Love the riff, love the song, love the cover. Exactly how Jimmy played it live. With the lp version, I once read that one of the studio sound guys lost the beginning of the track (erased/wrote over/whatever) during production of LZIII. It was so late i the process that the band (or likely Jimmy) decided to do the thing where 'Friends' kind of bleeds into 'Celebration Day'. I always wonder what that lost intro would have sounded like. I also love the 'fix'.
The other notable thing about this song is that it's Jonesy playing that main riff you hear in the intro. He did it with a slide on a lap guitar. Jimmy had to come up with a more straightforward guitar arrangement to use onstage.
Get the Led put. I always enjoy your guitar insights. You do a great job. I'm probably much older than you , but I took guitar back up a couple of years ago, after playing professionally back in like 79-82, been away for a great while, had other careers, etc.,,but I can relearn these songs instantaneously through you, and that's so great. We tried our best back in the day to pull it all off the vinyl,,painful process. Oh, and Superhype music publishing put the Led Zeppelin Complete music book, that covered up to the Houses of the Holy period. So thanks
The only cover/lesson on RUclips that show me how to play this tune correctly, I tried various ways to play this and only your video heped me! Thank you!
Your the man! Wish I had found this channel long ago. All summer I’ve been relearning these great songs and I love your teaching technique. For those of us who are solid players already it’s so cool to have it broken down in parts. Page is my hero🎸🎸🎸🎸and you’ve done such a great job presenting his unique blistering style debunked if u know what I mean. Thank you,
Hey JJ, You've spent a lot of time playing and studying this music over the years, you're right in the pocket. thank you for sharing your passion. cheers
Hey James What amplifier did you use when you play your Zepp. Covers? i'm curious about that, you've always nailed the tone!. Congrats and go ahead with your channel.!!
I hear ya, I once was a young guy in a couple bands some years ago to but I still go out sometimes to jam and now working on starting a new part-time band here locally. I'm not trying to prove anything just like playing for/with people. And I do get a lot out of your videos to!
You are the best most dedicated Led Zep fan on the interweb. Are you in a Zep cover band and when are you coming to the UK.You can stay at my place I will line a few gigs up for you.
@@jamesjames9275 Not Surprised You're In Demand......I Practice In The Dark Standing...Does Standing Compromise Your Playing.....I'd Like To See Standing....That Would Convince Me Even More..Thanks For Reply.
Your performances are electrifying!! If I may ask, do you have any tips on how to pull off (pun intended) the G, E (2x), F#, E (2x) sequence in the main riff sequence? It always gets me hung up whenever I play this song.
@@jamesjames9275What I meant was, how long does it take you to pick up that version by ear? Your chording and leads sounded pretty spot on, or at least your timing was nearly perfect. Just gauging for myself because it would have taken me many hours to learn that piece with the chords and the lead lines. My problem is I get too antsy and rarely finish learning a piece by ear because I ultimately get burned out and move on because I'm not patient enough to spend that much time on it.
We are lucky because you like Jimmy Page a lot. Go ahead with all his catalogue. An Thank you.
A little showing off is acceptable when you can play this well. This one really got the Led out. Fabulous!
I want a James James Sistine chapel t-shirt. Like, an LP reach down from the sky to touch the fingers of a faceless man wearing a hockey jersey.
led Zeppelin é a banda mais gostosa de se tocar na guitarra, pois o som do Jimmy Page é alegre, divertido de fazer. Simplesmente gênio! bom dms
Dude that tone is crushing!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

A someone who had the great pleasure and the dumb luck to see Led Zeppelin four times in 71,72,73,75 I’d say we’ re on to something here.
That's fuckin awesome man. Thats like the best song to have on your setlist. It always rocks the joint!
That was brilliant
Love Page. He, Townshend, and Jimi are my biggest influences.

Thank God you have decent distortion; Page's tone (on the studio version) sounds anaemic.

MSG version ? Imo the best version of intro this song was played at 1971-08-31 in Orlando :)
I'm partial to the 73 versions.
Smokin' cover
Can you master so many songs because you have deep knowledge of music theory or just great ears and a ton of experience?
I don't have any knowledge at all of music theory. And I master very few of the songs I post!
Always love your playin JJ. Question for ya, have you got any tattoos? Seems to me you'd even do that cool :-) Cheers
No tattoos.
BADD ASS!!!
This live version is so far superior to the studio version!
FattyCorpusle Absolutely.
Gonna be hard to wind down after that one JJ.
I'm curious . Why do they use a Bflat power chord in the key of A ??
When you go into the C to G section of the bridge, it's logical to then drop it down to Bb to F for the second part.
Uh...WOW
How long does it take you to learn that song, note for note like that? Just curious.
Oh, I don't know this one note-for-note. I actually don't know many songs note-for-note.

The Led is out and it's called JJ.
Now you're just showing off ;)~
What do you mean, now? :)
