Why was the exchange a "bad" exchange. Alistair challenged the two women to ask probing questions of their guests. The reason so much of Britain was duped into Brexit was because the media did NOT ask guests the probing questions.
The female guest was allowed to talk for a long time without interuption, but as soon as Alastair spoke she interupted aggressively. He was right to reprimand Victoria as she never told the woman to shut up and let him speak.
Not wrong about Victoria I have noticed she rarely pins controversial people or out right liars or idiots to the wall and yet when someone uses logic and facts she just let's them get interrupted.
Alastair Campbell you did well. She is a lunatic. Alastair, you are right to attempt to hold Brexiteers to account. More people in positions of influence and or power should speak to truth to power. The audience must be under no illusions when they are being lied to.
I agree that Phillips is certainly not a reasonable person. It's just a pity that Alastair didn't know who she was in advance. I believe he could have easily tied her in knots with a more controlled response...and reckon that this would have allowed Victoria D to drill down deeper in her dialogue with Phillips.
So the lunatic in this scenario is the person defending a democratic vote NOT the person who composed a tissue of lies that led to the bombing and deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqis and laid waste a country that has not recovered to this day? What a mighty peculiar moral compass you have.
I think you should have quoted Emily Maitlis from her News Agents podcast. She admitted that on Newsnight, presenters and producers showed contrasting Brexit views rather than one side vs. correct analysis. I.e. Pro and Anti Brexit generalists, rather than Brexiteers debating experts on customs documentation, trade agreements etc.
Its big of Alastair to apologise to Derbyshire for his tone, though he wasn't wrong. The Brexit clown had a real hint of Nadine Dories about her and nobody can ever have any sort of reasonable argument with that type. They are far too used to people nodding along to them in the media, while a river of diarrhoea spews forth from their mouths. Good for you Alastair.
I'm firmly on Alastair's side of the argument here...but I'm not sure that being too confrontational and hostile to someone who's very confrontational and hostile always achieves the desired effect. The simple truth will ensnare Phillips sooner or later.

Needless to say, Alistair Campbell isn't a gentleman....
Why didn't you ask him about Dr Kelly..!
How will he put a spin on this? Never doubt the spin doctor and never mention his spin on WMD's or he just loses it.
Yaaaaawn. Campbell is 100 more clever than any Tory in parliament today.
@@billpugh58 yawn indeed. War crimes are so passé.
@@billpugh58 That will explain the WMD story. Real genius
@@billpugh58 he’s more intelligent than any brexiturd
Alastair was bang out of order on that show and looked like an obnoxious bullying bigot. Trying to gloss over it shows a complete lack of self awareness and a large dose of cognitive dissonance
He lost the plot forgot his meds most probably
War Criminal
Goebbels Campbell & Sir War Criminal Bliar.....
He is a war criminal and bully.
WMD’s , Dr David Kelly , 1 million dead in an illegal war. And you have the cheek to criticise others
The majority of the country voted for Brexit, get over it and stop acting like babies
Whatever you do, don't mention the "Dodgy Dossier". I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it....Alastair Campbell calling someone else out for talking bilge..you couldn't make it up!
Unfortunately, your temper made her look better. You could have ridiculed her and made her look silly, but unfortunately the tempo of your arguing messed any decent message up. Things do need to be said on TV but you need to say them in calm manner.
You were spot on Alistair. Keep the passion and tell it how it is.
