I am in love with this woman's voice. So pure, clean. No screeching like some of today's female vocalists. Karen Carpenter, Maureen McGovern, Dusty Springfield...reminiscent of them but yet all her own.
She hit every note spot on! She didn't slide into any note. Her voice is crystalline. Everybody says she sounds like Karen Carpenter. Karen was an alto. Rumer is a soprano.
This soft and silky voice accompany with me for years, no matter when I am working, traveling or in a bad mood, this voice always melt my heart. More songs I hear, more astonishing feeling I have. Rumer she sings from heart, and soul.
WOW!!! I absolutely love Rumer - she is one classy lady. Was fortunate enough to see her sing live at the CD launch in Rough Trade East - she was amazing! In my opinion, on this track she eclipses both Dionne and our Cilla. I hope she goes on to record all the classic love songs. I will buy any album she makes.
Lyrics: What's it all about, Alfie? Is it just for the moment we live? What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie? Are we meant to take more than we give Or are we meant to be kind? And if only fools are kind, Alfie, Then i guess it's wise to be cruel. And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie, What will you lend on an old golden rule? As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie, I know there's something much more, Something even non-believers can believe in. I believe in love, Alfie. Without true love we just exist, Alfie. Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie. When you walk let your heart lead the way And you'll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie
She's new to me...and I must say her voice and singing style are fabulous. I don't think I've heard a better version of this song, and I've listened to a good few cos I try to sing it myself and I'm a tenor!( Octave down of course)
responding to Chucks mention of Dusty Springfield and Sandy Shaw, reminds me of how much I really did miss the mix of pop and rock from the 60's. I'm in the US but I visited England and watched both of those ladies on shows like Top of the Pops back then. I miss the genre mixing of radio from back then as well. And I had a craving to hear this song today.
Brought me to tears. Amazing. She understands these amazing sounds she sings, unlike most of todays singers who just yell and scream the exact same ridiculous acrobatic riffs.
Oh WOW its so refreshing to hear propper talent, this Gorgeous woman Rumer makes it all worth it. so fed up with young talentless girls who cant sing for **** I love you.....Rumer
This girl has such a quality voice, yes Karen Carpenter et al but at the end of the day she is Rumer one of our very best songtresses.. Wonderful cannot praise enough these are great songs and need great singers to do them justice.....
Alfie, als je deze uitvoering hoort dan mag je alle vorige uitvoeringen vergeten. Origineel gezongen door Dionne Warwick vind ik dit de beste uitvoering van Bacharach's schrijverstalent. We want more of this kind. Pure klasse.
ya know what? I'm gonna say this is one of the best versions of Alfie! Intimate and not-too-slow...and not too shrill, like most of the other versions. I understand why Bacharach is a fan of Rumer! She gets the message and tone of this song!
i think she's on this bacharach swing... and i can't stop feeling her presence in the words. Someone will write her a hit ,and i think it'll be Daryl H.
Stunning! Not only a great rendition of the classic theme, but a wonderfully conceived 'homage' to the original Cilla version filmed in the studio with the mighty Burt and the orchestra all those years ago. Right down to shots of the desk and the pianist/conductor arm gesture to rap it all up! Really nicely done! Beautiful restrained, focused playing from all and that voice! My God.....so gorgeous.
Brilliant!!! I think she looks like CARA O'SULLIVAN....The Cork born Soprano!!! Would love to see her in Ireland and thanks also the Burt for a great song.
This is singing of the very highest order and make no mistake it's unique to Rumer so please, even though I know the comparisons are meant to be complimentary, let's try and just enjoy this unbelievably talented songstress (who also writes her own stuff unlike those who's names are often mentioned when discussing Rumer) for herself. Yes?
Glad I found and discovered your music here on You Tube, you're the kind of singer that I will never get tired of listening to your beautiful voice and songs like this with such classiness.Thank You for sharing :)
Check here if you found this because of the TV show "Sunday Morning". She's got some Dusty Springfield in her... but her voice is made for the Bacharach classics! Brava.
Incredible, delightful, gorgeous, warm, sensous, plantive - superb voice and perfect interpretation. It is SO hard to sing Burt Bacharach songs this well. WONDERFUL!!! Thank you. (But yes, Atlantic Records, PLEASE PAY your musicians promptly - musicians are NOT rich people!!)
I would love to hear her in a duet with Elvis Costello on other Bacharach compositions. She could easily sing the entire book of Burt, and many others. Breathlessly waiting for more!
Sarah...I agree with you soo much!! we I heard RUMER the first time I couldnt believe it. I thought there was a hope for modern music. I think people are really fed up with the Christina Agileras sound alikes, not even to mention to plastic products such as Madonna,Lady Gaga and others. Finnally somebody sings true music from the heart..with MELODY, something forgoten many years ago. Karen Carpenter will always be my favourite female singer but though Rummer is reminiscent she sings like RUMMER
Cilla did the best take after the third take, I believe, but burt insisted on nearly 20 takes! MAKE UP YOUR MIND MAN! LOL Welcome back Rumer, your album is on my Christmas list! Beautiful version, both singer and arrangement! Well done musicians and producers, just lovely!
The reason Burt Bacharach insisted on so many takes with Cilla is because SHE CAN'T BLOODY SING! Never could - she just swept in on the Beatles wave along with a few other untalented Scousers like Jimmy Tarbuck. Burt was lumbered with her - but he was never a fan and always chose Dionne Warwick over her. Wise man - Cilla was bloody tone deaf! Rumer's version knocks hers into a top hat! Beautiful.
One of, if not the finest rendition. Rumer has the soul.
Finest
Love you aunt Sarah it’s jack! Was showing my friends your music and we all love it I would love it!!
Watching her is like watching a bird fly or a fish swim. She's doing what she was created to do! Simply amazing!
I hope Karen doesn't haunt you for the remainder of you life.
Here we are in this journey that never ends (2022)... thank you Burt and David for this song. Amazing version. Regards from Brazil.
I am in love with this woman's voice. So pure, clean. No screeching like some of today's female vocalists. Karen Carpenter, Maureen McGovern, Dusty Springfield...reminiscent of them but yet all her own.
Bravo...there are only a handful of people who can actually sing Bacharach well....she's one of them. This works so well on so many levels.
She hit every note spot on! She didn't slide into any note. Her voice is crystalline. Everybody says she sounds like Karen Carpenter. Karen was an alto. Rumer is a soprano.
beautiful. she has the voice of an angel.
Certainly!
Not quite like Karen Carpenter...
Wow she puts her soul in clean and very smooth voice very nice rumer❤️👍❤️👍❤️
the best "Alfie" version for me...
Ernz Cataluna totally agree. Also think the same about her version of A House is not a Home.
I also like Susanna Hoffs version
Well her version was Austin. From Austin Powers.
Cher sang the Original Version & it’s actually SO AMAZING
Marvelous rendition of this beautiful song love it sooo much!!!
This soft and silky voice accompany with me for years, no matter when I am working, traveling or in a bad mood, this voice always melt my heart. More songs I hear, more astonishing feeling I have. Rumer she sings from heart, and soul.
i send yo tanaka before. voice is good. now!! make AIR in yo lungs. yo sing restricted. LundX
WOW!!!

Happy Birthday on June the 3rd. I have been watching your videos of Burt Bacharach/Hal David Songs every day since I found you on RUclips.
She's new to me...and I must say her voice and singing style are fabulous. I don't think I've heard a better version of this song, and I've listened to a good few cos I try to sing it myself and I'm a tenor!( Octave down of course)
Heavenly voice , and a lovely interpretation certainly.
Her voice clarity is just unbelievable...
Definitely the best version of Alfie , IMO...
Take the cotton out of your ears.

Dreamy
You are so correct . Today singers just scream, yell and belt. No artists anymore . But Rumer is awesome
Thank God for Rumer!
Stunningly beautiful!
This is a beautiful performance of this song. Rumer has an outstanding voice.
Bellissimo pezzo, molto raffinato. Grazie Maestri Bacharach e David 🙏

My whole heart says thank you for singing to us Rumer. Thanks especially for the songs you sing.
An angel.
I never heard of her,but this is just beautiful perfection. Apparently, she will have an album out in October of Bacharach/David songs.

Rumer is a Heaven's gift
I'm so in awe I could cry! The quality of her voice is off the charts.
Karen Carpenter must be twisting and turning in her grave just about now.
Wow! Her voice is just lovely!
Perfect. Beautiful.

Love her beautiful voice......

Sweet shamoo, her tonal resemblance to Karen Carpenter is hauntingly beautiful. A stunning work.
i think she's on this bacharach swing... and i can't stop feeling her presence in the words. Someone will write her a hit ,and i think it'll be Daryl H.
thank you, this song make me feel like back to chill.. love you

Delectable! Smooth and sophorific in the nicest possible way - mmm, definitely a smooch with my man song arranged and sung this way.
