Now we’re well out of the season I think I want to talk about why *this* is my favourite scene: - Laura is important enough to Sweeney that he’ll use something he’s guarded well and feared for most of his life, Gaiman has said before that the hoard is more than just Sweeney’s backstage but a constant reminder of the battles he hasn’t won as he hides things (his enemies) in there and tries to hold some semblance of a history he forgets (forgetting is more apt) in there. To take Laura into a place he fears and ensure her safety from the fucked-up-ness is really endearing. - The hoard conceptually and visually is stunning, a really interesting interpretation of what lies at the end of the rainbow. I love the idea that this place is on the surface of not the literal sun but the trans-indental (the mind space gods are born and humans dream etc) look-a-like, no one thinks they’re standing on a ball of fire, this is what they think it looks like- with trees. - Sweeney’s comment about saving someone at the beginning is also incredibly sweet, gives both series watchers and book readers a good melding of the two characters as well a signpost in the story. Sweeney is amicable enough to want to save Shadow, do some good and try sway someone from falling down the wrong path in his eyes (Following Wednesday’s plan to kill the New Gods) and at this point is reaching the near height of his arc, he’s believing that he has a purpose again, he is building his own power and isn’t “some washed up drunk from Ireland” (might be slightly incorrect book quote). This all culminates when he decided to save Laura’s from Limbo in S3, his journey full circle as he’s redeemed himself by then; Shadow is living his own life, absolutely hating Wednesday and Laura is a free woman, full of life and knows how much he cared for her- the two people’s lives he knew he’d ruined doing Wednesday’s work he’s saved. - This scene is really cool too, the fact the road simply stops, reaches a field, in the direction they need to travel is a nice bit of visual storytelling. No longer do the systems and infrastructure of the modern (New God) America work for them, it’s why Wednesday all ways stick to back paths in the books, but they are still bordered by the domains of Old gods who can use the nature around them (Much like America bing a land of majority New God followers, theirs still Old God ones in the corners and just off to the side). Sweeney steps from the road into the field and the music swells with fey like whistles and bells as the wind blows and they go into the hoard (another place that is seemingly natural filled with metaphysical trees).
Wow I hear from Reddit about how you can see Laura x Sweeney for a split second in this scene and found it! 1:19 slow down to slowest speed and pause after like 2 beats. It’s a split second shot where you see Laura on the left same height as Sweeney. Different from the horde screaming and all that
@@michaelcarrasquillo4781 omg totally missed it, they've been shipping them for us unconsciously XD there's also a cut frame there where Sweeney is seen naked from the back and Laura hugs him 😍
He keeps A LOT of things in there, accumulated over centuries...including 12foot angry Monsters (pooka) and other magical creatures, probably put in there to guard the horde.
Do you know the story of the dragon's den? Where a dragon keeps a large stash of gold in a cave and anyone dumb enough to go there has to fight the dragon? The Horde is basically that but instead of dragons it has other types of monsters from Irish folklore. The Horde is a location where the magic coins Sweeney has are from.
There’s no horde in the book. Most of Mad Sweeney’s lore in the show is actually made up just for the show, which is unfortunate because the show is cancelled and his character dies in both the show and the book. His lore is fascinating though, honestly one of my favorite characters and interpretations of Irish mythology. American Gods is awesome!

Why they didn't give him any super strength is dumb.. How are they Gods and they can't even fight? lol
He does it’s that she has his coin like in the old leprechaun movies his lucky coin is his source of power the longer he is without it the weaker he is
In a way, Shadow learns vicariously through Mad Sweeney. Like the lady with the telescope was telling him, he needed to stop being so nonchalant about his life and actually cherish it.
I hated that they killed off Sweeney. he was one of the best character in the show.
@lucifer the Great evil beast morningstar the did make a cute couple.
He died in the book too
@@yeno9765 they said they weren’t going off the book completely
@@yeno9765 He died very unceremoniously in the books too.
Showrunners screwed Pablo over unfortunately
I fucking miss them omg.

Sweeney and her are a perfect match.
Wish they didn’t destroy season 3 - there could have been so much more - showrunners destroy actors snd fans dreams
Yeah I was just upset they cancelled the show before they even released the last season . So stupid
Hoard: a big pile of treasure (this)
Horde: a whole bunch of people (not this)

you can even see them having a "great time"
So why is his horde so scary?

its all the monsters of his past, all the things he forgot and does not want to think about
They should have kept him on , I’m also posted they cancelled the show before the last season
My question is what the fuck was in the Horde which was so fucked up?
That is a good question that I would like the answer to!
It's a pocket universe kinda like a place all the bad spirits go to
What exactly is so messed up about the horde what's in there exactly has anyone read the books does it explain the horde and what's in it?!

@MagnumCarta That I already knew but what exactly makes it so messed up they make it seem like it's out of the movie the thing or something in hell
Its the Master Chief

What about the horde tho, do I need to read the cannon lore?
