of summer woodland M05 jacket + M05 snow camo pants. That way your legs are blending to the snow on the ground and from waist up you are blending to the trees that have little to no snow. Works very well when viewed from a distance.

The pattern of the hat is named pakkaskuvio. Meaning frost or freezing pattern. It is meant to be used exactly how you described the mixing of camos. We can have snow camo on depending of environment or the frost pattern for foresty thawing areas
Late springtime we used only snowpant coverall in finnish army, because there was snow only on the ground. All the foliage, trees and other stuff were completely snowless, so best performing combo was using normal m05 pattern on top, and using snow coveralls for the legs. Of course the snow coverall jacket was there with you, if needed for the mission. Served in recon unit so blending in for the mission was always part of preparation.
I remember the winter of 2010 when I was in the Finnish army and we used the m05 winter camo. When we were walking to the shooting range it started to snow and it was almost impossible to spot the guys walking ON THE ROAD ~50m in front of me. Couple a little snowfall with the very limited daylight hours finland has during the winter and you get yourself an extremely potent camo pattern.
In Norwegian army we very often wore white camo on the legs and not on the upper body. We found this to work well in mixed snow/forest environment, and reduced inconveniences and overheating.
here in estonia during some times of winter we wear snow camo pants and woodland camo tops so when youre standing or crouching your legs blend into the snow and your top blends in with the trees
The full snow camo is mainly for mid-winter, especially further to the north where the trees are also covered in snow. More often than not you only use the pants.
tbh in the army we had suspenders on those Snow M05's so I think its supposed to look like that. Also we put our gear on top of the snow M05's. The Readiness units usually camo their rifles and rigs atleast in the Jäger Brigade.
Definitely one of my insta watch channels. Fun, informative, and right to the chase. Love you guys. I'm still fawning over your squad blitz drills from years ago
When Ziga was practicing his shoulder rolls in the snow, all I could picture is him continuing to roll, accumulate snow, turn into a giant snowball, and blasting through a wall at the bottom of the hill like the KoolAid guy. "OH yeah! Tactical snowball entry FTW!" 😂 Polenar team, I know you can make this happen.
Those camo test were really nice. Movement is easy to spot in close but add distance and things arent that simple. Add some wind to move trees and maybe snowfall and only two things you will spot are named as Jack and Shit. Could see more videos like this how camo patterns works and how to hide man in plain sight.
Besides the straight Snow camo head to toe, the Finns also use the Snow trousers/ bottoms and their Woodland top/ blouse in combination, also works very well for diffusion/ profile breakup in principle and application. I really like the M05 Snow camo but I wish it had Brown speckled in with the Gray, that would be nearly perfect then, alteration as needed is easy enough though. The Gear Aid brand self-adhering Fabric camo wrap work exceptionally well and matches the M05 Snow pattern extremely well (i've done a video with it and a home-made Snow camo system, my area is very similar to Finland in Winter).
@@PolenarTactical I remember that one!!! Yeah they discontinued it sadly, worked really well too. What you can do is take some plain over whites, then use camo netting and just speckle brown from spraypaint/ rattle can randomly over it, that works exceptionally well and saves a lot of money too.
@@PolenarTactical I made several snow Ghillies with Snowdrift strips of pinking shear-cut fabric. It’s perfect for snow-covered plains with the light tan hints of underbrush in the US high desert/hills and barren landscapes in the winter that get a lot of snow. Finland has way more green due to the heavy forrest. M05 and Danish snow camo work very well in Europe.
This should be in every video. Spot the guy in camo hidden in a random scene. Could push up interaction too with people going through looking for them and posting in the comments.
I always feel like camo really shines when you see it at a distance. Up close, some of the shots were wicked in how well it blends and others pretty obvious. Back up like 30-40 yards and you're invisible. I'd do a gag video of "landscapes" and camo
Those loose overgarments also help break up human shape. What I really noticed is that movement outside of concealment really gives you away. Camo is helpful, but it's not an invisibility cloak. I really liked your weapon camo. Wrap and bits of tape is my go-to for rifle camo--speaking of which, would you consider a compare/contrast video of tape and paint for weapon camo?
Movement is the problem. It's really easy to lie still with camo and facepaint. But creeping closer, thats the hard part. I served in Finnish long range recon unit, and our job was to be invisible. I can't even explain how carefully slow you have to move to remain hidden. Human eye is excellent for spotting movement.
I have recently seen a Norwegian force doing some NATO connected drill, and they had dark woodland type camo for the upper body, and snow camo for the pants, which blends really well in boreal forests. And was also kinda stylish.
What I discovered in airsoft of all things when there is snow on the ground = just plain white pants and camo jacket of your choice works like you would not belive if you want to to even beyond, even plain white pants with ghillie green top give you almost 100% camo in a winter forrest where there is snow on the ground and the the "background" is more green than white "
I've been told that turning the M05 uniform inside out for winter is an intentional part of the design. It does absorb water like these guys absorb alcohol, so its not ideal for lying in snow, but I guess it works in a pinch.
The Finnish m05 camo has been optimized to decieve the eye. And camo combining is usual for example spring winter. Snow on the ground so need snow camo pants and summer or cold climate top. We usually wore gear over
The classic german and swiss flecktarn are great examples of cammo that doesnt look like it will work but yet it completely disappears out in the field.
You can also use military poncho raincoat with desired camouflage pattern on it but it won't cover your legs. Also works great to camouflage a shelter, tent, equipment since it's waterproof. It's lightweight too.
You guys should do a video with the phantom leaf camouflage patterns. Some people claim their photos are doctored but their patterns seem extremely effective!
Na... Phantomleaf doesn't doctor their pics because it would ruin their rep. Some shops/companies crank up the saturation in the pics of all camos they sell to make them look more appealing.

Russians already knocked off M05 winter overwhites made from cheap nylon over 10 years ago so they can use them for false flags. We bought a bunch of them to see how they look and perform. They get really wet inside from sweat even in -30˚C, so they suck to wear. The Finnish winter gear allows sweat to vent out.
The part about the snow pants supposedly not absorbing water... can tell you from experience the military ones absolutely do. We had our training march during the end of winter when the snow started melting a bit, and our clothes were absolutely wet. But maybe the Varusteleka ones are better, they usually improve their stuff over the military issue gear
In the army we simulated "winter camo" always by turning the clothes insideout when there was fresh snowfall. Like my year was a wet black winter with snow only staying for a few days until it melted again....
