I’ve seen all the versions and the 2020 one is definitely my favourite. I loved the actress who played Emma and Mr Knightley was just perfect in this version. They made it so much more real life thAn the others. Mr Knightley is so ruggedly handsome in this version, fits him perfectly
To me it's kind of a tie between this one and the 2009 adaptation, because I really like them both but for different reasons. The 2009 one is the best adaptation when it comes to story-telling and closeness to the events of the book and accuracy of the characters. This one has some flaws in terms of adapting the story in the final stages (I think they could've handled the whole Jane Fairfax/Frank Churchill affair better, particularly at the end, and a couple of other things that happen towards the end of the book that were hardly included) but I appreciate the aesthetic, the OST, and after watching I completely erased all the doubts I had regarding the casting, of Mr. Knightley in particular. Also, despite the not perfect adaptation in the second half of the film, on the whole I still enjoyed the way they chose to tell the story a lot, and didn't really make me regret much the parts that were omitted or changed, I actually found some parts were adapted really well. And as you said and someone else pointed out in the comments, another thing that stayed with me is how the characters and their lives feel "real" despite the quirkiness of setting and tone. Both the endings make me a bit teary-eyed, but that's me being over-emotional. LOL
They made it more of a modern take, feels like a bunch of memes. Personally, I like the one from the 90s, though I can't stand Gwyneth Paltrow. I felt it more true to the tone of the novel while bringing a little more modern speech and mannerisms w/o being heavy handed.
It is indeed more of a modern telling but saying it looks like a bunch of memes is a bit harsh in my opinion. It's certainly quirky and it's not perfect, no doubt about that, but I don't know why when I saw it it felt like a breath of fresh air and even after watching it like 5 times, it still remained thoroughly enjoyable to me. I enjoyed all the adaptations I've seen, included the one with Gwyneth Paltrow but for some reason this new version, imperfect and quirky and all, left me with something that that version or the one with Kate Beckinsale didn't, at least of the movies. The 2009 miniseries I kinda consider of another category because they had all the time in the world to do things as they should have, and it remains superior in my opinion.
I have watched this film over 5 times and I can’t get over the love I have for Mr. Knightley. His wit and humor, especially in regards to Emma, literally the love of my life. I’d give it all up for Mr. Knightley 100%
Yeah, between working on my Emma videos and just plainly rewatching the film, I think I must've rewatched it at least 5 or 6 times, not to mention I have kinda become obsessed with the OST. When I first watched the trailer I wasn't sure Johnny Flynn had been the right choice for Knightley, but boy, was I wrong. I think he's become my favourite version of Mr. Knightley. In case you're interested, I've made an Emma x Knightley video that is more from his POV, here's the link: ruclips.net/video/gmpD4N6yeBE/видео.html
I guess it's just a matter of tastes, as it always is. There's a lot of people here in the comments who find him hot. I don't find him hot but I find some details of his facial expressions attractive; personally I find Johnny Lee Miller (Knightley in Emma 2009) not at all attractive in any way, shape or form but there are probably people out there who would kill me for saying that. LOL As the latins used to say "De gustibus non disputandum est." 😁
I relate to this story the most because I was an Emma type who used to be snooty and a know-it-all who makes A LOT of mistakes. She is definitely lucky to have someone who is critical with her actions yet loves her all the same.

Beatriz Me too! I watched like 3 times. I don’t usually watch period movies but it looks so funny and light and it’s just simply amazing. It quickly became one of my favorite movies.
Being a Jane Austen and period drama fan, it makes me very happy that more people like you have got closer to the genre thanks to this movie! I think one of the things that appealed to a lot of people is, as you've said, the way it's funny and light, which is a road that period dramas not often choose. Emma is probably the lightest of Jane Austen's stories in terms of tone and events taking place, so I think they did the right choice there.
He's adorable! I didn't think I could love a character as much as I love Mr. Rochester, but he took my heart! He is a splendid Mr. Knightley, very human.
I agree, I honestly wasn't sure he was a good choice for the part when I first saw the trailer, but after seeing the film I think he might've actually become my favourite version of Mr. Knightley.
So I watched this adaptation a couple days ago, and this was my introduction to Jane Austen's Emma. I can't believe how much I loved this. As much as I love Elizabeth Bennet or Anne Elliot, I think Emma is the most complex character and one I can relate to the most in some ways. Also I can't believe I'm saying this but I love Knightley more than Mr. Darcy?! Knightley is compassionate and mature, and he seems to know his mind well. He's not classically handsome but there is a unique charm and unconventional handsomeness about him that is just so freaking attractive 😍😍 and I can't get over his smile 😭
I love that he does that! Even the moment he tries to take her hand at the beginning of the scene, he takes the initiative of touching it but waits for her to be okay with it before fully holding it, same thing when they're at the altar at the end.
Ohhhhh you really nailed with the last scene, omg that expression, its like "oh swettie what a little kiss, cmon here let me show you"... aaaaaaw love this adaptation 🥰🥰🥰🥰💜😍😍
@@chiaratippy Whichever you choose to do, I'm sure it will turn out just as hilarious as the rest of them. I just happened to watch this adaptation of Emma last night and I am currently obsessed with Knightley :P

his performance was so good! all the little nuances just makes us fall in love w his character more hhhh acc to letterboxd i've watched this six times already 💀
I agree, he did a great job and yes!, what made me love him so much is actually all those little details and facial expressions and really, all the little things that made up for the lack of some of the book material, like those little smiles right there, I really love those, they are such a small thing but they actually can tell you a lot about his character, if you care to pay attention. I've watched like 6 or 7 times myself, so don't worry, you're not alone. LOL
That dimple at 0:17! 😍 I love that the actors are basically the same age the characters are, but without Knightley feeling overly old. He just feels more youthful than in other adaptations. Although maybe I'm just projecting because I'm the same age as him, haha.
For me it's the little things that show me if the guy is truly, authentically kind, especially after managing getting over a narcissist (in the clinical sense of the term). There are a lot of videos that can help a guy fake a personality, but there are always details, little cracks that break the facade. There is something about this version of Mr. Knightley that makes me like it the most.
So many hilarious details!!! Like every single hand-touch missed, between Emma and Mr. Knightley, they're just looking constantly like little kids discovering how to love and it's absolutely adorable. Also those eye contacts at the end of the movie made me burst laughing, well actually, the whole movie is freaking hilarious. Wonderful discovery, i must leave my heart from Mr. Bingley to Mr. Knightley and his handsome naked-back 😂 Thanks for doing this video!
Thank *you* for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it! And yes, this movie might not be the closest to the book, particularly story-wise, but I love it! And this version of Knightley has kinda stolen my heart, to be honest!

He kissed her only after she kissed him first. He's a gentleman (? ❤
I love that he does that! Even the moment he tries to take her hand at the beginning of the scene, he takes the initiative of touching it but waits for her to be okay with it before fully holding it, same thing when they're at the altar at the end.
@@chiaratippy Oh yes. He treats her with such delicacy and respect. He's so gentle with her.
He's a man of true gentility... 🤣🤣🤣
Omg i never thought of those scenes that way. I love him even more now
Well I think he’s gorgeous!! I can’t be the only one??
their relationship is just too cute I cant get over it
excuse me but I am still in love with his dirty blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes
I already loved Mr. Knightley from reading the novel but this movie just made that love stronger
Ohhhhh you really nailed with the last scene, omg that expression, its like "oh swettie what a little kiss, cmon here let me show you"... aaaaaaw love this adaptation 🥰🥰🥰🥰💜😍😍
I LOVE that little smile so much! ❤️
As soon as Emma is holding a baby and cooing at her Mr. Knightley can’t even stop himself from sitting by her
I'm guilty here I have seen this movies 282726226 times already. New favorite feel-good movie tbh
Not blaming you at all, I understand the obsession completely!
“they’re all A S L E E P” makes me laugh so hard😭
I need someone to make a video called "Mr Knightley yearning for 5 minutes straight"
He is such an amaizing singer as well
He is! I already knew him from Lovesick but I actually only found out he sings and plays thanks to this film!
A man of many talents 😍❤️
I’m in love with this Mr. Knightley 😍
The hand caressing her neck at the end is dreamy ^//.//^
The day you make a video of Mr. Knightley's inner thoughts (like the ones you did with Mr. Darcy) will be a truly glorious day :D
I've been thinking about it but I don't know if I want to use just one version or a mix of (almost) all of them.
@@chiaratippy Whichever you choose to do, I'm sure it will turn out just as hilarious as the rest of them. I just happened to watch this adaptation of Emma last night and I am currently obsessed with Knightley :P
I don't care, I prefer Mr Knightley over Mr Darcy!
I still can't decide 😂
@@yuki_eerhs4591I think they both work for they’re respective love interests
I love his expressions, he is so priceless. But I still think his brother stole his scenes I absolutely love his quotes :D. But best brother duo indeed.
a dashing Mr Knightley. He has my heart.
His VOICE
The idea of a hypochondriac in 1812 is HILARIOUS
Hi everyone, thank you all so much for watching this video, I'm really grateful for it! I would really appreciate it if you'd give a look at my Emma x Knightley video as well and let me know what you think, you can find a thumbnail that will lead you to the video by clicking on it at the very end of this video or you can just click on this link: ruclips.net/video/gmpD4N6yeBE/видео.html
Thank you so much again for your time and support! ❤️
The nosebleed though, I remember laughing so hard at that scene, it's always funny no matter how many times I watch it.
Well done indeed
heheheh Thank you! ❤
his performance was so good! all the little nuances just makes us fall in love w his character more hhhh
acc to letterboxd i've watched this six times already 💀
I agree, he did a great job and yes!, what made me love him so much is actually all those little details and facial expressions and really, all the little things that made up for the lack of some of the book material, like those little smiles right there, I really love those, they are such a small thing but they actually can tell you a lot about his character, if you care to pay attention.
I've watched like 6 or 7 times myself, so don't worry, you're not alone. LOL
That dimple at 0:17! 😍
I love that the actors are basically the same age the characters are, but without Knightley feeling overly old. He just feels more youthful than in other adaptations. Although maybe I'm just projecting because I'm the same age as him, haha.
He's definitely youthful...almost has a boyish appeal...in a very good way though
for the first time i dont cringe for the kiss scene,it's just simple yet sweet
@@chiaratippy I think the messy hair and messy beard Johnny Flynn stole the heart of many people in only few weeks haha! Don't hesitate doing more videos, you're really funny!
John Knightley is so funny I can't
I've been watching this movie every night for the last 3 nights since I stumbled on it in RUclips, but I still can't get enough of it. Hands down the funniest romcom I've seen in decades now. 😂
When this lockdown ends, I swear i will watch it in the cinema too.
I enjoyed every moment of this movie in theaters and this makes me want to watch it again, I had such a crush on Mr. Knightley and his crinkly smile 🥰
Lmao I love the part where she hands him the handkerchief back and he hesitantly reaches for her and she mechanically walks away like a robot cause the whole situation became immediately awkward lmfao
0:29 how did I not notice that small smile?!? SO FREAKING CUTE!
Lucy Briers, who plays the woman in the first part, Mrs. Reynolds, is also Mary Bennett in 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Just a fun tidbit.
Oh my god i haven't had a TV crush in years and i don't know what to do with myself !!
Mr.Knightley is damn near perfect! I cannot!
That is the silliest proposal scene that i have ever seen before in a movie! I guess that makes it fit in with the Emma story.
His smiles are the best!
This Version was SOooooooo GOOOODDD! AND MR KNIGHTLEY WAS A DREAM COME TRUE 😍
I love this version of Mr. Knightley. I really love the movie!
Super cute love story. Mr. Knightly mesmerizing played by Johnny.
So into the character.
Wishing him much success.
My favourite Mr. Knightley.
i love how almost every jane austen girl is yelling after a propose
Perfect Knightley and perfect kiss
It's insane how many times I've seen this video and the movie itself. I'm madly in love with Mr. Knightley 🥰🥰
Johnny Flynn is so hot.
A housekeeper would NEVER presume to scold her master, not in those days. But that aside, what fun!
1 with whom he grew up with and has known him as a child might. A few relationships weren't always formal between servant and masters but I do see why you might say that.
Not fighting just saying
it's in the text
Mr Knightley is the man we all want. A charmer and funny.
This video is the reason I watched the movie... I owe you a lot ❤️
I love this version of Emma ❤
This movie is like a delicious, crunchy French macaron 😊
After Jeremy Northam's portrayal of Mr. Knightley I never thought I'll enjoy this version so much!
Thank you for the charming video, CTippy!
Thank you very much for watching! 😊
After talking to my boyfriend about this film endlessly and explaining how much I felt he resembles Mr knightly. he finally got me the book and I've been reading a chapter before bed every single day.
someone tell netflix that this is how you make a modern and good adaptation of a jane austen work?! still pissed off with persuasion
I just read they are working on adaptations similar to that Persuasion travesty for Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility! I mean, are they serious???
@@chiaratippy oh god..
Woah WOAH WOAAHHH woahh.... I just realized that the actress that played Mrs. Reynolds also played as Mary Bennet in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice
My favourite singer and one of my favourite movies, P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N
The nosebleed was an awesome idea!
I swear, this movie kills me every time
That adlib after the accidental nosebleed was such a cherry on top
Emma is not okay X'D
*baby pukes*
"Is there fever?!" (Mom)
Dad: "as death follows life."
The dad is done with life 😂

I love this movie too much.
Im sooo sorry but i never could laugh so hard and often in a Jane austen movie like i did in this 2020 adaptation of Emma😂😂😂 it was lovely to watch and sooo funny😅😅😅❤️❤️❤️
2:23 'i can not! harriett!'

Me: ...I must follow my wife.
I am SO IN LOVE WITH HIM IT"S NOT OKAY LOL
THAT KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG!!!!!!!!!!))))))
1:16 why is John such a mood tho 😂
i wanna tell you that i was always impressed by expensive looking chateaus in classical movies and everything but your edits were the tipping point for me to buy 5 jane austen books lol
& thanks, i’m having fun reading them
I'd risk it all for Mr Knightley
I absolutely adore this movie... 💜💜💜💜😍
Me, too!
That scene with the nosebleed AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 OMG I'M ROLLING
