Bought this on cassette when it came out in ‘86 and had it blasting in my new ‘86 Cutlass Supreme w/t-top as I was driving into Atlanta moving away from home for the first time. This song is special!

I was blasting this song in my 1985 VW GTI in Atlanta leaving for college in Athens in 1986.

Great song from a great album, it was a really interesting project combining the two prog rock guitar legends, and there was no keyboards, the two Steves experimenting with guitar synths. And love Max Bacon's high end soaring vocals. Other great tracks from the album are "The Hunter" , " Jeckyl and Hyde" , "Reach out" , "Toe the line" and "Imagining" Best wishes

AND It was produced by Geoff Downes....keyboardist of YES, ASIA and BUGGLES
Not as the.prog approach of the 70s but a very decent effort....
I.love the "imagining" last track, AND of.course "sketches in the sun" howe solo track

I am a proud Gen X’er and I was 20 when this great song came out. I’m so happy you reviewed this beautiful song! At the time, I was working two jobs and going to school. I was exhausted but I just kept moving. This song spoke volumes to me. It’s profound, inspirational and encouraging! I used to crank it (Gen X term) as loudly as possibly!
GTR was short for guitar. It was formed by two major English guitarists; Steve Howe - the epic guitarist of Yes and Steve Hackett - the iconic Genesis guitarist. They both are classically trained and decided to form a band together. It was mind blowing! Absolutely mind blowing! Blending all the different genres with incredible lyrics!
Thank you again for taking the time to listen to this beautiful song!

I had this "tape", my sophomore year in college. These guys were a super-group, a combination of Yes and Asia. I would have liked to see more from them.

Asia was also a super group! With members formerly of Yes, Uriah Heep, the buggles, and the Palmer from Emerson lake and Palmer.

This album used crazy guitar effects to create the "keyboard" sounds. Steve Howe (Yes, Asia) and Steve Hackett (Genesis) wanted as many sounds as possible to be made via guitar. If any keyboards were used it was minimal. Thus, the name of the band: GTR (guitar). Unfortunately, they couldn't get the guitar effects to translate to playing live, so they had to employ a keyboard player then.

John Slop I laughed out loud and smiled the entire time! I know this song well. I graduated in 1986 when this CD came out and was extremely disappointed when the band fell apart 1 year after in 1987 due to financial reasons. It was so fun to anticipate a reaction from you when I knew there was going to be change ups throughout the song. It was my exact sentiments when I first heard the song. Thanks for your spontaneous and spot on reactions. Loved it! Have to watch again! :)

I hope you gave the rest of this album a chance. Honestly. I bought this when it came out in 1986, and it was definitely one of my favourite albums of that year. I listen to it now, and there is not one bad song on it. I wasn't blown over by "The Hunter" when i was 19 years old, but now I listen to and think, nope! That song is class too. It does not have one bad song on the whole album. I really recommend it.
