There was a good sense of tension build-up with GG that didn't come with Ripto or the Sorceress. There was more dialogue and a more substantial plot in the sequels. The first one was just "oh f you gnorc, I'm coming for you and I'm gonna make you pay'

An interesting insight, what you say may be related to his name, but, as far as I know, the name Gnasty is a pun on "nasty" and Gnorc is the combination of gnome and orc.
When I first battled Gnasty I was like why is this so easy, but now that I think of it I remembered that all of the dragons in Gnasty's world are dragons you've already freed once and just got frozen again. They probably went to fight Gnasty and they probably weakened him quite a bit leaving the last 2 hit points for spyro
Sadly it's pretty much just because the developers were crunched for time. The fight was intended to be a lot harder and mechanically challenging, but they had to scrap most of it because of deadlines.
Was so upset as a kid because I couldn't reach the Gnasty Gnorc battle. When I finally did when I got a bit older I remember feeling so let down by how easy it was. You basically chase a couple thieves and then chase Gnasty for a bit until he stops and you flame him once. It was pathetic.
Lol I know. For whatever reason though i was the first out of my brothers to beat the game. I remember hearing my biggest brother yelling at the TV during this fight. Not sure why he thought it was so hard
The people saying that the boss battles don't count as boss battles because they are easy, well in a way it makes sense to have them all be so easy because the main age group of Spyro one is meant for little kids and little kids don't like to have things too difficult because they get overwhelmed and upset. I've never minded the boss battles.
It also makes sense from a story perspective as a tragic end for a villain who really wasn't. Gnasty Gnorc only crystallized the dragons because they publicly humiliated him on live TV completely unwarranted. It only fits that he would end up completely brutalized by a dragon as revenge for a feud he didn't even start.
This fits a boss level for sure. I just wish that gnasty gnorc himself wasn't such a joke of a boss. The most challenging boss in the game was dr. Shemp. Gnasty was like just as easy as blowhard or Jacques. The gliding from platform to platform over lava was the most challenging part.
I don’t know why so many people are complaining about how easy this boss is/was. I am an OG player, played this game when I was 7 21 years ago. This boss isn’t meant to be all meaty and hard. This boss fight was always meant to be a puzzle. Sure, it was simple, but it was also frustrating in the sense that, if you died, you had to start ALL OVER. THAT is what made this boss fight challenging. This boss fight is also super iconic in the video game industry, so there’s also that.
