54:17 Conner was very nervous because he really wanted to Win this because he sacrificed so much just to go to LA (having to leave a TrashTaste episode early just to make his flight)
Connor is like the really cool silver haired dude that joins the tournament and destroys the main cast in the first arc so that they have a reason to get stronger and make a comeback in the second arc.
@@likestosleep225 honestly I somewhat agree. The "main" channel put out much less content this year, only 13 videos compared to 2022's 21 videos, and *5* of this years 13 videos were crane game videos, two of which were back to back. Considering the lower output and less variety when compared to previous years, it kinda feels like Connor's planning to slowly retire that channel and make this one the main one.
The constant panic in the chess commentator's voices is so funny to me. Just "Ah, yes, this would be the best move, surely, they'll go for it-NO WHY?! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"
When TeamFourStar did a Nuzlocke for Sun/Moon release: that was the gimmick for their character, Larenti. Since their DS was in Japan Time. And since the game starts with the Mom waking them at 3 AM right after they moved to Alola; the entire thing is that Larenti is miserable, and jet lagged and just wants to get some goddamn sleep but is roped into a cosmic adventure with Island Gods
Fun fact: there's a name for this rare trope: "The Refusal of the Call." My favorite example comes from Fairy Fencer F where the protag is given any wish that must be granted and he literally just wishes for a lifetime of bread and wants to STAY in prison because it has everything he needs.
i love the sheer excitement in the commentators’ voices. the editing makes it look like every time they move a piece everyone loses their minds and i’m here for it
Can I just say, Connor winning that clutch game with a stupid gimmicky tactice is THE MOST chess way for this whole arc to end. Chess games are 90% tactics and positions and 10% blunders and the worst tactics youve ever seen that still somehow work. Beautiful.

There is a phenomenon where skilled chess players can lose against new players because they are used to seeing high skill plays and are prepared to counter them, but are completely flabbergasted by the nonsensical moves of a newer player and their preparation is turned against them. Magnus Carlson often does inoptimal moves specifically to force opponents out of their practiced moves and make them actually play the game as a matter of skill, where he tends to excel and his opponents tend to be out of their comfort zone. Anyways that’s why I think Connor had a harder time than expected on the first matchup.
I used to do this to my ex boyfriend haha he was a great chess player and would just list of the names, told him I’d practiced a lot but I understood none of it I’d just play nonsensical moves and he’d get rlly hyped when some of them were good plays hahaha
