Super late to this but glad I found it. I personally believe they did consummate the marriage. Katherine had every reason to lie, regardless of her piety. She also had a confessor before she died, which she took alone. My guess is she maintained the lie for her daughters sake, and ourged herself of sin before she died.

I aways figured that if she was going to go to the grave claiming they didnt, she wouldn't endanger her immortal soul.

Queen of England was the Identity taught to Katherine from her toddler years. Her mother was a bad-Azz Warrior. I think her stubbornness regarding ‘ retirement’ is just who she is & convinced herself this was her Duty.

I think they would have both been very aware of their duties that night...and they were teenagers...nobody questions it and Dona Elvira may not have KOA's complete confidence..she reported to her mother after all. I think later on Katherine would have done whatever it took to hang on to her position.

I think it’s a no. Katherine’s piety appears to have been stronger than justifying the telling of a white lie for the greater good; she was also a woman of ultimate integrity and would have never confronted Henry by telling him to look at his own conscience in such a public setting

This episode was amazing. But a bit distracting, when I'm trying to translate from one language to another.

The consumption issue aside, she ( Catherine) didn’t live to see Henry execute by beheading two of his wives. He definitely could have developed that propensity as a problem solving for Catherine so how fickle was his emotion? It wasn’t a love match but a political alliance and stuck to that purpose regardless of her religion, martial status to Arthur , and inability to provide another male heir. Being very family with the extra Y’ chromosome issue and genetic compliance, difference partners have different difficult pregnancies based on theirs mother’s medical history. The number of failed pregnancies has little to do with the fact that the number of each women’s viable eggs is limited. the closer to the end of her child bearing years had to have been a mental pressure more than a physical one in continuous the marriage. She was lucky to keep her head. The question is why after all other avenues to end the marriage were exhausted why did he not take the ultimate step and end her life? I tend to believe it was love for Catherine and not frustrated caused by Anne that spared her. It’s over looked that she was older but not necessarily wiser when it came to being ‘chase’ and being ‘chased’ for political position not physical ones.

Coming late to see this but I am in the fraction no, theydidn't consumate marriage. My reasoning is that Arthur seemed to be more sensitive and Catherine was thrown into a completely new background, they both were very young and rather bashful I might say, so thinking about this I think both of them would have needed more time into the marriage to consume it to settle down, to trust each other and for Catherine being able to talk in English. Sexual relationships r grounded in trust, in attractiveness or pure Lust. We can assume that pure Lust did not occur for the two teenagers though maybe curiosity but I highly doubt they felt immediate attraction to each other. After all they were strangers to each other. I even doubt that a lot marriage nights were actually consummated if the spouses just happened to know each other for a short time and still be in their teens. (needless to say when they were married before even reaching puberty). I think we have to keep in mind that sexuality was a delicate thing back than as it is today. I don't even think that anyone expected them to jump between the sheets right at the wedding night why it was not questioned as long as Arthur was still alive and it just became a topic of interest after his death.
