I've had neighbors say they have seen wolves and I swear we heard one one night. We have also been told mountain lions don't exist in NH, but people have seen them as well. Anything is possible. Never say never.
I wonder if they used to keep to larger numbers in their packs, instead of dispersing the way that they do? It almost seems like a response to their being hunted in every corner of the land; smaller numbers and quicker turnaround, with dispersal, increases the species' chance for survival. They're so adaptable.
Great info! We have some coyotes in my area and I saw one roadkill up the road from my house. Not a great area for them. I'll make sure to pick fallen fruits out of my yard. I didn't know they were attracted by fruits.
Just put the fallen fruit in the woods, so they can feed without killing and without being on your property. If you have no pets, it’s not a big deal that they are eating your fruit. It’s the idea of keeping them from humans and our pets.
@@AccurateLedgers Very true. People think their cute until they eat grandmas lap Rat. Best to have two big Dogs in the yard that don't like them that will keep a eye on grandmas lap Rat, little girls Cats and small kids.
I found this very helpful as a hunter and trapper. I have always thought of coyotes as a great indicator of what is in the area. You were absolutely right about the scat. I’m always thrilled to find bear or coyote scat Edit: I am thrilled to find bear and coyote scat, because it is a great indicator of what is out there in the woods. Omnivores are very hard on an ecosystem, but they are a very good indicator of biodiversity like you said. One great thing to deter coyotes is bear spray also
I have a small livestock farm in Upstate NY. I have seen coyotes on my property - in September, October and November of this year. The eastern coyotes I have seen look much heavier than 40 lbs (more like the size of a medium sized siberian husky with a long / thick wolf like bushy tail). They are considerably larger and thicker than the coyotes you refer to in your video. They are obviously larger than the western coyotes I have seen with my on eyes in New Mexico. Let me say that again - they are definitely heavier than 40 lbs.
62lbs is the heaviest eastern coyote on record. people very often think what they see weighs more than it does. average weight is 30-40 lbs. big ones are around 50. they don't really get much bigger than that.
There’s hunting contests for every animal, it’s not just coyote specific. Coyotes also certainly do prey on deer, you can’t say in one breath they don’t and in the next “ well they do eat fawns” and “coyotes are good in an area so the deer don’t over brows the under growth in the forest.”
They do hunt deer but not nearly as well as wolves do, because even the larger Eastern Coyote is a lot smaller than a wolf and they live in smaller family groups. Also if you group legal hunting, illegal poaching, and motor vehicle collisions, humans kill more deer than all other predators combined, so if you're at all worried about deer populations you have to look at us first.
In Southern Illinois we have Canid animals (call them what you want), that are much larger in appearance than western Coyotes. Having longer fur, and come up to taillights of a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire (caught it on CCTV). I along with St. Louis city police officers have witnessed these Canid hunting/stalking on line (not online) in a pack after Whitetail the way African lions hunt in a pride. (I am unaware of this collaborative teamwork to be the behavior of pure Coyotes). If Coywolf is an imprecise term to describe these animals, perhaps Coyoteoid is better? Something that appears to be Coyote like, but isn't.
Eastern Coyote is also called Red Wolf. Here (Shenandoah Valley area) they go a lot larger than 20 pounds and are usually 40 - 60 pounds. LoL that they don't kill.deer. Yeah they do. I have seen it.
Combination of being mad and irrational after losing a cat, dog or farm animals or just simply having fun killing them! It’s become an industry now because they are allowed to continue and basically use their numbers and peoples lack of coexisting as an excuse. They really just care about killing and selling fur and if they were to magically not go near people ever again, they would still look for an excuse.
Killing live stock and young fawns many. I understand where those people are coming from. If your salary and assets were reduced because an animal killed them, you’d act that way too.
@@nonyobussiness3440 That does not justify the senseless persecution of these animals. Killing them on your property when they are a threat to livestock - absolutely (in compliance with the law). But hunting them for sport is simply intolerable...
80+ coyote hybrids here in New Brunswick, Canada. They move in and out with the deer we have found after a brief hiatus are back in numbers along with the deer. Healthy population. We try keep a close eye on them here on the farm and I spotted one in the field a few days back pushing 120lbs. Massive. Our male Aussies are 60-70 lbs and this thing had to be twice the size in height and in length with huge paws and a very healthy looking coat. In the close encounter I had with one a few years ago the hybrid was german shepherd sized, this one dwarfed it. Made the one shot in Caraquet, New Brunswick(Google) look small.
Coyotes do lure Dogs into traps because we have witness it and every pair do have cubs that makes their numbers get out of control until some form of sickness hits that Dogs will also catch and you don't want that. We no longer have Wolves here that keep their numbers under control so we must have Coyote hunts from time to time to keep them healthy. I live in a town that have free range Dogs that keeps the Coyote problem away. Funny thing is we have nobody getting dog bit because all the Dogs and people know each other unlike towns that do have leash laws that have crazy Dogs that get loose that don't know any better since they are tied up and half nuts because of it. As far as Rodents go free range Dogs and Cats take care of that problem to.
Im glad the more people try to irradicate them the farther they go and more they evolve. People need to mind their own and just relax. Before we know it they're gana start crossbreeding with werewolves and get even bigger and seriously scarier. Im sure if coyotes wanted to be a problem they could be
Haha why don't people treat buger eater the same way for devastating them double whoopers. Coys and wolves are trying to survive unlike these hunter its their job and us every part of their kill
Because conservation isn’t just a Kumbaya. Predator populations need to be managed just like prey populations. If you think I’m wrong, call the DNR and ask them.
I love coyotes ♥️ they are so beautiful, it’s crazy to me that some people think they are ugly
I saw 2 coyotes a few years ago at midnight running through a shopping center. It was really neat how they moved. It's not like watching a dog.
They move in straight lines, light on their feet, very efficiently. Way different than a dog.
If they are running around in shopping centers it's time to bring the numbers down.
@@neganrex5693 I don't think you learned anything from this video.

It has more to do with carving out a niche that is different from wolves. Coyotes thrive on smaller prey animals that can't support full pack hunting.

When did Maine stop the open season and bounty system on coyotes?

Do we know where exactly Coyotes originated from originally out west, was it the deserts in Utah and Arizona adapted from the Mexican wolf possibly?
Freakish hybrids and coy wolf is more exciting and scary than actual reality.
cool

It is thought that Eastern Coyotes are descendants of Pleistocene Coyotes which were much larger than Holocene(present) Coyote.
Do they travel on railroad tracks?
Yes and everywhere else they can find road kill.
They tend to take the path of least resistance when possible

I also found her an armchair expert. I got a kick out of her saying they don't lure Dogs into traps and not every pair have cubs.
Yeah, those coyotes there in the Carolina's have Red Wolf DNA in them, they've tested them and found that out.
Where are the wolves ?🤔😦🐺

It's fun. They're also destroying the local deer herd. 40 to 50 percent of fawn fatalities come from yotes.
I put a trail cam on a coyote one spring and in a matter of 2 weeks they killed 12 fawns…they are devastating on the deer heard

Seems like multiple coyotes bullied the single cat away from its kill?
No Coyotes DO take down Deer, although its a helluva lot easier for the Hybrids
