So true . Welding is my primary trade . But ive done a bit of everything on jobs to fill the gaps . Keeps it interesting. Like you i was quick to say . Hey i can do that . And did . I like a challenge and learn new things . Seems i perform good under pressure. Like your vids . Keep it up my friend.
Yes ! I thought I would make a video out of your question because it may help some young people get into the trade. Thanks for the idea if you have any more let me know
I'm on shutdown right now with the pipefitters. We're getting $60 per hour for 8 hours and an extra 2 hours per day at $120 per hour. Great money, lots of experience.
@@nashvilleguy7731 You need to be a part of a UA Local. Sometimes they will take workers on permit if the shutdown is big enough and they need extra workers.
The last shutdown I went to was for Framatome out at a nuclear plant in Arizona. $40/hr, double time after 60hrs, and $150 per diem. Travel in and out was $2500. The money is definitely out there.
Worked shutdowns in refineries all over the US. Great work made a shipload money. Most pay double time after 8 hours. Can make up to 100,000 in 6 months.
Got my #welder and did my FIRST #WELD JUST NOW (and recorded it)!!! Thank you Chris!! Something as a real man I know I've needed to learn. I used 3/32 6013 to repair a trailer. The ONLY instruction I had is from your videos. I learn by diving head first. The welds are uglier than elephant man but hey trailer fixed. Function over form. #vocation #silver #ninjanation
I Like doing shutdown work but hit like someone has hit a light switch and it has slowed down so like you said I've had to find something else to do right now
Managed to get in contact with someone and get a spot in a “class”, for shutdown welders I assume, with a power plant company with plants at multiple locations. At the end of said classes I will take an exam and go from there. Hopefully I pass most importantly and if I do pass hopefully there is ample work.
Love shut downs. On one now. Pipe rig welder in Canada, 24 12’s a shift, quick $30,000 a job. Half the time I’m welding pipe, half the time I’m snoozing in the truck waiting on something. Ha
Omg I’ve been looking for and how to get my foot in the door as a welder and get to traveling making actual money I’m looking up turnaround welding jobs and nothings coming up any tips or something to get me out there
Hi Taylor I’ve worker dump trailer shops and pole barn truss shops and could really use your help pointing me in the right direction as to where to get into my first shut down job I can mig weld well and sure if I picked up a stick welder sure I can pick it back up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated sir thank you.
I would create a list of all the people that do shut down work and call them as many times as it took. Contact people that are actively working shutdowns. I haven't done a shutdown in 15 years. Not sure what's going on but that's where I would start
Hey man, I get out of welding school March 15. Live in Texas, but am in Kentucky right now. I’m looking for some work for 2 months, need to be back in texas by mid may, then I can hit the road again. any advice or contacts you could give me would be appreciated!
I’m out of the loop as far as shut downs and turnarounds. I would find out website that listed shut downs and turn around on call everyone of them. That’s what I used to do
How do I make the transition to pipe? I have at least 16 years of welding experience. No pipe really. All kinds of stuff. I started feeling out Boilermakers union last year. I have my tube cert with them.
Google search everybody that does shut downs. I used to use the hot sheet it was a magazine at truck stops. Call them until somebody answered. be the squeaky wheel

What’s up Chris.. I’m in south Texas if you know anyone here in Texas or anywhere where I can work till I get my drivers license back. Would be great. I commented on one of your other videos and you recommend me to look into shutdowns jobs. I already applied at one place on indeed. If you know anyone that needs a hard worker and fast learner let me know.

Got it. "SHUTDOWN" refers to a plant shutdown for emergency or maintenance, requiring critical plant start time...that leads to lots of OT .
