This is great as a beginner wheel but would also be accessible for people without control of their feet/legs! I never expected to have such an opportunity!
Thanks for the informative review! I really liked how you not only stated the specifications (size, speed, power) but also compared how each spec stacked up against the "standard" wheels. Having these points of reference allows people to understand the pros and cons of a less expensive wheel vs the full sized options and decide what compromises are right for them. Thanks again and keep making great content!
You're welcome Jay. I think this wheel is great for the beginner that is not sure about throwing yet or wants something that costs less at first. I still use it at my friends house and use my Giffin grip on it for trimming.
Just purchased this for my husband for his 50th birthday. Getting your experienced opinion and tips makes me feel like a made a good choice! I'm excited to watch him try it out!
Excellent video, I’m hoping for a followup video. Could you put this little guy through its paces? Throw a hundred cups on it, to see what you think of it after doing some intense work on it. Throw a giant pot on it, 50 pounds of clay to see if and how it struggles, the table starts to wobble or something else gives out. Maybe even side by side with your best wheel, give us insight why it might be worth while to spend a bit more on a better tool. You are awesome!
You could be right because I only use this wheel to make small items and trim with my Giffin grip. For larger items, I use my Brent wheel. It still works great. I think it's a good wheel for beginners that know if they want to invest in a larger wheel. It's also good for traveling. I take it to my friend's house from time to time. 😊
I bought the same Equipment from Amazon. Now it’s been almost two months and had little use since I am still taking lessons. Your reviews make me feel great I bought this.
Hi Mini from the UK. I'm from Vas Vegas 😊 Wonderful! It is a good starter wheel. Enjoy your new home studio. In case you haven't seen this video on what to do with your clay water here is the link for you ruclips.net/video/0poHnH6JG-o/видео.html 👍
I just found your channel about a month ago and I'm hooked. I've been wanting to start making pottery but was a little apprehensive. Not any more. You gave me the courage to start my in home pottery studio. In a few days I will be purchasing this wheel through the site you provided. Any small thing I can do to thank you for all you have done makes me happy.
That is GREAT to hear. 😍 Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery. Making pottery can seem compilated at times. I try to simplify it for beginner potters. I feel if I start getting too technical that may steer them away. Any questions or suggestions feel free to let me know. 😊
Yes you are right. I have the Artista which is similar to the Aspire. They are better wheels. This pottery wheel is mainly for beginners and potters that don't want to invest that much in a wheel yet. 😊
Thanks Marie for an informative review of this wheel! It would be wonderful now to see a video in which you share with us what you like to make on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. LOVE your videos of projects from start to finish. SO inspiring. You are so generous with how-to videos and I'd love to see what you like to create "just for yourself" and how you decide that on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Thanks again for all you do. I continue to be grateful for your channel.
Hi again. I have purchased one of these, and verified that with a 6 inch bat pin spacing, the 10 inch plastic bats intended for the Shimpo Aspire wheel work perfectly on this wheel. (Masonite alternatives, which cost a bit less, should be fine too!)
Thanks for reviewing this wheel. I thought about buying one of these as a first wheel but was worried that it would wobble so I ended up buying a clay boss. I can’t believe it is under $200.
Nice review, thank you. This looks fine for my use case. I'm really intrigued by pottery but as a student the more professional ones are too expensive and I thought I'd have to give up on it. Happy to see there is decent cheaper options
Hi love your channel. I have a similar wheel. My splash pan does not come off. Wish it did. I did not know the Horse Power of mine but its 250 watts so 1/2 horse. Good to know. I sit at mine its a bit low. I need to raise it up a bit. I have been afraid to put larger amounts of clay on it but now ill start with more knowing the hp of it. Thanks for the review. Allen
Thank you Allen.😍 Mine is 350 watts which is almost 1/2 horsepower. Yours is 1/3 horsepower which is still pretty good. I would test out and see how handles more clay.
I buy the same pottery wheel that you used in your video about pottery wheels my one is greens and my other one is blue I got 2 wheels one is a foot pedal the other one is a lever one I like the great pottery throw down 😂❤
Hi. I love your videos! This one is great for us beginners and I didn’t even know there were wheels this size. My birthday is next month and I know what I am asking for! You have a great t aching style and I have learned so much from you!
Hi Barb, Happy birthday next month! Yes, it is great for beginners that start out with small amounts of clay. I actually use a small chair with mine 😀 Thank you so much barb. Glad to help you on your pottery-making journey.
Glad it helped! If you don't already know, I also have over 100 videos for you to choose from to help and give you ideas. Here is the link for you. ruclips.net/user/PotteryCraftersvideos 😊
You're welcome 😊 I use it mainly for trimming but I still think it's a great little starter wheel. You can always upgrade. It's nice to have an extra wheel around to throw with a friend or take to someone's house like I do.
Thanks for this video, Marie ... it's made me realize that if a pro can make this wheel work for them so can I! I bought one from Amazon, but the first one had an electrical problem, and I had to return it. The replacement one seems to work. I tried throwing something on it today, but I had a hard time finding somewhere to sit that was low enough. I found myself bent over rather uncomfortably. It was hard to use my legs (and impossible to use the splash pan) as a brace for centring the clay. You used the wheel standing up, and you made a comment that you thought it might be helpful for those with bad backs ... how does throwing while standing work for you? I think I'm going to have to try that or find some sort of platform to set it on ...
Yes you are right the splash pan is not good for bracing to center. You can brace your arms on the side of your body. And yes you can find something with the right height to sit or stand. 😊
I bought a wheel very similar to this to have at home for trimming. I go to a community studio to throw. They have some nice Brent wheels. I can’t always get to the studio at the right time to trim so I bring my wet pieces home and then I can trim them as soon as they are ready. This was a great purchase for me 🙂
Very cool Laura. 👍 Did I tell you that I use my SKYTOU mainly for trimming also? My Giffin Grip fits great on it. Which by the way costs more than the wheel 😀😊
@@PotteryCrafters I’m debating getting a giffin grip for my wheel but they are so expensive. I’ve only been throwing since January so I have so much to learn. Tap centering is hard for me. Im so impatient 🙁
That's a great idea. One of my viewers saw it too. It's like a mini one. I haven't tried it but she said she loved it and worked well. Of course, it's only used for small pieces. If you get it let me know how it works. 😊👍
Thank you for your perfect review, I really love it , and I was thinking of buying it , I could buy it now without any worry , ‘caz i want to starts at clay thing , tysm.. 🤍
That's wonderful to hear😍 It's so much fun to create with clay on the wheel. I really like this little wheel. I throw small things and trim on this wheel. 😊
You were very helpful. Thank you so much for this video. I've been wanting to do this for years but life just gets busier and crazier, you know. Though I don't give up on this dream, so I just added this pottery wheel machine in my list! Also I just subscribed and hit the bell in order to watch all of your videos. Thank you so much!
You are most welcome Elsey. Welcome to the wonderful world of pottery crafting. 😍 I think it's a great beginner wheel. I still use mine for throwing from time to time but mainly use it trimming. So if you getting a bigger wheel someday you can still use this one. Here is the link for you to check out geni.us/r1VewMF
Hi Barbi, I just did an article on different bats and how to use them and did not run across the tar paper bats. I will look into it and ask my potter friends. Thank you for letting me know. 😊 In the meantime I think this article may help. I show how to attach a bat without bat holes. Here is the link for you. potterycrafters.com/how-to-use-bats-on-a-pottery-wheel/
Thanks for asking. You can get it here Giffin Grip geni.us/kt97CBs (amazon) I do all of my trimming with it on this pottery wheel. I love it 😍 it's so convenient. I take the splash off and put plastic around it to catch the clay.
That is a very good question. Because all kilns shut off after they reach the firing temperature or cone limit, then cool down on their own unless you would program a hold or slow cooldown on your kiln. 😊
I am in search of a wheel and I’ve been put off by the price and the lead time. Thank you so much for this very informative video. Can you please create alternatives to expensive slab rollers or pug mills? Thank you so much
Glad it was helpful! 😊 Unfortunately, I have not found an alternative for a pugmill yet. Did you see my ware board video where I make slabs of clay without a slab roller? ruclips.net/video/m9qD-DSNMZk/видео.html hope this helps 😃
I was thinking of making a video about slab rollers and the alternative. I"ll let you know when I do. I'm glad you let me know because I gave you the wrong link ruclips.net/video/FNzQiAsUQsc/видео.html this is the correct one.
Im not really considered an amature and have thrown many pots with equipment access from other sourses. I am on a strict budget and I have never owned my own wheel. Do you recommend this potters wheel over Shimpo or Brent for the price or is this more for the beginner?
Great question Mike.😊 I would consider this wheel more for beginners because it's good for throwing smaller pieces. But if you are on a limited budget and are not going to throw big pieces. It may be better than not having a wheel at all. Something to consider. You can also check out this review post to see if one of these wheels would suit you. potterycrafters.com/pottery-wheels-reviewed/ Keep in mind the wheels like Shimpo and Brent are built to last so if you plan on throwing for many years they are a good investment. 😊
@@PotteryCrafters I saw this on Amazon, but wasn't too sure about it since it was pretty affordable compared to others. I'm going to take a couple more pottery classes then try to make my own pottery at home! :)
It's so much fun to throw on the wheel. Thank you for sharing. If you would like the wheel that I have you can hit (SHOW MORE) under the video. I left a link for you. 😊
I would recommend the Skutt 8X6 firebox LT. It's great for a few items, and when you get a bigger one, you can use it for test tiles and when you don't want to fire a big load 😊
I know isn't it a great little wheel for the price😍 I did that. my splash pan was not connected correctly on the bottom area of the wheel. double-check that area. Hopeful that's it. 👍
That's great to hear. I personally think it's a great wheel for the price. And a great beginner wheel, especially if you are not going make large pieces. 💖
Great review, thank you for sharing! I went to a couples pottery class with my girlfriend the other day and absolutely fell in love with it. I made a vase and they even said I'm a natural! I thought... maybe I am so I started looking into pottery wheels and such. What I don't understand, at amateur level, I can't possibly have a kiln to fire my creations. How can I create something that will be usable and not just decoration without a kiln :(
That's great.😊 Welcome to the world of pottery crafting. It does come naturally to some people. I was just like you, I fell in love with throwing on the wheel right away. Unfortunately, you need a kiln to make useable food-safe pottery. You could check in your area and see if anyone rents kiln space, or get a very small test kiln.
Measure how high you want your wheel to be. Hopefully you will have something sturdy around to set it on. Like cinderblocks. Or you may have to build a short bench or have someone build it. If you have a Lowes or home depot around they will cut the wood for you. just make sure it's sturdy.
Hi Marie love your video thank you for sharing your expertise. I am just in love with pottery, I did not have any lessons about it yet, but I am planning too. My daughter also show some interest and she had lesson already. I was thinking for future business or maybe just a hobby that we can get some money in the side. What is the best machine you would recommend for a beginner.
Wonderful! If you are serious about pottery making then I would go with this CXC geni.us/VFbap If you are not sure yet Then I would go with this one to start. geni.us/r1VewMF If you want to upgrade then you would have a wheel for both you and your daughter to use. If you are thinking of a business here is a link to an informative post potterycrafters.com/starting-a-pottery-business/ 😍
Hey There, I'm an absolute dummy when it comes to pottery, I'm open to suggestions in terms of which Pottery wheel to go for from the short term to long term. Any help is appreciated.
We all are when we start out 😊I think this post should help you decide. Here is the link for you. potterycrafters.com/recommended-tools-pottery-wheels/ If you have anymore questions feel free to ask
Thanks for making this video, I always learn a lot from you :) I have a similar wheel, but it has been a nightmare because of the speed. I think it is still a bit fast at its minimum speed. Did you have the same issue? if so, is there a way to slow it down?
You're welcome Katharina 😊 No I haven't. They don't sell it here in The US or on Amazon here. It looks just like the U.S. Art Supply Table Top Pottery Wheel. But for $200 US dollars less than the Art supply wheel. If it is I would get it. I know the US art supply wheel is a good wheel. I have a few potter friends that one. They say it's a good portable wheel. If you get it let me know how you like it. 😊
Hey Marie. Thanks for the review! I wondered, with added bat-pins, would there be enough clearance around the wheel to use standard 12" bats, or would the splash pan be too close to the wheel? Thanks, again!
You're welcome. 😊 That is a very good question. You will have enough clearance with this bat geni.us/716L It has 9-inch holes. You are right the splash will get in the way with the 12-inch bat. You would have to take the splash pan off. I love to throw wet so that wouldn't work for me 😀
Hi, I'm looking to purchase one of these and start my self taught throwing journey! I have no idea where to begin but getting a wheel and some clay sounds like a start lol is this wheel usable without the bat pins? unsure what the difference is without it. Also, any recommendations on which clay to start with? thank you for this helpful review!

I just got one of these and the only problem is the wheel itself. Was your wheel smooth when you got it? Aside from the normal concentric circles, mine has these grooved circles all across the wheel like a record. I've looked at a lot of reviews and none say anything about this. I feel like they'll make it way harder to take things off the wheel, and if trimming, would prob dig in and create ridges on the rim that I'd have to smooth later on.
That is a very good question. I have ridges also; they help to hold the clay to the wheel. The wheel will not leave ridges on the bottom because you remove the pot with a wire cutter. For trimming - It depends on how dry your clay is when you trim. I have never had ridge patterns left on the rim when I trimmed. If you do trim when your clay is softer, and the wheel would leave any marks, you can just smooth the clay over with your finger after trimming. Enjoy your new wheel 😊
Hi Stevey. Yes, I believe you are referring to checking the thickness of the clay on the bottom of the piece. You want to make sure it is at least a quarter inch thick or more because you lose clay on the bottom if you remove the pot with a wire tool or if you trim the bottom. 😊
I just bought my wife one of these machines right before finding this video. I noticed you said you were setting the direction to counter-clockwise. Does the direction the wheel is spinning affect the clay to where certain objects are made certain ways, or is it just personal preference? And she’s news to this, what type of clay would you recommend for first timers? Also, are there any brands to stay away from that may not fire as well as others? Thanks!
That's great 😊👍 Good questions. The direction counterclockwise is for right-handed potters and clockwise if you are left-handed. 😊 This will help you pick the right clay. Here is the link for you. potterycrafters.com/best-pottery-clay-for-beginners/
Welcome to the wonderful art of pottery making. 😍 It's the SKYTOU Pottery Wheel Pottery Forming Machine and you can get it here geni.us/r1VewMF on amazon
Sure Paulo, Here is a full review for you. potterycrafters.com/skytou-pottery-wheel-pottery-forming-machine-owners-review/ It has really come in handy for me as a second wheel.😊
I bought a vevor wheel with three legs similar to this one just different body. And the wheel head itself has a wobble. What should I do? I can send it back but I don't know if they'll just send me another wobbly wheel.
Hi Christa. That has not happened with any of the wheels I have bought or used at friend's houses or class studios. Yes, you should send it back and order a new one. Hopefully, it will not have the same problem. 😊
@@PotteryCrafters thank you so much I wasn't sure because it's such a cheap wheel but this is good to know. I've already started the process of sending it back.
Very good question. I don't know what it was. It didn't affect my throwing at all, and it went away after a few uses. Let me know how yours is and if it goes away. I do mainly trim it now, but I still don't hear anything. She's actually pretty smooth. 😍
PLEASE could you answer a question for me? I've just bought the Shimpo Aspire. When the wheel starts turning, there is a quiet "tapping" sound coming from the motor. When it gets faster and to full speed, the tapping sound is more prominent (and slightly annoying). Could you please let me know if your Shimpos also have this tapping sound, or if you can only here the normal constant hum of the motor? Kind regards, Richard.
@@PotteryCrafters thank you very much for replying. I only got it today and I thought the tapping sound wasn't right, so I'll give the suppliers a call in the morning. Many thanks 🙏
I bought one of these too, when my plate comes into contact with water and clay it releases a bit of black liquid, is this normal? it looks like iron powder that melts
@@PotteryCrafters thank you soo much for replying my message!, I'm looking for a wheel for my wife to stat doing pottery (she's been wishing to get into this for a long time).. i was looking for a pro table for her bday but she seemed to prefer for me to get het this one since she will be learning with it and of course, seeing how much she does actually like it.. but still once she get all her skills I'm thinking she will want to move to a more advanced wheel too, i have seen you use the Brent CXC Wheel... is that the one you would recommend as her pro wheel?.. also, would she need the giffin from the begging or is it something she will need later on?... and lastly (sorry for asking soo many questions) is there any kind of starters tool kit that you can recommend to buy to set her ready for starting on her Bday? thank you so much!!!
That is wonderful! What a great gift. 😊 Very good idea to start out with the small wheel first until she decides to go pro. Then yes I would recommend the Brent CXC. It is a great wheel. The Giffin Grip is great for beginners that struggle with centering when they trim. It sure has saved me a lot of time over the years. 😍 I would recommend getting this set of tools because it has everything she will need to throw and decorate with in the beginning. geni.us/ZXlciwN Let me how it goes. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
That's a really good question Ria. Since I just got it I can't say for sure, but when I was doing research on them before I got mine someone had posted that he was going to buy a full-size wheel but this little pottery wheel was still going strong after a lot of use. I hope this helps. 😀
Hi Marie, just an update. I got this kind of wheel. I was able to make decent pots with 250g of clay. Great for succulents. This wheel is slow compared to the regular ones. And slows down too when trying to center that's why I just use small amount of clay. This is basically good for beginner hobby potters. Or for trimming. This is a good spare wheel. 😊
Sorry to hear that. Are you going to return it and order another one? I'm using this little Machine more than I thought I would. I mainly use mine for trimming.😊
Hello I bought this wheel but I can't tell if it's centered or lopsided when it's spinning. Is there a way I can tell if it's ok or if I need to return it?
Very good question Ashly. First, make sure your feet are level on the surface you placed it on then use a leveler to make sure the wheel head is level. Also, Check with your finger or modeling tool and check if it's level like you do when you center your pots before trimming.😊
Hi Rebecca, welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery. You can start out with air dry clay until you can get a kiln. You can make decorative things and seal them but they won't be food-safe or waterproof. Here is the link for the best air dry clay on the wheel. ruclips.net/video/iLt4nqLkUqw/видео.html and post potterycrafters.com/can-air-dry-clay-be-used-on-a-pottery-wheel/ Also the link to the SKYTOU geni.us/r1VewMF If you have any questions feel free to ask 👍😊
Hi Elizabeth. It is holding up great. I do use it mainly for trimming, but It still works just fine. Enjoy your new wheel. I think it's a good beginner wheel. 😊
I just bought one of these, one question, do I really need to add bats to it, or is it ok to throw on the metal and remove to a scrape piece of plywood?
Cool 😊 Good question. No, you don't need bat holes. I have a video on removing your pot from the wheel without a bat that may help ruclips.net/video/-b-YZeW7XNE/видео.html 😀
Yes I put it in a bucket and take the clear water out off the top. I allow the water to evaporate. Throw vinegar in the bucket from time to time to avoid the mold. Then use the clay for slip or dry it out more and recycle it. So sorry to hear that. Yes, clay will stick to pipes and clog your drain over time. You can also get a sink trap. Here is the link for you to check out geni.us/Ju9KG7
Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on this machine. I've just bought one of these as a Christmas present for my girlfriend. When I turn it on and watch it from the side the wheel head wobbles slightly. It also makes a thudding sound once you start to turn it up past the slowest speed, which I can't hear in this video but I believe is what's being referred to. How detrimental is the wobbling when it comes to actually trying to throw? Should I return it straight away and ask for a replacement or does it not matter? Alternatively, is there an easy fix which I can maybe do myself?
So sorry to hear that. 😞 Yes, I heard thudding but it was small, and I really don't hear it anymore since I've been using it. No, the wheel head should not be wobbling. I think you have a defective wheel. That does happen from time to time. I would suggest sending it back for a replacement. Hope this helps.
No Barbi. That's a good suggestion I'll try that. Thanks. I do have a post on Bats and how to attach them without bat pins. Here is the link if you want to check it out potterycrafters.com/how-to-use-bats-on-a-pottery-wheel/ 😊
Good question Samantha. Yes, that could throw off your centering especially when you're new to throwing on the wheel. Your wheel should be level. I have a level in my studio to check my wheels from time to time. It should be easier to center after you level your wheel head.😊
@@PotteryCrafters thank you, the base was level but not the wheel head, making the wheel head level, I found the frame was off completely, had to block the legs n used cement to raise it up. We had to buy a inexpensive unit...,,(
The people who sold me mine must if thought it for damaged in delivery, their sending the plate, she said...they want us to replace it. I guess I shouldn't have bought a cheap unit. I don't think delivery is damaged I thought maybe they didn't check if it was straight, 5he base is but not the wheel part I level the plate and blocked frame it worked better but it's going back.
Bought the 36cm last month because it had a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, the wheel head is off-centered and wobbling. VEVOR's customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. Their website says 30-day no-hassle returns, but getting a new wheel has been the biggest hassle ever! Their first reply was for me to wait 3 weeks for a repair kit so that I could fix it myself. We've gone back and forth several times and each time they refuse to let me return the wheel - they keep upping the incentive to keep it. So far they're giving me $125 to keep it. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have no idea and now I'm stuck with an off-centered pottery wheel.
It's good to see you throw barefoot. our posture goes all the way to our feet. Shoes suck. Cept there is 30' path with 4' of snow between me and my shop.
@@PotteryCrafters The way you stand, the ergonomics of it, keeping your wings tucked and use your center of gravity and leverage, instead of wearing out you muscles to influence the clay. That starts from the ground up. It's how you work full days and not empty a bottle of Tylenol a week. You don't even realize what some of us are learning from observing you?🙃 I learn more from watching people do stuff I already know. . . .or think I already know how to do. The more I know, the more I observe and use what I see. "Howdudodat?" "Crap, back it up 15 seconds" is my end of our conversations while I watch. I hope they count as extra views for you. Lol It sure has helped me. Thanks.
Very good question Barbi. 😍 I started making an update, and got busy with other things and had to put it on hold. I'm still using it when I travel but mainly use it for trimming and decorating at home. Of course, it is not as good as my brent CXC that costs 10 times more. But I am surprised at how well it does work for a wheel less than $200. I still think it's a good starter wheel and if you choose to upgrade it's still good as a second wheel for trimming, decorating, and even spray glazing. 😊
Good question David😊 The clay dry dries out on its own. This can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. Once it is bone dry, that's when unfortunatly you need a kiln to turn the clay into ceramics. Hopefully you can find someone that has one or rent the kiln space, or get a small kiln.
That would depend on how much room you have for a kiln and the power supply. Check out the kiln questions video, I think that will help. It would be nice if you were able to get one. 😍
Not *that* relaxing (Im a total failure, as of this post) I have zero experience with a wheel, but got a very similar one from Amazon. It has the same motor and deck specs, but it's orange, has a non-removable, single compartment pan and a remote foot pedal. It was regular $126.99, I got it used for $78. It has only the plastic tools, which I find completely useless and the sponge. Although its not exactly the same, this review gives me a bit more confidence in my purchase. Theres nothing more frustrating than not being able to tell if your problem is you, or your tools. Now, I know 👍
It does take time to learn. I remember when I started throwing, it took me longer to center than it did to make the pot. By the time my clay was centered, I had half the amount of clay, I started with. I just kept trying. I think it's a good starter wheel. You are not going to be making 10-pound pots to start with anyway. 😊 That's funny I found those plastic tools to be completely useless too. 😀
@@PotteryCrafters Mostly I don't have enough clay. I try, fail, try, fail and then I have a handful of mud that has to dry out. It doesn't take long to gi through the ~15lb I have on hand. But, Im starting to figure it out. Its just a lot more delicate work than I expected.
Keep trying and it will come to you . If you haven't seen it this video it may help. Here is the link for you ruclips.net/video/eiJg_T4I0LU/видео.html 😊

I think it stopped because i put pressure on it. I tried coning but when i pushed it down, it slows down the wheel. Tried it few times and i can't seem to pull and push properly. Do you know what happened to it and what should i do?
Sorry to hear that. I have had mine for almost a year with no problems. I was just trimming with it this afternoon. It sounds like you got a defective one. I hope you are able to return it. 😊
It should not have stopped if you put pressure on the wheel. It's not an expansive wheel but it still should not be doing that. I wish I could help. I haven't had to trouble shout mine yet. hopefully not at all. 😊
What a nice lady, very nice voice. Thanks for your time.

I have seen on a bunch of reviews of these + a family member has one, they supposedly don't do well with more than 2-3 lbs of clay
@@salaryman5727, I did see a review where she threw 10lbs of clay on it and it did really good even with that amount. 👍🏻
That is good to hear. Thank you for sharing 😊
I bought the same Equipment from Amazon. Now it’s been almost two months and had little use since I am still taking lessons. Your reviews make me feel great I bought this.
That's great. So far I have made a few small bowls, decorate and trim on it😍 I really love trimming on it. Hope it works for you too 😊
I totally agree! I feel great after seing this vid
Thank you for this! I’m in the uk and bought a wheel the same as this- it’s perfect for my beginners ‘spare room’pottery studio. 😊
The Shimpo Aspire was the best of middle ground time tested wheels for me. Much more portable and much better put together but it did cost more.
Yes you are right. I have the Artista which is similar to the Aspire. They are better wheels. This pottery wheel is mainly for beginners and potters that don't want to invest that much in a wheel yet. 😊
You have a wonderful voice and a great teacher.
Thank you so much Anne 😍
Thanks Marie for an informative review of this wheel! It would be wonderful now to see a video in which you share with us what you like to make on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. LOVE your videos of projects from start to finish. SO inspiring. You are so generous with how-to videos and I'd love to see what you like to create "just for yourself" and how you decide that on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Thanks again for all you do. I continue to be grateful for your channel.
Thank you so much MaryJean 😍 That's a good idea. I will put it on my list. It's so much fun to create functional art out of a lump of clay. 💖
Hi again. I have purchased one of these, and verified that with a 6 inch bat pin spacing, the 10 inch plastic bats intended for the Shimpo Aspire wheel work perfectly on this wheel. (Masonite alternatives, which cost a bit less, should be fine too!)
Thanks for the info!😀 That's great. I mainly use it for trimming because I like to use bats 😊
Thanks for reviewing this wheel. I thought about buying one of these as a first wheel but was worried that it would wobble so I ended up buying a clay boss. I can’t believe it is under $200.
I know I was surprised by how well it worked for the price and so far it is not wobbly. I think it's a great starter wheel.😊
Can u give me the link to the one you bought?
Thanks for asking 😊 I found mine on Amazon here is the link for you.

Thank you Mandy. What a wonderful compliment. 😍 There was only one Bob Ross and they were never able to replace him.
Thanks for the tip about leveling the wheel as I feel that I was having issues...will check it now🙂
That's great Alexandra, so glad it helped 😍 Let me know how it goes. So far mine is throwing pretty good.
Nice review, thank you. This looks fine for my use case. I'm really intrigued by pottery but as a student the more professional ones are too expensive and I thought I'd have to give up on it. Happy to see there is decent cheaper options
Glad it was helpful! It is a good starter wheel. I use it mainly for trimming.😊
That's a really nice wheel. I think it would be a great second wheel also!!!
Thank you for showing it to us
Thank you, Vicki, around 25 pounds, it's mobile too😍.
I buy the same pottery wheel that you used in your video about pottery wheels my one is greens
and my other one is blue I got 2 wheels one is a foot pedal the other one is a lever one
I like the great pottery throw down 😂❤
Oh wow! 2 wheels come in handy. The great pottery throw down is great. I love seeing the different talents and creativity.
I guess you could put a little washcloth on the knob of the lever to make clean up easier

this was a super useful review! (expecting mine to arrive soon) - Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! It's a great starter wheel. I use it mainly for trimming and when I have friends over and need to use more than 1 wheel.
It sounds more like the casing or the pan rattling, so you'll probably be able to reduce the sound somehow if you can figure it out...
Thank you so much for the advice. I will check it out 😊
Thanks, very helpful, I would have written this off on Amazon otherwise
I was never a fan of tap centering either. Maybe you can find a used Giffin grip. They last forever. 😊
@@PotteryCrafters I saw a similar item on Amazon that is only $69! I’m considering trying it. That would be awesome if it works

Could you, please, demo using alternative bats on this wheel? I am very interested in learning about tar paper bats.

Where did you purchase the grip wheel so if I’m buying that pottery wheel I could buy that grip as well
Thanks for asking. You can get it here Giffin Grip
geni.us/kt97CBs (amazon) I do all of my trimming with it on this pottery wheel. I love it 😍 it's so convenient. I take the splash off and put plastic around it to catch the clay.
Please, what is the sense in setting the TIME of firring on sitter kiln if it stops as soon as temperature reaches the CONE LIMIT temperature?
That is a very good question. Because all kilns shut off after they reach the firing temperature or cone limit, then cool down on their own unless you would program a hold or slow cooldown on your kiln. 😊
Thank you so much for your very informative video. You have such a lovely calming character too, I've subscribed 😁

Thanks! I jost got it! Wanted to know how to not mess it up🙈🤣
Glad I could help! Mine still works good. It's a great starter wheel. 😊
How did you raise your pottery wheel? I was thinking about using bed raisers, but this wheel doesn't really have legs
Measure how high you want your wheel to be. Hopefully you will have something sturdy around to set it on. Like cinderblocks. Or you may have to build a short bench or have someone build it. If you have a Lowes or home depot around they will cut the wood for you. just make sure it's sturdy.

Thank you, Lis. Sorry to hear that. No, I have not had a problem with the wheel speed. It actually has worked great for the price of the wheel. 😊
Thanks Marie for the review - have you looked at the AIRGOO AG60 as well, or do you have any information about that weel?

You're welcome Stephani. Enjoy the journey. If you have any questions feel free to ask. 😊
What we’re you doing when you used the tool? Like poked it to check something it looked like

You're welcome, Christa. That's good to hear. My cheaper wheel still works well. 😊
What is that thumping caused by? I got one and it also does that slight thumping :( Is that going to effect anything you think?
Good question. No the Shimpo Aspire should not be making a tapping noise. The Shimpo Nidec is known for it's quiet purr.
@@PotteryCrafters thank you very much for replying. I only got it today and I thought the tapping sound wasn't right, so I'll give the suppliers a call in the morning. Many thanks 🙏
That's good. It's always best to ask. 😊
I bought one of these too, when my plate comes into contact with water and clay it releases a bit of black liquid, is this normal? it looks like iron powder that melts
I have not experienced that with my wheel. It shouldn't be doing that. If it doesn't go away you should return it.

Good point. Probably. I'm not a fan of the darker clay and don't use it as much. But I'm trying to. 😊
Thanks for reviewing this one out. Thinking of getting one of these. Do you think it can last for a long time?

Hi I’m thinking about buying, how bad was the thumping you noticed
Good question Dylan. I hardly notice it when I'm throwing and not at all when I trim. I think for the price it's a great wheel 😊
I ordered one of these, but sadly it arrived damaged. Had to return it. I planned to use it for trimming.
Sorry to hear that. Are you going to return it and order another one? I'm using this little Machine more than I thought I would. I mainly use mine for trimming.😊
@@PotteryCrafters yes I returned it and plan on ordering another one 🙂

Hello I bought this wheel but I can't tell if it's centered or lopsided when it's spinning. Is there a way I can tell if it's ok or if I need to return it?
Very good question Ashly. First, make sure your feet are level on the surface you placed it on then use a leveler to make sure the wheel head is level. Also, Check with your finger or modeling tool and check if it's level like you do when you center your pots before trimming.😊
new to pottery here... do you have to buy a kiln or does the clay air dry and can you just paint it with something to seal it?

There is a little hole next to the middle of the pedal on the left side of the pedal next to the wheel. It's a tight fit. You just screw in.😊
How did it hold up?! I just bought one!

Where do you throw the dirty water in the bucket? I put it down my sink and it wrecked my garbage disposal.
@@PotteryCrafters Thanks for your reply, I appreciate your help.
Just got one today!
It also has a little thump in the wheel head while spinning. Anyone found a way to fix that?
Oh fun. No but it does not effect my throwing or trimming. If yours affects your throwing then I would suggest returning it and trying another.
Okey dokey! Thanks for writing back! :)
Have you tried using roofing paper for bats on this little guy?
No Barbi. That's a good suggestion I'll try that. Thanks. I do have a post on Bats and how to attach them without bat pins. Here is the link if you want to check it out potterycrafters.com/how-to-use-bats-on-a-pottery-wheel/ 😊
Would a crooked pottery wheel head being off1/4-5/8 of an inch cause problems with centering clay?.
We had to buy a inexpensive unit...,,(
@@PotteryCrafters thank you
The people who sold me mine must if thought it for damaged in delivery, their sending the plate, she said...they want us to replace it. I guess I shouldn't have bought a cheap unit. I don't think delivery is damaged I thought maybe they didn't check if it was straight, 5he base is but not the wheel part I level the plate and blocked frame it worked better but it's going back.
That's good news thanks for letting me know. Are you going to replace it or get a different brand. 😊
Is there a foot pedal?
Good question Laura. Yes there is, but it's attached to the side of the wheel, right next to the hand lever. 😊
“What doesn’t get messy when you work with clay.” 🙂
😆😄😀 So true. I left clay marks on things I swore I never touched 😆😃😅
Sorry to hear that. They should replace it. I checked and there is no one I know that can fix that type of wheel.
@@PotteryCrafters Yes, they should. We're working on it, but they want to just give me money to fix it myself. Fingers crossed!
🤞 Hope you can find someone to fix it!
your link for the wheel doesn't go anywhere now. you might want to update that.
Thank you for letting me know. Here is the link. Let me know if it works for you geni.us/r1VewMF 😊
I want to give this to my wife so you recommended ?
I have had it for almost a year now. I travel with. It comes in handy, I also use it a lot for trimming. I think it's a great starter wheel. 😍
It's good to see you throw barefoot. our posture goes all the way to our feet. Shoes suck. Cept there is 30' path with 4' of snow between me and my shop.
Thank you. Yes I agree.👍 If I could go barefoot all the time, I would. 😍
Thanks.
Very good points. Thank you 😍
Any updates now that yo had it a while?
Very good question Barbi. 😍 I started making an update, and got busy with other things and had to put it on hold. I'm still using it when I travel but mainly use it for trimming and decorating at home. Of course, it is not as good as my brent CXC that costs 10 times more. But I am surprised at how well it does work for a wheel less than $200. I still think it's a good starter wheel and if you choose to upgrade it's still good as a second wheel for trimming, decorating, and even spray glazing. 😊
How much was this ?
Hi Gracey. It's under $200 Here is the link for you to check it out geni.us/r1VewMF
So how does someone dry these without a kiln?
Good question David😊 The clay dry dries out on its own. This can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. Once it is bone dry, that's when unfortunatly you need a kiln to turn the clay into ceramics. Hopefully you can find someone that has one or rent the kiln space, or get a small kiln.
@@PotteryCrafters any suggestions or resources for a kiln to buy? Thank you!
That would depend on how much room you have for a kiln and the power supply. Check out the kiln questions video, I think that will help. It would be nice if you were able to get one. 😍
Not *that* relaxing (Im a total failure, as of this post)
I have zero experience with a wheel, but got a very similar one from Amazon.

A guitar pick is an excellent tool.

Mostly I don't have enough clay.
Hi, i got almost the same wheel but it suddenly stopped working. It won't turn on even if i plug it into the socket. I'm just new to wheels. Hope you can help me. I can't seem to find a solution for this china made wheels on google 😭
Camera to far away 😐
Thank you for letting me know. 😊
