    Side note. When I was a kid I cleaned the edges and frame of a mirror with Brasso, brass cleaner. It foxed all around the frame and it stayed like that forever. I still don't know why I used Brasso. The frame was goldish and I was 8. Lol

    • @Thicketworks

    I'm wondering what it is you have your stamp attached to? I'm trying this and having zero luck stamping on the glass. You make it look easy! Mine is a smudge fest. Thanks!

    • @Thicketworks
      @Thicketworks  4 года назад

      Hi Anne! For the stamps, I typically attach them to the thin acetate that is included in their packaging. This allows me to very carefully place the designs and to gently press down, minimizing smearing...but, smearing is ALWAYS an issue when attempting to stamp onto a slick surface like glass. It took a lot of practice for me to learn how to get it right - and it's still always nerve-wracking! Don't give up, girl! 😍

    How can you make it more of a mirror effect. It look live sliver more than a mirror?

  • @creativegirl9710
    @creativegirl9710 3 года назад

    Wow! Such cool effects and so creative. Have you tried both brands of mirror spray paints; Krylon and I think Rustoelum? Also it looks like you did flat black spray paint, any difference with glossy black spray paint? I love that large stencil you used, thanks for putting a link to it. Also have you tried this method on a sheet of plastic? I need to make a faux mirror so no glass or mirror will be used. The plastic will be cut into a very custom shape.

    • @Thicketworks
      @Thicketworks  3 года назад +1

      It's been awhile, my friend, but I have used both brands. Both seem pretty comparable to me. Have not experimented with glossy black - but I wouldn't hesitate to try it. As for plastic? No - have not attempted this method with plastic...but if the surface was smooth enough, and impervious to the solvents in the pain, it could work. Thank you for your kind words. Good luck with your project!

    • @Thicketworks

    I have a mirror I would like to "antique" and stencil. How would I do that? Is there a way to remove the mirror finish so that I can stencil and layer from the back the way you did? Or would it be an entirely different technique? I want to create the mercury glass effect on the mirror, but want to use a French style stencil with it. Thanks!

    • @Thicketworks
      @Thicketworks  3 года назад +1

      To achieve this look with an existing mirror, it's necessary to dissolve the mirror backing with harsh chemicals. There are tutorials detailing how this is done - but I chose to start with clear glass in order to achieve the foxing effect without having to wear a hazmat suit! Good luck with your project: it sounds lovely.

    • @dr.lisastinson8967
      @dr.lisastinson8967 3 года назад

      Thank you. I am absolutely in love with the second stenciled mirror. I just love how delicate it is and the antiquing is fantastic! I think I went through eight of your videos yesterday back-to-back because I could not stop watching! Love!

  • @Meanne77
    @Meanne77 5 лет назад

    gorgeous! Too bad it wouldn't work on a real mirror! (I know you can antique real mirrors too - without the addition of an image - but it requires chemical products I'm too afraid to use!)
    We're just starting to get Rust-o-leum products here in France (although not the mirror effect one) so maybe one day... (I really don't feel like trying to import an aerosol aaaall the way from the USA!)

    • @Thicketworks
      @Thicketworks  5 лет назад

      Using harsh chemicals to dissolve mirror coatings is just not something I want to do - so, I'm thrilled to be able to achieve this effect with simple spray paints, @Meanne77. Any metallic silver paint will work - it doesn't have to be Rust-o-leum. xoxo
