I think that if you want to make your base as a tree fort, then you could have like 10 double chests worth of oil, and you just take monthly trips to the oil pond to fill your need for another month.
thats a similar idea to mine i think something like that would be good, plus a tree fort near water would look much nicer then at the tree next to the oil pond so i 100% agree that that is the way to go!
You should make your parking lot in the desert and park your vehicles kinda into the fuel pool, so when your not using the car its pumping directly into the car after getting crafted.
1:55 Becouse its times you can use, like portion. You cant use half of a circuit. But you can use one bag of soil 5 times becouse it has that much dirt inside. Same with seeds etc.
I'm currently doing a play though with my mate and we got the triangle oil water and chemicals with a tree in the middle of all three. Tree base has started 🙂👍
Set up a mini base at the oil pond while the other explores and raids. Bit of advice: You can set up a water or vacuum cannon aimed downwards with a button and if you stand under it with a bucket it will fill the bucket. Build vacuum pump and water tank, fill them full with water and bring that to the oil location. Build that setup explained previously and start farming at the oil spot until you find a spot to really set up at.
Kan, I love your videos so much. I wait every single day for you to post them. These really make may day. Sadly I live in q completely different time zone to yours.... Thanks for the amazing videos and the daily posts!
I'd love to see you guys make a roving base, probably using controllers (or too many engines) for locomotion, complete with multiple resource collectors, refineries, and craft bots. Maybe even build it in the ocean so you don't have to worry about rough terrain, but then locomotion and buoyancy are an issue.
kan: "dont hit the cow" 5 mins later "dont hit the cow" me when i play: * hits every cow that goes in front of me * hope vegetarians will not read this-
I always love your vids, glad your still making ScrapMech content! Water is crucial! any base should be near a water supply... (for farming etc) but also for oil!
IMHO, (and I commented this on Kosmo's video). This is similar to my current map (1 oil pond, nowhere near chemicals or water) I'd go for the water base, and get a truck and 4 large chests for fuel. Go for your treehouse near water, especially if you're going for your "auto-farm" like your solo map.
Why don’t settle near the second mechanic station in the lake valley? I don’t know if you have seen it but it’s really beautiful place and it’s got ember, glue, oil not so far away and a nice trees for perhaps a tree house. Me and my friends are settled there and we absolutely love it! Keep up the good work :))
guys there's up to 4 packing stations if u want to find em all, and also a chemical factory with a launch pad (maybe 2 but i litteraly went throught my whole map and i saw only one)
I've got the "perfect" way to solve your problem, you can still have a "tree fort" and be next to your oil pond if you just build a long plank from the tree to the oil pond, and build the actual base off of the long plank, it totally won't take like 3 months of grinding trees.
IDEA The cliff next to the oil pond Put your crops on top and have defenses around the oil pond and the base of the cliff The only thing that can actually do damage is the big red guy and tapebots if they have good aim And just have a stationary pump for fuel, have a pump truck for chemicals and water, and boom good base!
You dont have oil near water... so if you have to have oil, then you cant have water, either you go tree fort next to water or tree fort next to oil. The tree fort next to water would look nicer and oil would be easier to transoport from the oil pond to your base then water would (because of how much you would be using it) so i say you should find a tree fort near water that isnt too far away from the oil pond and you can make a tanker truck to transport large amounts of oil from the pond to your base!
Do a house by the oil, and build a structure sticking out of the rock pile behind it. That would be really cool. And I said that right before I heard it in the video. Oof.
Have you explored the chemical plant since the update? Maybe there are oil pools there now. There were also those odd road features that look like busted silos with broken pipes everywhere and empty holes, so maybe those are filled with oil now. Also, is there not a desert biome behind the first trader? I thought that was a regular feature, but I could be wrong.
14:48 I had i think the same rock formation in my save, you can actually setup a farm above and i think there are just a few path that bots can get to you. Its easy to defend against any raid if you have a spudguns.
Kan, can you use the vaccine pump on a sensor to shoot the oil into a flier automaticity? So you can shoot it into a chest, then the chest would pump oil into the gas tank? Edit* you can do what kan did in his other world and set the craft bot to auto craft
Hey you can't do this. As you need to convert the oil on to gas. So you have to put the oil through the craft bot. No way of auto pumping into a vehicle as far as I can see
go for a oil fort 100% iv done it and it’s amazing but for it to work right you need lots of room in your base so you will need a giant fort which isn’t too bad with 2 people one build and one getting the wood/metal
In my save I have right now I used the hill that Kan is on at 15:07 as a farm. It has cliff faces (bots can't climb) and has farmable ground on top. It's so broken :)
Build a base near the ocean and get your basics going. Once you get a pump and chest, come back and do like in your single player. Just gather and port. Once you have a ton of gas, then take to the air.
you gotta have water, if you don't have water you have to travel to get it t grow. and if you have water, you at least have the little oil spouts. having a big infinite supply of oil's great but it's not necessary to play the game. I'd say find a good water place for a base, and just build a pump and a couple of smart chests and put them at the oil pool and that's taken care of. just one chest is 600 oil, which is a hell of a lot if you're not trying to burn it all up flying around everywhere. it's more oil than i'd use before I got bored of a map, personally. but you gotta have water just to grow food to survive. edit: honestly though while the map-making episode was fun.. (you probably should have continued it once you got onto the new roads this time)... I wouldn't have an issue with you just restarting and hoping for a better outcome.
kAN: i dont think theres trees in the desert at all also kAN: *looks directly at a tree thats in the desert* also youtube compression makes this an amazing video lol
I actually have an idea, since there is no oil near water, make a very very very long pipeline protected by concrete that leads all the way to your base. Same with chemicals.
I think i have a good idea for the treehouse. As far as I know, you can weld trees on something, so you can just cut down threes and weld the down to make a platform the treehouse. Please like it because I think it will be pretty nice.😅😅😁
A single vacuum pump fills a large chest with oil overnight. One chest of oil can supply a fleet of vehicles for a week. Access to oil is important, proximity to oil is unnecessary. Collect a stockpile of oil, go build your dream tree house.
when you went past the first paccking station you see two wood shacks either side of the road, turn right before the first shack theres a chemical island on the right behind the forest
I have a really good first half of the world water very close to the mechanic station, a packing, a warehouse, and a oil pool very close to the mechanic station.
There is nothing around my garage except for water, trees, and a couple of bee hives. I have to drive for miles to find ember, cotton, farmers, or chemicals. Then the new update hits and I find I have an oil pool within walking distance of my garage. It almost evens out.
16:26 did anyone else see that red boi through the trees? That would have ended badly if they went off the jump Edit: left side of the screen by the rock
go for tree fort, many other people survived without infinate oil this far, just haul it in do a tree fort on the coast Edit- make your base on that cliff above the oil pond and put your farm up there, it would besmall, but very protected, then build a base over the whole area so bots can't get you
21:05 "We'd literally need to, like, ship water over from overseas."
I think Kosmo added a few extra steps there.

Kan trust me, you need to afk for a few minutes at the oil pit and you have enough for a few days. No need to have your main base located close enough
You should make your parking lot in the desert and park your vehicles kinda into the fuel pool, so when your not using the car its pumping directly into the car after getting crafted.

Make a secondary base as the tree fort and near that little oil pond put you crops on top of that hill so then your crops won't be destroyed.

I think you should make an oil base and a farm base
