Few tips from a experienced Shimla driver - -Avoid driving in snow bcoz of some other person's mistake u can end up in a coffin. Specially DL, HR & PB No. Vehicles who have no experience of driving in snow. -Reduce tyre pressure it will help you to have more grip. - Do not drive your vehicle beyond 2nd gear. If you will drive aggressively then you have to hit brakes & brakes in snow means skidding off the road. - If there is fresh snow then your vehicle will need more acceleration as tyres will get stuck in soft snow. -If it is frost which is formed when snow melts during day time & in early morning hours that water freezes to make it ice or frost that is most slippery. On ice if you will accelerate hard, brake hard or take a sharp turn your vehicle can skid. So, be gentle with brakes, accelerater & steering in ice. -Snow melts on a cloudy day/ night very fast. So, on a cloudy day there is minimal chance of ice/ frost & best grip on road on a cloudy day. - Good winter tyres with deep grooves are must to drive in snow. - If your vehicle gets hit in snow insurance companies do not give any claims. As they say it's a God's act & we don't give any compensation for it. Thanks
I drove many a times in snow in Himachal...few years back my Xylo got fully rotated on road by slipping on ice formation though it looked as a muddy road😊
I lived in Canada for 5 years and there you have to encounter snow every winter whether you like it or not. I used to drive a front wheel drive car there but you have to switch to winter tires in the winter. I have driven in complete snowfall conditions, you can't even see the road or the lanes, but I used to reduce my speed, follow other vehicles in front or their tracks and avoided any unnecessary overtaking. Only difference was it was all flat area in the Toronto, Ontario area unlike Himachal which is hilly.
very useful gagan bhai, i also feel same when drive in snow near gulaba, break marne par/acclerate karne par car ka behaviour change ho jata he, very useful for new driver
Driven to hatu peak twice in snow. The tyres are the most important aspect of the snow drive. But I must say I’m impressed with the Alturas. Very valid points discussed 👍

Hatu peak, a beautiful place to visit in month of June is in narkanda roughly 70km from shimla. Jau Bagh is also good treking place. Actually I like more of narkanda than the city rush of shimla. Narkanda is much better place to visit when compared with shimla kufri and chail as it's more near to nature with less population density. I had been to this place almost eight to ten times for which I had driven front wheel drive cars , the diesel ones. Traction loss occurs but one can easily recover. Once we the group of four friends were moving up on fresh snowy patch and the car skid to extreme right of road but we managed to stop the car safely. Then we deflate the car tyres to almost 18psi from the recommended 30psi of indigo ecs. After that we never had traction loss uphill or moving downhill. I had used many times this method of deflating car tyres (I always keep my car inflator pump which operates on battery and inflate the tyre back to normal as soon as the road is clear of snow) on my way to keylong, kaza or leh.
In case of front wheel drive cars like i10 ... You can also lower the tire pressure manually, so that more surface area to be available for tires.... Also if u want to go uphill you can use half clutch release phenomenon to gain traction.. (In case of a sudden stop at a steep hill) it's good to use gear manual gears rather than automatic gears, because humans are way better driver than a automatic function...
