Simon, yes it was so pretty we spend a little more time there in next weeks video when son comes to visit. Hope you can tune in. Thanks for your lovely comment.
I really enjoy your videos.. You seem to be a very happy couple..your vlogs bring me a sense of peace and joy.. My late husband Allan and I realized our dreams of live aboard life for 6 years from 2000- 2006. I live in Victoria BC and we had a Californian 55. Built by Carver Yachts.. They were fabulous years and culminated our boating adventures which extended from 1979 in our 32 ft Woody Grand Banks with our two children to our final boat..called Ten Plus.. our live-aboard.
Hi love the comment thanks so much for taking the time to drop us one, we so appreciate it. Sorry for your loss but it sounds like you really lived life to the full, which is so important. What a wonderful adventure you had. Hope you enjoy the rest of our video's. Next week we have family onboard.
It really is! We loved Shardlow. We show you a lot more of the area next week when Scott, son joins us for a couple of day cruise. Lovely to hear from you J&M
We do dereent mouth quite a lot being moored at sawley. We haven't had the nose taken at derwent mouth but our engine / propeller doesn't like it and we always seem to feel like we're losing power as we go across into the T&M. As new boat owners the first time we thought the engine was giving up and we might need to deploy rhe anchor. I agree it can be scary especially when the river levels are up a bit We've seen those cygnets recently and they all have survived. Pretty big now .. and hungry
Hi there great information about your experiences on that section of the network, other boaters have told us the same. I think in summer it wouldn't be too much of a problem, we did it after heavy rain.We hope you get out and about and enjoy the network. Great update on the swans J&M
This made my day so much better seeing the beauty of this area, the trees, the Swans, every thing I can't see being housebound. Thank you for all the information you give us too I am learning from every episode, many thanks to you both !
Hi Michael and Jac. Please video inside your boat and what you do inside. I love your Chanel and I live in South Africa and find this hobby very interesting indeed. Regards Linda xx
Hi Linda. Thank you so much for taking the time to drop us a comment all the way from South Africa. We are so pleased to know you enjoy watching us. If you go to episode 46 we take you through the inside of BORDER REIVER, we hope you can watch that one and that you enjoy seeing inside our tiny floating home. We published a new video each Sunday at 5pm GMT. J&M x
Can't help saying what a lovely couple you are. So down to earth and no showiness at all. It's really a joy to watch every one of your episodes, which you make so interesting. I spent a total of seven weeks on the Llangollen and the Lancs canals, many years ago and enjoyed every minute of it. Can't do it now, as I live in Ireland and at 87, I don't do much travelling now, except driving around the West of the country in my car. But I love watching your travels. So relaxing. Thank you very much. Continue with your good life. Best wishes. Des.😊
Hi Desmond, thank you for your very kind comment. It's just us being us and showing you a little of our waterways adventures. When we are old and grey we'll enjoy watching them back ha ha. Sounds like you have had some lovely relaxing journeys too. Thank you, keep watching we have family on board next week J&M x
Excuse me while l spit a few willow leaves 🍃 out ..... l thought l was going to get willo branches sprining out of my tablet when you went through 😂😂😂..... Great tgat youre meeting up with your son and daughter in law , Jackie and Michael 👍
Sorry Jerry hope you have recovered from the willow tree incident. Ha ha great fun though! Yes don't forget to tune in next week its a great one. J&M x
Thanks for a very entertaining vlog. The purple boat that you moored next to in Shardlow is a hire boat. We hired it three years ago and fell in love with the canals. Six months later we bought a boat. No regrets!
Wow that's great to know and we are so pleased to hear you have purchased a narrowboat on the back of your hire in Shardlow. Happy cruising, we might bump into you someday. x
Dear Jacki ad Michael. We found you by mistake and are really glad we did-we have really enjoyed binge watching 62 episodes and are sad we have now caught up! Your videos are so entertaining, informative and very relaxing. We have a cruiser (No 26) on the Lancaster Canal at Bridge House Marina, Garstang. Lovely moorings and facilities and lovely family business. Your mooring under the willow tree is a fabulous spot and how lovely to hear the guitarist entertaining you. We'll hopefully meeting you if you come on the Lancaster Canal-we'll look out for you. In the meantime please carrying on enjoying cruising and drinking your coffee!!! David and Hilary
Hi David and Hilary 🥰 so proud you found us, even if by accident 😆. You must get a prize 🏆 for watch all 62…. We won’t ask which one you thought was best 🤔. Border Reiver came from nr Lancaster, it’s a small world isn’t it. Your canal sounds lovely, perfect. If we get your way we’ll call in for a cheeky coffee. 💕💕💕
Another enjoyable trip through Shardlow. Yes the swans can be very protective and you were right to pass with care. will be interested in your thoughts on the Eriwash if you head that way.
well done guys you done well. and enjoy your Gin and Tonic, I live in Adelaide south australia, I made Blackberry gin last xmas thanks to Fran and Ricks utube channel. enjoy watching you guys awesomw thank you...
Sounds great Lyn, it sounds yummy, we have friends that make sloe gin and that is almost like a liquer. Thanks for your lovely comment and yes we love our cheeky Friday night G&T xx
Super vlog it is good to travel along with you both and anytime you film the history info signs i like to read them with you My first 32 years of life i lived in England even as a lorry driver i did not see the country side like Narrow boaters do so thank you for taking us people along Stay safe and well enjoy your family time with your son and his sweetheart, Ed 40 S of Vegas
We are so pleased we can bring you a little something of everything is our weekly videos. Vegas and the UK waterways couldn't be more difference. Thanks for taking the time to comment. J&M
Shardlow is so lovely!❤❤ oh gosh, I wish I could sell my place in BC Canada and buy a narrow boat and live in GB. I love the rain ☔️ I am a genuine pluviophile and would be totally at home in GB. Too bad I don’t have anybody who would do it with me. 😢 I love your vlogs. ❤❤
Lovely to hear from you and so pleased you are enjoying our little waterways adventures all the way from BC. We have family there and know how beautiful it is. You can never say never, one day you might. Great to know you love our little adventures. x
Hi Julie thank you so much, lovely comment. We are so pleased you enjoyed. We try to bring you something of everything as we travel on the waterways. x
Hi Gaz so pleased you are enjoying our style of vlogs. No sadly we haven't because the car has been such a long way away from the boat each time we have needed to collect it. It's been bus, train, bus and a bit of walking ha ha. J&M x
The arrow on the map showing I assume was where you are at Sawley is too far south. Sawley is near Long Eaton south west of Nottingham. Love the videos 👍
G'day Jackie & Michael. We have just come across your channel and really enjoyed the video. We have subscribed and will have to go back and watch from the beginning. We are watching you from New Zealand. We did hire a boat many years ago on a trip back to the UK in the winter for 4 days and we really enjoyed the experience even though it was very cold. Debbie & Patrick
Welcome aboard Debbie and Patrick! Wow, it's great to know that you are watching from New Zealand, we have friend and family over there. To know you have experienced our lifestyle (even in winter) is great, welcome aboard fellow boaters. x
Brought back fond memories of my time spent aboard my narrowboat tug Wotan in Shardlow did the entire navigable length from Shardlow to Preston brook back in the late 1980s to mid 1990s. Had a mooring in Shardlow for several years. brilliantly produced video thank you.
No you're clearly someone after my own heart.... coffee and chocolate sort a lot of things out in my world. My 11.30am coffee is cast in stone in our little home! Lovely to hear from you x
It’s amazing how the addition of a little technology really helps - walkie talkies are a great addition. Solar powered led light added to the middle of the boat, that turns on automatically when in a tunnel and really illuminates each side of the tunnel seems to make it much more straight forward to see where the boat is positioned in the tunnel and avoid bumping the side - as a viewer it is interesting to really see how the tunnel is constructed.
Hi Katherine yes the walkie talkies were the perfect solution to our cruising 'shouting' at each other to be heard from the towpath. We couldn't be with out them now..
What a grand summer day this ended up being. Thanks for the nice bit of canal/river junction history. Indeed it was peaceful. Indeed a nice little shot of ___ doesn’t hurt at all. Pleasant to learn that you have a son and that he’s visiting. All good as they say. That guy singing on his Narrowboat…. he had a real decent voice. That was impressive. The canals can be surprisingly adventuresome…but hey ! …. I needn’t tell the two of you.😂 Thanks again for taking us along. This videography business is time consuming but I want you to know that “I get it” Nice solemn ceremony in France BTW. Au plaisir de vous revoir. Canada’s Eastern Seaboard 🇨🇦 (Since the early 1720s for my family) Cheers 🥂
Yes agree with all your comments, it was the perfect spot to moor and a real treat with the music. Yes the video editing is very challenging some weeks and time consuming... sometimes you don't realise you've missed recording a part of the story which was important and have to do a voice over to explain. All part of being actor, camera man/women, editor, director and producer at the same time. It's a good job there was two of us... Ha ha. So pleased you enjoyed the commemoration of the liberation in France. Merci beaucoup. xx
We love it! You are very lucky Ann its a wonderful area. We hope we did it justice showing a little bit of the area. Thanks for taking the tie to drop us a comment. x

Hi Michael
When did you serve on Gurkha, she was my first ship, 75-77
Hi my friend!!
I joined the Gurkha March 76 until mid 78. I was AB(R). We were on board at the same time!!
Blimey...I was AB(S), Dixie Dean, Scouse Webster was my oppo..we must surely know each other. 2NP mess, then to 2NS, Tas&RPs mess
I do remember a scouse lad in our mess 2NP it was the J/S mess if I remember correctly. I remember being in the canteen one day and the scouse lad (maybe scouse Webster?) showing us his party trick of shoving a full mars bar sideways into his mouth in one piece? We were all in fits of laughter?
Ring any bells?
Beautiful scenery! Love the willow trees !
So do narrow boats have grey tanks for shower and sink water or is that ok to drain into the canals? Actually, nobody in a narrow boat mentions emptying a grey tanks so I suspect the canal are your grey tanks, so to speak
Really enjoying your channel ❣️
Thanks Katherine for taking the time to drop us a comment, we so appreciate it. The willow tree was incredible. Fortunately Michael hung onto the camera as he came into moor!!! In terms of emptying into the canal our grey water, it is permitting by the CRT. A lot of boaters use enviro friendly products, as we do, so there is minimal damage. Thanks for letting us know you love our channel, we try to bring just the right mix of us, waterways, history and our travels to the screen. J&M x
@@cruisingontheborder Thanks for clarifying !

Where do you get your canal maps from?
Hi thanks for the question. We use the Nicholson guides, there are 7 of them in the series and we love the detail they include they make navigating so easy.
You could have left that Swan family some food.
They don't like Costa Fortune Coffee, by the way.
Ha ha yes we could but they were so young we didn't want to upset them or the parents. Won't ask how you know about the coffee....
They should of renamed the boat from tranquility to noisy git
Thanks for your comment.
