My mother was a knitter, that was her "thing" (like our pedals and amps). I grew up watching and learning about all things knitting. When she passed away we had to find homes for literally 100's of skeins of yarn. She collected yarn like we collect guitar stuff. I say all of this because when I received my Effected Wool Beanie my wife looked at the Beanie and said "Your Mom would like that", this is the ultimate compliment for anything Knitted. The past couple of mornings have been below freezing (32F) here and I've donned the Effected Wool Bobcap Beanie. I love the Wool Effected Bobcap Beanie and in addition to keeping me warm it brings back warm and fond memories too. ❤️
Finally got my pedalboard done or so I think. Can’t thank you guys enough for all the pedal content over the years. Have something that works. Video is up!! I truly appreciate you guys!
The best way to move one some at a time from one list to the other is to listen to it every day. A song which may deserve the top top is the one which enters your mid when you're thinking of nothing in particular, but, it accentuates your mood.
D&M, Thank you for answering my question today regarding placement of my new Harmonious Monk in my W/D setup. I must say this pedal is absolutely incredible and I find the inclusion of the Mix nob is just brilliant on a trem pedal. Great job by you guys and JAM Pedals!.....I also want to thank both of you for the inspiration and education over the past 6 or so years to allow me to correctly build a fantastic sounding wet/dry rig. You guys ARE legends!!
@Dan: Thanks for the reminder on the waza head phones. Currently running a supro 1600 and a boss ir 200. I have a revv d20 on the way, and if I like it, my only hesitation on ditching the ir200 is the inability to prepare while the girls are asleep without putting hours on the tubes. Also thanks to whoever asked the question!
In the first few years of piano lessons I was encouraged to spent a minimum of 15 minutes doing Hannon finger exercises. Immediately following I was too tired and bored to practice the week's piece but I couldn't resume until after returning from junior high school. So, I was either warmed up with nothing to play or excited to internalize the new piece with cold fingers. I ended up learning to turn exercises into original music while doing half as many exercises. Today I try to combine physical technique with original compositions and let one improve the other.
Mick, you're right, PRS SEs switched between Cort and WMI sometime in the last couple years, I just don't know which was first. I *think* they're WMI now.
I was hoping for a guitar before I started piano lessons. I kept up the piano lesson but bought myself a guitar. I was not comfortable with either the location or the schedule of access to the piano. The guitar was with me in my room and accessibility was key. When I left, I left the piano behind. I translated what I had learned or created on either guitar or piano to the other instrument and learned only the most interesting parts of some late 60's songs before searching record stores for a more eclectic development. I have an electronic keyboard to hand but never seem interested enough to put time in on it. I now have no more space to add guitars or amps to my music room and am reduced to upgrading as the "amazing deal" is revealed. Music is still alive at 70 and (not) counting.
LOVED your response and Mr. Lerch's addition regarding GAS. I've arrived at a Strat-like guitar and a Vox-style amp and it's the exact sound in my head! Not the same rig as any of my heroes (which tells me it might actually be "me") and when I consider adding a new amp or guitar, I realize that would be a step *away* from this sound I've chased for so long. Fingers crossed I can remain content and just focus on my playing from here!
I’m a big fan of those “I just bought a bunch of really expensive new pedals, please tell me what to do with them” questions. They belie the oft repeated adage: “There’s no such thing as a stupid question.”
Re. the Fane Crescendo, Hi-Tone in the US offers their take on it. I think it’s made for them to their specs by Eminence. Re. hearing, my left ear is the gimpy one. The frequencies a tweed Fender Deluxe excels at amplifying are just the ones my ear would rather not deal with. So when I get the urge to crank up that amp, in goes the earplug.
Lads -- just a note to share that I really enjoy the NPD/Pedal Jams videos. I've enjoyed all the stuff you've done over the past couple of years, but have missed seeing new stuff. You guys got me hooked on pedals (I think I'm officially now a collector), so seeing new stuff is great. Keep up all the great work. Really enjoy your videos, and they've set me on a wonderful new, and inspiring, course!
I missed the live stream... but catching it now..Leg Ends! I had to add in regards to the real Spring reverbs in the tank of an amp .. nothing like kicking your amp with reverb and listening to it go KABLOOEY!!! Caught a buddy of mine sitting with a friend to his band called par avion that does Surf Rock versions of all kinds of tunes including modern ones… it was really fun hanging out at Tiki Tom's in Walnut Creek California with Flaming Margaritas and birthday cakes, hot wings literally on fire,… fun night! Best part of course was the guitarist throigh a small Princeton Reverb that just sounded freaking amazing! 😎🎸🤘🌊🏄♂️🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Cfr spring reverbs. Regardless of your not getting the toneprint as you intended, I do very much like your Spring FlowWowers toneprint. Actually, it is my always on reverb on my Plethora 5x. My thanks for that!
Regarding Source Audio Collider phase at 15:00 or so: I have SA Ventris and if I leave App cable (as I used to do) in second input there seems to be issues that resemble phase problems. I know not the same piece of gear and probably not the issue here, but still worth checking .... Cheers from Finland!
Mick mentioning (not for the first time i think) that there are some Lollars earmarked for the 335, that’s going to be a good vlog when it happens. I keep looking at my 335 and thinking about it, and then chickening out ;-). Currently in the process of changing the LP to 50’s wiring (new pots, caps, switch and the works) and then giving that a bit of time before deciding if i want to go down the pickup rabbit hole on that guitar - but at least it’s easy as compared with an ES type
I am not surprised that Dan like the Wind through the Trees. I figured that PRS would have done something worthwhile. Dan appeared to be struggling to hold it together after playing it.
You mentioned earlier in the show, you were going to put your amp on the scope to check the phase. Do you put the scope leads across the speaker terminals or hook to the Preamp out of your effects loop if you're worried about giving too much current to your scope?
The problem with quadraphonic systems is they introduce the fourth wall of sound within which the listener(s) must be sat and thereby reducing the audience size.
Legends. Oh, sorry... Leg-ends. I'll get to watch a "Live VCQ" at some point??? Always entertaining... inspiring to-boot! Mick, was thinking after your comments; you'll get your wish of being in Alaska, when you come back as a Polar Bear!
@D&M: Can you please share some wisdom about managing guitar straps and buttons? Have you ever considered strap locks so you can just use a single strap or two for all guitars?
I'm so disappointed. For some reason I thought the VCQ started later and totally missed it. Maybe next week I'll make it on time. Anyway, thanks guys for all you do to help the music community !
Hey Mick, be very careful from here on. I've had a problem with high volume since I stopped gigging as a bassist 20+ years ago. I now have constant low-level hiss in both ears and gigs sound like mush if I don't use ear defenders. Conversation in busy pubs is similarly difficult. It sucks.
Just something to consider re latency. 1mS of latency = 1 foot from speaker: as a result when wearing headphones with most modellers (Helix at 1.5mS for example) you hear the sound earlier than you would have done via a normal amp/speaker. Whatever “attack disconect” is perceived might be due to something else. I find that miced up real amps in the studio can also feel slightly disconnected. Again it could be the amazing power of our minds to fool us
Watching back as a second screen with Wales/Cook Islands. Re daily songs, I have two playlists on a flac player for daily commuting alleviation. One starts with “Manic Monday” (“Mornings Suck”, the other with “Raspberry Beret” (“Commuter Blue”). Either are dependable. Never again feels harsh; dunking on 1D feels very elderly rock snob, but the combination of clipping for the ‘12 Olympics tv intercuts and “whaddya mean it’s a Baba O’Rioey rip off?” Chat made “Best Song Ever” rather stale. Actually stuff it, “ice ice baby” would be worth inventing time travel for so that it could be erased from history. Re: Rosie’s dip: may I suggest your next collab pedal be a reworking of the Korg MIku engine so it barks, with an added distortion pot called the “excrement roll”?
Hey gents, I really get Dan's point of playing Mr Brightside played on an uncompensated Tele... Been there, done that. However. Please please please, if you can and dare, include the gamechaner audio light pedal. Just for fun and scientific purposes of course. Cheers and take care
Am I a jerk for disliking the way a PRS headstock looks on a strat body? Convex vs concave curves, designed for the pointy McCarty vs designed for a curvy strat… it must be a statement: this is a PRS guitar. Okay, but it's a strat?!
Has nobody brought up The Who Quadrophenia? That's where MY mind goes when I hear quadrophonic anything. And they had a terrible time with it. Not enough people are set up to play 4 way music the way it was dreamed to be. And like playing stereo on mono equipment can sound terrible if the engineer isn't aware while mixing, quad has double the trouble (as WAS mentioned).
With regard to the very last question of the day, I wish we could stop discussing everything with reference to value. Like- want to do work on a guitar? Do work on it. We seem to buy everything with the goal of reselling it.
Commit to listening to the quality of both content and execution of the expression of you, every time you pick up your instrument. The rest will follow. Pun Intended.
They definitely mentioned you. There was a brief discussion about whether your name was pronounced more like satin or Satan. Did they not answer your question after that?
Well, we said we didn’t know. And it’s one of those potentially urban myths. So we’re not lying! Never heard him play that in tune anyway. (Ducks, runs for cover)

Ah man, thanks so much Rob. What a lovely story. Much love man!

there's a story about james brown interviewing a guitar player. 'can you play an E9?' 'yeah.' 'how long?'

I love when Mick drops an Australian or American accent!

Kablooey works for us. Hahahaha!
I remember supporting Aziz, and his amazing tabla player in Chester. He played a Godin synth access guitar all night. Very interesting.

I went to a Golden Earring gig in 1973, they had a quadraphonic set up, it was superb.
I love the phase demonstration😂🔥🤘btw I love my ABY-Baby with my Gjikas.

I love the idea of a comparison of EVM12L and Fane Crescendo speakers.

Thanks for the fun 🤓
I’ve been looking at that ATB Gibson 225. Who. Played one locally and my goodness. The ATB is in much better condition.
Check out Rawson Sparfield for the Cresendo clones.
Could you please tell me what guitar rack stands you guys use? I’ve been looking and can’t find to any I like but those look nice. Thanks!
I found that stand it a gravity stand plan on getting one soon from a local supplier around 80 dollar for a 5 spot.
@D&M: Can you please share some wisdom about managing guitar straps and buttons? Have you ever considered strap locks so you can just use a single strap or two for all guitars?
Hmm, I think I prefer a different strap per guitar for gigs. I’m not changing that much so it works just having individual straps. Dan here 👍
Missed this one all together, rough being an adult sometimes, exercise and Dr appointment have kept me away
Aye, and don't forget "it sucks getting old" lol Seriously though, Dr appointments fill my life and I'm quite sick of it too, so I feel ya brother!
Anyone else notice that strymon blue sky V2 has a very different algorithm and reaction compared to V1?
I'm so disappointed. For some reason I thought the VCQ started later and totally missed it. Maybe next week I'll make it on time. Anyway, thanks guys for all you do to help the music community !

If you don’t want the Silver Sky SE Mick I’ll give it a good home 😂 what a gift! Cheers chaps 👍
I do want it! I like it!
Wouldn't the consideration of impact resulting from a second set of of any pair result in 2 to the 4th power to cover all the possible cross pairings?

Love these dudes
Come to Pdx sometime 🤘
I like Jazzmaster!
Number of speakers X wattage of speaker with lowest rating.
Rms versus peak rating makes a difference.
Am I a jerk for disliking the way a PRS headstock looks on a strat body? Convex vs concave curves, designed for the pointy McCarty vs designed for a curvy strat… it must be a statement: this is a PRS guitar. Okay, but it's a strat?!
Has this PRS video yet to be shown or have I missed it somewhere?
This coming Friday….
I’d love to know where Dan got his hat. I think we’re in a similar follicular situation. 😂
Never again: Jump
Daily: You Shook Me All Night Long
DAN & MICK, Swap sides so Micks right ear can take some of the SPL instead of the left haha
Hello! 1:19
What a day - thanks so much :D

Why is there gonna be an inevitable demise of N.Y.C Mick ?
I think that may have been misconstrued. I meant my inevitable demise! Go to NYC again before I die, is what I meant!
Lol...ummm that's 'cigarettes' for the Americans.
Still needs to be said even nowadays, eh?
Y o u f o r g o t me :((
They definitely mentioned you. There was a brief discussion about whether your name was pronounced more like satin or Satan. Did they not answer your question after that?
This show has gone downhill since the Fez days :)
Hahahaha!
Jimmy Page DID NOT play on, "You Really Got Me." Confirmed by Page and the track's Producer. STOP LYING!!
Well, we said we didn’t know. And it’s one of those potentially urban myths. So we’re not lying! Never heard him play that in tune anyway.
(Ducks, runs for cover)
🤣🤣🤣
01:02:55 should have kept watching 🫡
Stop yelling.
